What has happened to Michaels? This place used to be one of our favorite restaurants. Last night, the salad was wilted and tasteless, the chicken picatta dry (some of the toughest I have ever tasted), and when my husband's surf and turf arrived, it was the wrong order. Once his dinner came, he noticed his filet had been butterflied. One half was cooked perfectly (medium rare), but the other half was way past medium rare (well done). My husband did say however that the portion of the steak cooked correctly was excellent, and the shrimp was delicious. The carrot cake we shared for dessert was very tasty but had the consistency of pudding more than cake (very strange). When the manager asked about our dinners, we shared our disappointment in the meal. His response, "thanks for telling me."
We definitely won't be back anytime soon. Something has changed!
Meal sent back - sautéed fish way over cooked - served with cold rice . Waited over 40 minutes for a record of fish only to have it over cooked as well- lax attitude from manager who said “ it was a busy night”. Pathetic.
We met people the night before who had eaten at Michael's and recommended it so we gave it a try. Having two options on the menu for a small plate or a full size portion was the biggest draw for me. Generally portions are too big for me, never leaving any room for dessert. I got the small filet that came with mashed potatoes, kale and spinach. Happily, I had room for the rum cake for dessert!
Have been meaning to try Michael's for years and finally did it with my brother and S-I-L who were visiting. What a great restaurant. Cozy and great ambiance in a beautiful neighborhood. The ladies loved that you could get 1/2 portion of several of the entree selections. Service was fantastic and it was much appreciated that we were not rushed and allowed to linger. The only drawback we saw that could catch a visitor from out of town (and did not affect us because we knew better and walked) is that parking anywhere nearby is a challenge. But even if you have to walk from across town, it's worth it!
Got there and didn’t know about open table reservation. Sat us down anyways. To sum it up, you used to get a lot more food and higher end. Portions way down and prices same. (Had French onion soup and their signature meat). Aps came out all together rather than spread out. Huge wait between aps and main.
This was a recommendation from a friend. The service was horrible and the food was not that great. The flavors were very bland and the presentations were sloppy. For the price they were charging I would have expected more. The seats were extremely uncomfortable.
Excellent Service, Food was Great
Although we were dated inside, the ambiance was great. Lucky for us, it rained! Food was great, love the small portion choices. My martini was the best!
Excellent all around. Waiter was especially good. Lite portions just right for a late night dinner.
Excellent as always!
Wonderful food. Liked smaller plate option. Lava cake delicious. Moses provided personalized service. Will return.
This place is very expensive, so I would expect spectacular food. The food was "good" -- but short on veggies, and long on meat and sauces. I'm glad we tried it once, but on future visits to KW, will probably not return.
Atmosphere is excellent... service was ok but not great, food was not much to write about this time and was relatively forgettable.. except for the chocolate volcano cake for dessert. Sides all the same and boring. 6th time at this restaurant and just wonder if it was an off day as the previous 5 is why we went back...
Excellent, one of the best restaurants in the Keys.
Food was awesome. Loved the fish. They offer a lite version which is approx. 1/2 of the normal portion which was perfect.
Awesome as ever. Our favourite place for dinner in KW
Michaels is always perfect in every way. Food is excellent, staff is knowledgeable and polite, as well as attentive. I am a chef at Louies Backyard in Key West and Michaels is my "go to" place for a quiet dinner. Bravo!!
Nancy was our server and she was fabulous! The food was delicious!
The server was totally non engaging and could have cared less if we were there. How do you own a Resturant on a Caribbean island and serve tough frozen food in one of your specialities?
I had the snapper dish and found the fish to be quite stong tasting as if it was not fresh. I also did not care for the execution of the artichoke/roasted red peppers that the fish was prepared with. It was quite bitter. My partner had a steak which was excellent. I would probably not return here.
Amazing atmosphere and food.
Experince wasn’t nearly as good as last time. Food was ok, not great. Service was also just so-so. Honestly, we the least favorite dining experience of the week.
Over all good. Very proud of their drink prices......ouch!
Service was excellent, food outstanding (and cooked to order) Friendly and helpful, willing to answer questions about the menu. Accommodating for special dietary needs
Sunday February 25th, 2018..... Ruined 30th Wedding Anniversary dinner with friends.
This was the worst dinner experience in all my days of travel for over 25 years.
First of all, this should never happen in a 4 1/2 Star restaraunt in business for years. We have wanted to come here for 2 years on our yearly trip to Key West.
The first sign of trouble was that it took 15 minutes before someone asked us if we would like a drink.
Right away the 4 of us could tell the staff was stressed.
Then it all started. The table by us sent a steak back because it was well done that was ordered medium. Surprising for a steak restaraunt to over cook a steak. Then they forgot to bring them another one. Our service was really slow, but kept trying to encourage our waitress she was doing a good job.
Another table near us ordered a filet, and they gave her a strip steak. They kept saying ridiculous it was, and upset also, so assumed they had waited a long time.
It was 2 hours and we still did not get our food, so we called it quits ! We felt bad, but told the waitress we were leaving, it was 10:00 PM, asked for the manager.
He said he would remove the food from our bill, so I had assumed he meant the couple apps and a salad we had.
But he meant the food we didn’t get yet. I said at a minimum he should take the apps and salad off, which he finally agreed to do. We still tipped the waitress 20% as didn’t feel It was not her fault. The manager never came to our table in 2 hours to apologize, which was unacceptable.
So for our 30th wedding anniversary with our friends, we didn’t have our nice or fancy dinner that we planned to have, in order to celebrate our special day.
On the bright side, we ended up having a great pizza from “OnlyWood” in Key West.
Liked the idea of a choice of size of the entrees. I like smaller portions.
Bad experience at Michael's. Steak was over cooked, server messed up the order several times and comped my dinner. But the server gave up on us. Will not be back any time soon, you go to a steak house you expect it to be cooked the way you order it!? Dissapointed.
We were seated inside, along a highly traveled path. Not much for ambiance. Outside seating is much preferred.
The food was good, as always and our server recommended a delicious bottle of wine. The creme brûlée was amazing
French onion soup and beet salad were very tasty. The snapper was exceptional and the bread was delicious. Enjoyed the option of lite portions. Service was very attentive (Mary). Inside was very chilly, and our server turned off the fan as soon as we requested it. The patio was much quieter than the inside seating. A new gem uncovered!
Everything we ate was delicious from the crab wontons, artichoke dip, to the steaks. Our friend wasn’t impressed with his veal chop.
Meat loaf was very good, however my wife had the chicken piccata, chicken was dry and meal was missing piccata sauce, not good for an up scale restaurant
Would not go back anytime soon
We had a wonderful birthday dinner. There were 8 of us and we got a small room off the bar area. Food and drinks were great. Service excellent. Our new favorite spot it Key West!
Very average food at exorbitant prices. Seafood selections minimal, which is unusual for a coastal town. You can do better.
Must have seating outside. Indoor dining is very sterile with no ambiance whatsoever
We have vacationed in Key West for eight years and Michael's has always been on our dinner list. We have had fantastic meals there and many times they were the top contender for "best meal" in Key West. Not this time, something drastically changed. Our meal was average, if that. First, the dinner selection from the menu was poor, in mg opinion. No crab cakes, no scallops, nothing that remotely "wowed" me. I had a veal chop the night before at a different restaurant so by default choice, I went with the filet. Here is my "beef" with our experience, we started with the arugula salad and were given a very SMALL portion. Very tasty, but just a few greens and a few beetsb with a tiny amount of goat cheese. I try to stay away from bread, but I had to because of hunger. The first round of bread was not fresh and appeared re-heated. Second round was hit and fresh. Entree- unknown to me there was a 4oz. filet and 8 oz filet on the menu, but our waitress never asked which size we wanted. We were automatically both given the 4 oz size. My dinner was served on a salad plate. SMALL portion of potatoes, just a few leaves of kale and spinach, and the small sized portion of filet. All tasty but "zero" "wow" for me. We can get the same thing back home in our home town, only better. Lastly my two glasses of wine cost more than my entire meal. That is just crazy and is what drove me to write such a poor review. I left the restaurant VERY hungry! The last two nights we dined out, the meals were so fantastic, this just made Michael's even more disappointing. When I vacation and I am spending the money, I expect the best. This experience was so average it left me "deflated" and partially angry that Michael's was once so good with innovative entrees and good sized portions to this. Sorry, not sure what happened or why you changed things so drastically but you lost my business.
Staff was extremely attentive. Ordered a large “Our Salad” for the table; it was delicious and plentiful. My husband and I then split the meatloaf which was delicious and serving portion was enough for the both of us. Service was great and they were very accommodating as we were dining with our 8 month old child. The ambience was beautiful.
A perfect dinner. We were initially seated inside, but it was an ideal evening for patio dining, and upon request we were seated outside. Ryan was our server, and he proved quite capable. A little understated but knowledgeable, attentive and helpful. The tuna nachos starter sounded different and they were; quite spicy but a taste sensation. Ryan recommended the yellow snapper with artichokes and his recommendation was spot on. A little on the pricey side, but definitely worth it for a very nice dinner.
We went for my husband's birthday and they brought out a beautiful dessert with a giant rocket sparkler on it without me even asking. Good food and good service too.
