Michael Jordan's The Steak House N.Y.C. Ratings and Reviews
Your service and staff are impeccable. However, your Appetite RS need a touch up. The dressing for the lettuce wedge is bland. As we're your crab cakes. Over whelmed with bread stuffing. The cut off meat rib eye was not tenderize adequately. Was only disappointed in the taste of your food. Presentation was very appealing.
Food is absolutely amazing but the service needs a little work we arrived and the lady at the front told us to go to the back we went to find a rude lady like a gard dog ready to attack us then to pointed us to the restrooms we responded we had a reservation so then she pointed to a table so we went and sat waiting over 15 minutes for service other people who were coming in after us were being served and we are waiting we then asked for a manager and he was delightful and changed our experience around
The food is amazing and worth going
We have visited this place many times before and we love the surroundings and the atmosphere of Grand Central Station. The staff at MJs are good and service good, the food and menu though is a little tired. Steaks are not as good quality as the past. Not sure if the sourcing of the meat has changed but it was all pretty tasteless and between us we had Sirloin, Fillet Mignon, Ribeye. None of the steaks were very tasty. The appetisers were the same and rather bland. It’s a shame but the menu needs re-invigorating and the meat needs a better source.
Took my family on mid pm New Year’s Eve, we are steaks lovers, so we ordered steaks for all three; for my taste it was good, for my lady a little spicy on the outside but good in the inside. Happy to find a good eating place on that busy day. The little one was looking around to see Michael Jordan ... lol...very friendly place, most appreciated though
V disappointing. I booked a table a month in advance & sent a note that we were visiting to celebrate my birthday and our 20th wedding anniversary. I asked for a romantic table overlooking the concourse. The traffic was so bad we had to abandon our cab & walk 6 blocks in -7c. We arrived on time & were told by a female ‘host’ that there was only one table left-they’d overbooked and we could take it or leave it - and if another table did become available they’d tell us. No-one acknowledged either event in our lives & we were dumped at a table with a dirty table cloth. My wife asked for this to be changed. We were then left without even a drink for 20mins. Eventually my wife asked if they could take a drinks order for us. The man in a suit seemed surprised, but asked us what we wanted. After a while he came back and said the wine we’d ordered was unavailable. My wife asked what was similar. He said “Well the rosé is a sweet wine”(wrong!) then offered us a prosecco at the same price. We agreed it was a kind gesture. We came to order starters after asking three times (45mins). My wife ordered the endive salad and pronounced it ‘on-deeve’, which is correct - even I know that😳. The suit said “sorry?” “Oh, you mean the en-dive salad?” My wife apologised.. After a while the starters arrived. Amazing! I can’t recommend the garlic bread enough! It comes with a Gorgonzola fondue. Half way through, a better table had been cleared and my wife asked if it was available. After some discussions between Managers, another suit came over and said “Right! We move now!” We were unceremoniously moved mid-course. V embarrassing. The steaks arrived and we were given each other’s. I had to ask for a glass of red 4 times before it came. When the bill arrived the prosecco was charged at full price. We tipped despite this and were ignored when we left. 2 courses, 1 bottle and 1 glass=$247. Food was fab, front of house, just disgraceful. Special evening = ruined😞. Wish I hadn’t tipped....
Went with 3 generations for Christmas dinner. Arrived 1/2 hour early for reservation and had no problem being seated. The food was delicious and 4 out of 5 steaks were cooked to perfection. Our waiter was attentive and not overbearing. One of the buspersons did shatter a glass next to me and shards went all over me and not a peep from anyone....Luckily it was near the end of the meal and the mopping and bustle wasn't distracting for too long.
The venue delivers in every way. Unfortunately the food and staff come up short. Made a reservation for Christmas Day dinner and despite the reservation, no one on staff seemed to be prepared or equipped to set the experience in motion. The server was not particularly attentive, nor prompt in retrieving drink orders or replenishing them. Our appetizer order came out quickly, but the plate pickup seemed to be an inconvenience to our bored server.
My husband and I both had the ribeye which had an excellent flavor and the sides were al la carte', mashed potatoes and broccoli carrying a fair taste. The food was delivered after we had sat with mostly empty drinks for about 20 minutes. Presentation was spot on for the price, too bad the temperature was not. The steaks were lukewarm, the sides almost cold.
Considering that the restaurant had a large staff running around and that the venue was mostly empty, I find it hard to believe that they couldn't do much better. I would eat here again, solely based on the venue. Being able to stare out across Grand Central Terminal is a rare experience while dining. I just wish our food and service had been up to par.
I highly recommend this often overlooked NY restaurant. It is vastly under-rated by all restaurant sites and has a great view of the Main Concourse at Grand Central Station. I always dine at Michael Jordan's whenever I am in New York, whether for business or leisure travel. The food and service are always exceptional and my guests always love it. I took my family of seven there for a Christmas lunch on this trip. This included my teenage and six year old granddaughters and my son in law who is a major Michael Jordan fan, along with my two daughters and my wife. We had originally made a reservation for 2PM to be close to the balcony for a good view of the main concourse, but changed it with them to 1PM since we had done our morning sightseeing more quickly than planned. We actually arrive closer to 12:30PM. The maître d' and wait staff bent over backwards to accommodate us even though they were busy, and no balcony tables were available. To make a long story short, they eventually seated us in Michael Jordan's private room which had an even better view of the Grand Central Station main concourse than any other table - and it was very private. Our waiter, Rinaldo, also entertained us with numerous stories about Michael Jordan's visit to his room as well as exceptional service and attention to my grandchildren, so it was a fantastic experience for all. None of them (besides my wife) had ever been to NYC, so it was a very special day for them. One of the best Christmas dinners we have ever had. And of course the steaks and other food was excellent - as always!
Great service. We had finished plans and were able to change times.
The food was hot and quick. After serving the steak, the waiter disappears.
I had poured my own refill of water, the manager had to get our check.
I the waiter would of done his job it was a excellent location for steak
Food was very good. Location and setting wonderful. Wait staff was like something out of a comedy routine. I actually saw someone from another table get up and get menus for his group. They brought out the wrong drinks. Never asked if we wanted another round or how our meals were. Tried to remove my plate while I was still eating. At the end of the meal we ordered an Irish coffee, coffee w/ bailey's and a cappuccino....I thought for sure poor Jeffrey would have a meltdown...and the staff buzzing around him no better. Not sure if I'd give it another shot or not.
Decided we would treat ourselves on our visit to NYC this year. The food we ordered was amazing. I don’t think I have ever tasted a steak as good anywhere else. It was cooked to perfection. We loved sitting on the balcony. Service was very good. We would definitely recommend for a special occasion or a treat.
We'd requested a table next to the railing, knowing that they might not be able to accommodate. When we arrived we were told that one would be available within about 15 minutes, so we decided to wait. After 10 minutes we were told they hadn't forgotten about us, which could either have been thoughtful or a cover up as other people who arrived after us got seated at the one table that had become available and after 20 minutes we were told that the party at the table we were waiting for was just now getting their entree. How did that go from 15 minutes to "they're only now getting their entree"? Anyway, we went with a different table which was totally fine as well. There was a waiter chatting with someone sitting at the table next to us - we didn't know that was our waiter so we waited and waited for someone to take our drink order (as no one else was to be seen) until a different waiter tapped the shoulder of the waiter next to us and asked him to take our order. 20 minutes after we got seated we got our drinks. Food was nice, portion sizes were good! However the service was really disappointing. It was slow, our waiter didn't pay attention to us at all, birthday was not acknowledged in any way and it was overall just kinda disappointing.
Food was good, not great. The waiter disregarded a serious shellfish allergy we shared with him and they clearly cross contaminated our food and left my wife very ill for the next 24 hours, ruining a portion of our week long stay in Manhattan. Definitely not a top tier steakhouse, should have gone to Wolfgang Zwiener's or the Peter Luger Steakhouse.
I have eaten at Michael Jordan's on several occasions. The ambiance is wonderful, overlooking the main hall at Grand Central Station. The service was fine, courteous and friendly. My only grip is the size of the portion for the price. My business partner and I both ordered filet mignons, mine on the bone, his boneless. Both were very small and expensive. Each were over $45.00 . The side dishes were each $10.00 and were also small for the price.
I ate at a different steak house yesterday and the filet mignon were a little more expensive, but twice the size.
Overall, the quality of the food was fine, but the value is missing
I was meeting a friend for lunch and we both ordered the steak tacos. What a disappointment. Sliced over cooked cold chewy pieces of steak arrived. I was very disappointed and I suggest staying away from this. It might have been an off day and I am not ready to write this place off just yet. On the plus side, the service and the atmosphere is fantastic.
I had booked the reservation weeks before visiting, but we we arrived I think around 7 , the place was nearly empty - I suspect for a reason. I had a traumatic experience here. I requested to move to another table and was refused and lied to. They said the table was reserved but it was vacant when I left. They could have easily moved us to a better location, instead of right next for another couple with my facing a wall in a nearly empty restaurant Service was cool and aloof and lazy. I had to send my steak back - it came out fairly quickly. I ordered medium to medium rare and this beautiful steak was grey with no pink. Then it took a very long time to receive my revenge of a nearly raw steak, Stay away from this place. The view of Grand Central is great , but not worth the price of bad food and unfriendly staff.
This was a terrible time. I am very upset that I wasted my $20 reward on this meal. Service was terrible and so was the food. Our waiter told us that they had accepted a last minute holiday party, and really I think the restaurant forgot about all their other guests. Everything was very rushed and the food came out room temperate like it had been sitting out. This was supposed to be a birthday celebrations for my mother who was visiting NYC for her 65th birthday. The waiter and host did nothing for birthday, even though I told them. At the end I had to mention it to out waiter again, infant of my mother and therefor the surprise was ruined. The cake came out bland, and like it was sitting out all day. No candle, no birthday recognition. I would never go back to this location. The one in Chicago is fabulous. We are very disappointed.
