Michaels Restaurant Ratings and Reviews
We were on vacation and had the opportunity to try various places in Key West and after looking at others we chose Michael's based on the web site and location. After our dining experience we decided we absolutely made the right decision! We will definitely return there when we are back in KW. The food and service were very good and the ambiance was very pleasant as well. Great selection!
We’ve been to Michaels many times over the years and a dinner there is always a wonderful experience. This time we took some old friends (from a town noted for excellent restaurants) and they were impressed. The new menu combines both reliable standards with some exciting new choices and provides a smaller portion option for most things which means both big eaters and light eaters can enjoy a meal at Michaels!
Friends told us about Michaels and that they had small plates for a more reasonably priced dining experience. It's important to have a reservation and the restaurant was good about changing ours by a half hour even though OpenTable showed no availability for half an hour later. We saw two sets of diners turned away (and two accepted who hadn't booked in advanced, so you can TRY). The portions are small but the Mahi w/ Bananas was a creative and delicious offering and my husband LOVED his shrimp w/ sundried tomatoes over noodles.
Wine by the glass is expensive and my husband was dismayed that the waitress walked off with his last sip of the Chardonnay he hadn't yet finished. The service was okay; friendly enough, but a bit slow on both drinks and food.
Great New year dinner
Great dinner and Very good service.
Its a meet restaurant so this is what they recomended. You get a good piece of meet with potatoes and broccoli. Nothing fancy but it was really good. For dessert our chooice was key lime pie. The wine recommendation was also very good. Nice atmosphere and setting
We were there for an early New Year’s Eve dinner. There was a prix fixe menu which looked like interesting choices, too bad the food didn’t deliver. The appetizers weren’t bad, but the entrees were awful. I had the twin filets with grilled shrimp; my husband had a lobster pasta. The pasta was cold on top (clearly it had been sitting waiting for my entree). My filets came out rare (ordered medium) and we finally had to have the busboy take them back because our server was nowhere to be found. When the stakes came back, they had obviously been in the microwave because they could not have grilled them and replayed them as fast as they did. He meat was bland and tasteless.
No where did the price for the prix fixe menu appear, so I was really disappointed in the $200+ tab for a lousy dinner.
Normally do not write reviews. NYE dinner with family was sub par which was sad because reviews were very good. $75 per person for three course meal w/ iceberg lettuce salad option for App. & meatloaf for entree was disappointing. Felt like restaurant didn't spend any time to make dinner menu special and no wine/alcohol pairings. Filet & NY strip steak were way under cooked asked for medium received raw. Shrimp & lobster tail way over cooked which was unacceptable since the lobster cost an additional $17. Server left us after desert order and never saw her again, manager had to give us check. Very, very disappointed. One good thing: Was sat outside but I didn't dress appropriately for the cold weather, asked to move inside and the restaurant accommodated us almost immediately. Probably should have returned the steak, shrimp and lobster but the restaurant was so busy we felt bad doing that to the kitchen staff.
What a great little place! First time eating there and we were very pleasantly surprised! Greeted by Vinny who couldn’t have been friendlier, our server was helpful with suggestions and attentive, the food was delicious. The only downside was we sat at a table near the bar and it felt like the patrons standing at the bar were on top of us but the food well made up for it! This will become one of our regular stops!
We were in Key West from Dec 1, 2017 thru Jan 1, 2018 and of the dozens of restaurants we dined in Michael's was the best. Justin our server was outstanding, the ambience was fantastic and the food was to die for. I had the filet and my spouse had the shrimp/pasta special. Both were excellent and we could not have been more pleased. Make sure you make a reservation because the outside fills up fast!
When you first approach from the street and see the jewel of the courtyard you are pleasantly surprised. The gardens and fountains make for a nice atmosphere. The bar area was nice but many of the wine selections were not available. We were sat inside and the ambiance was poor. Overall the food was very bland. Timing could have been improved upon as there was a long wait between courses. The carpaccio was good but the plate was a little wet. Salads were not impressive and not a good value. My husband’s meal came out prior to mine and he was nearly finished before mine came. I enjoyed the snapper special but is was dry and needed more sauce. My husband said his Mahi was also dry and needed more sauce. We ordered the volcano dessert and it was so over cooked it had the consistency of chocolate cake not a melting soufflé. Also you could tell it sat in the window for some time as the ice cream was almost completely melted, but the food runner served it anyway - not a lot of pride taken for menu standards. I got the impression that the staff had checked out and was no longer worried about service. We had an 8:30 seating that had us finishing around 10pm - which should not be offered if it is too late for the staff. I recommend training and requiring a dress code (cohesive with the rest of the staff) for the hostess as she is the first contact with guests. I hope this is helpful for improvement.
We were unimpressed -- read some good reviews, but didn't live up to the hype. 20+ minutes at our table before coming by for our drink order, then another 25 minutes until our first drinks arrived. Had to send two steaks back, and we're not very picky. Maybe it was just a bad night, but when I looked at more recent reviews, the restaurant seems to be trending in the wrong direction.
Arrived well before our reservations, they accommodated us in getting a table. Had dinner with my wife and daughter. My daughter had a steak, ordered med rare, arrived med well, she didn’t complain as she said it was tender and juicy. My wife ordered carb wontons, in which she received tuna nachos. After it was
Served a large time passed by and she decided to go ahead and eat it rather than wait. She said it was OK, told the waitress when she did come back, said she was sorry and brought out the carb wontons as she ordered. They were cold, as they were probably her original ordered that has sat in the window. Ordered the chocolate lava cake for dessert (told it was made to order and would take 20 min), it was warm, but was only chocolate cake with ice cream, no molten center. We were disappointed in the overall experience and will not be back.
We received a gift card and knew we would be in Key West. Several friends told us Michael's is the place to go for food, versus view. We were seated without delay. Our service was outstanding and food was superb. We even splurged on a dessert which we infrequently do but decided to share as the Crème brûlée sounded amazing and it was. Wonderful experience, great table and impeccable service. Nice night out on the Key West town.
The restaurant had a good atmosphere but the food was a bit bland and my salmon portion for the main course special was literally one of the smallest portions I have ever seen anywhere. Cannot believe they would serve something like that especially for the price you are paying. Lots of better options in Key West....
