Michael's Little Italy
Great vibes and food! We were there for piano night and loved the ambiance.
It’s a charming little place with cute ambiance, but the main dining room can be extremely noisy. Our server, an older gentleman, was pretty abrasive. He was visibly annoyed when my friend and I said we needed more time with the menu. He was short and abrupt when we asked a few questions about the menu, already walking away while answering them. The menu is limited, which was actually nice - made picking easier. Our food arrived warm at the most though, and I suspect it was sitting in the back for awhile. We overheard the server say there was a kitchen fire to another table I did enjoy the food even on the cold side, and it would probably be better at the right temperature. I’m not sure I’ll go back given these experiences, but I think you can expect decent Italian food here.
My husband and I wanted a new spot for date night and Michaels seemed to check all the boxes based on reviews.
If the food was half as great as the service or the ambience, they’d probably never get us to leave. Sadly, the food was the only disappointing part of this dinner out.
Some of the best Ossa Buco I've ever had. Very thoughtful staff
Great food, wonderful service. Menu is rather small and not too much to choose from but overall would go back.
I chose Michael’s Little Italy as my Birthday Dinner Celebration and it was beyond wonderful! My birthday fell on a Tuesday this year so I just wanted a special place to dine at for my son and I to enjoy, and boy did we! From the crackling of the fireplace and the warmth from the fire to the lovely music, and the kind and personable staff, we were so happy! The food is always top notch, we had the Cesar salad to start with fresh homemade bread, thin the pasta carbonara and the New York Strip Steak to share. All of the food came out perfect. The flavors are so distinct and to top it off the lemon cake and chocolate moose cake were the ultimate sweet treat to seal the celebration!
I wish I could give them 10 stars. Beautiful place
Opera Night featuring Carlos Ibay was outstanding! Buffet with pasta selections including fish and poultry was excellent. Warm ambience and Coved safe environment.
Friendly service. Savory Italian meal. Awesome entertainment - piano player and opera singer named Chucky accompanied by a violinist and sultry singer.
Owners Kelsey and Michael have always been gracious hosts. Staff were friendly and attentive to guests. Food was delicious. We’ve been going to this restaurant for the past 5 years. Only stopped during the start of the pandemic. Happy it’s reopened. Keep up the good work.
It was a good experience, the music was great! Thank you.
My wife and I ate dinner here on Friday, October 29, 2021. It was our first visit but not our last. Our server Natasha was lovely. And our food (Calamari Fritti, Lasagna, Cannolis) and drinks (Cefalu Cooler) were delicious. Our dinner was before we attended a play at the nearby Little Theater of Alexandria. We'll dine here before all our future visits to the Little Theater.
We love this restaurant
Liked the old timey ambiance and corresponding music. Really liked the waiter — very pleasant. He was doubling as the bartender and he made a good cocktail (we tried a Manhattan and a martini). Sadly, the food, however, was lacking. The mussels were the worst—no mussels in the shells to speak of and fishy tasting. They should drop that from their menu or get some fresher/plumper mussels! The pizza was underwhelming.
We had a lovely meal, and the servers were super nice and accommodating to our large party. The zucchini blossoms are especially tasty.
Everything was good except the seafood pasta special, the shrimp was over cooked and very little pasta and sauce. The other people eating with me all enjoyed their meals.
Small, intimate, family run restaurant. Service was wonderful, food great…juke box was a hit!
My 9yo daughter and I went on a special mommy/daughter birthday date and had a wonderful time. She loved the piano and the overall atmosphere was very nice. I ordered an app, salad, glass of wine, and full entree. My daughter requested plain noodles and they were more than happy to oblige. The food was good but I honestly was surprised to be charged $16.00 for a plate of plain noodles with nothing but a side of Parmesan cheese. It was still a special night but seemed a bit much for noodles considering our patronage.
Amazing food and excellent service! Will definitely be back!
Great experience, service and atmosphere. Amazing food.
Food and service were excellent. We ate out on small sidewalk area. Some street noise there, but very pleasant overall.
Nice atmosphere. The food was excellent. The menu choices are slim but what they make, they obviously do it well. Most of the other patrons seemed to be regulars so it was a very friendly environment. You can hear the person across the table from you without raising your voice. This is a good place for a date.
Service was very slow at the beginning, especially since there appeared to be three wait staff plus a bar tender with two tables occupied and two people at the bar. After we ordered service picked up. Food was very good. Cocktails much less so. Old Fashion was server with soda water. So much that that was all that was tasted. Negroni was ok but light on the gin (but it could be me).
Still recommend the food, not the cocktails.
My husband is a pianist and I bought him here to surprise him! He LOVED it!!!! Both of us enjoyed the ambiance and music so much we stayed for a long time even after completing our meal. The pianist was amazing. The food was great! Will definitely visit again.
Excellent from start to finish!
Excellent food and service. Fun place
It was just ok. Food was mediocre and service was TERRIBLE
Everything was amazing! (Especially the staff!!)
Get the truffle fries you won’t regret it!
Amazing meal! The puttanesca was perfection. Everyone enjoyed the meal. A really great meal.
Great food and cocktails. Had a painoist playing who was very good, but it also made the room very loud so was challenging to have a conversation. Would definitely recommend the restaurant.
Outstanding menu that makes you want to try everything! We had three great pastas that were both classic and innovative at the same time. Be sure to try the fried artichoke! An intriguing cocktail menu that complements the menu nicely. Definitely plan to go again to try more.
The food was excellent, service very good, loved the piano player and all the songs he knew and played.
Took my wife to Michael's Little Italy for our Friday Night (Romantic) Dinner when we set aside time for just the two of us. It felt as if no one else was there, even though there appeared to be several other couples with the same idea. The atmosphere, music, wine and food was great! Cannot wait until the Pizzeria comes back on line, I hear it's fantastic as well. I've traveled the world eating one of my favorite Desserts (Tiramisu) and yet, right here at in Old Town Alexandria I found the "best I've eaten in 40 years"..... Highly recommend you try this "hidden gem".....
Such a cute restaurant with great food! Second time visiting within 3 days!
A true Italian Treat right here in Old Town Alexandria; perfectly positioned on GW Street just south of Duke Street; easy to get to, with multiple choices of seating; and an authentic "Old World" feel throughout. "Mike" The Bartender was efficient and attentive, while serving Smart Cocktails and smooth music selections. Cannot wait to go back to enjoy their Saturday Evening Piano Bar and Pizza Salon..... Job Well Done Michael & Kelsey Strutton. Alexandria Thanks you for your offering of Italian elegance in an otherwise busy world..... Can't wait to see what your "Full" Summer Menu will bring.
We absolutely LOVE Michael's Little Italy! The food and ambiance could not be better!
We had an amazing time - the ambiance especially is phenomenal, and the service was excellent. Even the chairs were extremely comfortable! The food was delicious, especially the seafood dishes. We hope to return many times!
Exceptionally poor service, waited an hour and a half after ordering only for server to ask us what we ordered and tell us that it hadn’t been put in
A gem of a spot
