Michaels Downtown is part of the Long Beach family of restaurants that include Michael's on Naples, Michael's Pizzeria, and Chianina Steakhouse.
One of the best meals and overall experience we have ever had! The food was out of this world, all handmade pastas and wood fired pizza. Our server was great and engaging. Thank you for making my daughters graduation dinner an evening my family will never forget!!!!!
Excellent as always! Thank you for a wonderful dinner 🍷
Loved it-we will go back!
The food was excellent
David at Front Desk is so kind, hospitable and professional. We’ll be back!
Michael's Downtown never fails to offer delicious food and excellent service. It is our favorite " neighborhood restaurant," but also special occasion worthy.
Delicious food and a really great, casual-chic vibe. Love this place and will definitely come back!
Really great homemade Italian dinner. We sat outside and with the heaters it was perfect. Food and service were great.
On a late Sunday afternoon, it was quiet and beautiful to sit outside at this lovely little restaurant. We so enjoyed the prosciutto, burrata and bruleed pear appetizer. We wanted to try the clam and shrimp with Calabrian chilis, but sadly, no clams were available. We opted for the delicious Lasagna Bolognese, which had a real authentic taste and feel to it (no ricotta, yay!). Also enjoyed the artichoke and fennel salad. Will come back for sure!
Such a great place to be for any occasions! Great service and staff and of course delicious food!
I ordered the ravioli, and my friends had the eggplant and the pasta bolognese. The eggplant was not even warm and did not taste good. Leaving most of her food behind the server didn't ask if it was alright or anything. My other friend thought her dish was good. I thought my ravioli was under-cooked and was a little funky tasting. Not terrible-just not right. I hate to say it but my stomach hurt afterwards. Service was lousy and it turned into the longest lunch! I will not be returning.
I liked it just ok. When you are dropping this kind of cash and looking for a more upscale and delicious dinner, just go to Michael's on Naples. The appetizers of steak tartare and charcuterie plate were superb. We were excited for the dishes yet to be served, only to be completely disappointed. The shrimp and clam diavolo was too salty, and I love my salt! The clams were cooked well although one did not open and was served to us. Not professional. The shrimp were overcooked: rubbery and dry. Shocked since we have never had seafood cooked in this manner ever at Michael's on Naples. The chicken parm was cut thin and pounded wide unevenly so one end of it was burnt and very dry. Like a chewy chicken cracker. There was hardly any cheese and even less sauce on most of the chicken. The house Chianti is very good. We will definitely be back for happy hour, tartare, charcuterie and to try the pizzas, but as for fine dining and a special night out, skip it. We have been to Michael's on Naples more times than I can count and they pay better attention to the quality of the food. I know this is a more casual place, but rubbery shrimp and dried out chicken are never ok.
Also the staff does not know the menu. Tartare says it comes with bread on the menu. Ours did not. The hostess made us feel stupid for asking for it. She said, "it doesn't come with bread, but if you want it... " Bread could be better and fresher too. Not the quality I was expecting from a Michael's restaurant.
One more observation, the music geared towards styles that the younger wait staff presumably like. It was blaring on the patio and getting louder. We had to ask them to turn it down. Looking around, this restaurant had older patrons due to the prices. I don't want to hear overly-loud autotune and singers that sing from a constricted throat, which seems to be the trend today, when I'm dropping close to $200. We'll be back to give it another chance, but we won't be spending the same amount.
Great ambiance, great food, great evening!
First time to The area
Perfect place for dinner. Food was delicious and the staff couldn’t have been nicer. Will definitely return v
Wonderful food, great service.sat at the bar and the chef was delightful
Michael's Downtown has amazing pasta and the service is excellent! It has become one our favorite restaurants and you should try it.
The Executive chef and his staff are incredible and food is amazing.
Great place to go for all occasions
Amazing atmosphere with the hospitality and the food being everything and more than I expected. I will definitely go again.
Great food & great service !!! Definitely my fave Italian spot
Made a reservation but didn’t get a table. Had to sit at the bar. Why bother making a reservation?
I booked a table inside, and they wanted to seat us outside or at the counter.
The pizza had no flavour at all, the quantity of its ingredients was minimal, it was as eating just bread.
The first pizza came burnt, but the restaurant offered to replace it immmediately.
David is always a welcome. My server, Camille, was knowledgeable, attentive and very spirited in presence. Dinner was an extreme pleasure.
Authentic Italian food, their gluten free pizza dough is outstanding, they also have gluten-free pasta.
Was expecting the chicken parm to be amazing. It was bland and not much favor.
Lovely outdoor seating for our group of 7. Nice heaters & firepit table. Food & drinks are great for the price. Service was excellent. Fun outdoor patio!
Michael’s ambiance reminded me of a cafeteria/food court. It wasn’t very warm and welcoming. The servers seem understaffed and overwhelmed. We ordered from the dine LA menu and everything we got was good but not great.
Food was terrific and the service was as well. I definitely will go back.
Nice service and excellent food quality and flavor. Portion sizes were just right for the Dine LA tasting menu.
Jessie was an awesome server. He made sure everything was perfect.
Delicious. Table slightly uncomfortable. Excellent service.
Good experience. Food was great. Parking was ample. Enjoyed myself
I Googled for restaurants close to the hotel my daughter was staying at while attending classes in So Cal. Michael's was one of the top contenders. I was so pleased we went there. They had a lovely Prix Fix menu, with choices of the appetizers, entree, and soup or salad. Absolutely marvelous tastes and flavors. Will be happy to return in the future.
A great experience all around! The food was a wonderful surprise of quality, flavor, and presentation. We live close by, had never stopped there before, but will absolutely be back!
The chef prepares his menu with love and joy. I haven't had a bad meal at this place.
Great service. Food is good. Overall value is great.
The food was good but not as good as Michael ‘s in Naples.
The best Italian food in town. Hands down.
Very good home made Italian Pizza garnish with fresh Ingredients.
I recommend this place to everyone like a real Italian Pizza
