Mia's Cantina - Downers Grove
One thing that makes Mia's Cantina such a great choice is that authenticity. Patrons will notice this the moment they open the menu to such options as the de la taqueria which includes three tacos made to order. Options range from beer battered fish tacos and grilled skirt steak tacos to black bean and zucchini options. Abundant side dishes pair well with the smaller plates, but generous entrées will satisfy any appetite in one go. Whether it is fajitas, the tilapia in Veracruz-style salsa, or the house specialty enchiladas, no one leaves hungry. Desserts and smaller plates make Mia's Cantina a good choice for families too!
Had the fish tacos-delicious. The margaritas were tasty. Service was very good. Our server made sure we had everything we needed.
Lucked up on this little gem in downtown Downer's Grove! David, the Bartender met us with a friendly smile on a quiet weekday evening. The chips were warm ) The Michelada was delicious and Shrimp Tacos were fresh and tasty, could follow above suggestion for salsa. Definitely on the list to visit again. Overall, Mia's Cantina is a great spot for a trendy Tequila flight, family night or special night out!
Extremely cordial waiter. Great drinks and meal.
Good serviceable Mexican. Service was friendly, efficient and attentive. Food was average but nothing spectacular. Value was good and pleasant cheery ambiance. Would return
Love coming to this restaurant, the food is always great, and the atmosphere is spot on. The margaritas are also delish!
A nice, conveniently-located restaurant with good atmosphere and great service. Chips & salsa were great, as was the guacamole. But my steak fajitas lacked the characteristic flavor that I have come to expect, to the point of being bland.
Food was not good, overall I would not recommend this restaurant. Downtown Downers is in need of a good Mexican restaurant, I’m sorry this one does not make the cut.
Poor service and it wasn’t crowded. Margaritas were good.
The guacamole was excellent, drink very good, but main dishes were just ok (fish tacos). Service was very good and all were friendly, but the noise level was ridiculous. We couldn’t wait to leave. We’d give it another try but at a not busy time.
Mia's was good, but not quite great. For such a prime downtown DG location, I'd expect a little bit better food and ambiance, but it's a standard Mexican restaurant. We'll probably be back if we want to eat Mexican in downtown DG.
Disappointing. Most reviews talked about authentic Mexican cuisine. This was instead routine Mexican food in the US. Nothing exceptional. Some dishes. Ether than others but none worth going back for. We do wanted to find a good Mexican place in the western suburbs since Aguamiel closed. Guess we’re still looking.
Good food and good service. Authentic Mexican food!
Food very good. Beer specials were very good value. Service was good.
All that was missing to make this a perfect experience was the service. Slowest I’ve had in a very long time. Cocktails and food is excellent tho so if u have the time to sit and relax definitely check this place out. I’ve heard this same complaint from others so it’s just the nature of the way they run things, however, the food and cocktails make up for it.
Will try again
The food was very good and had more gourmet options rather than the usual Mexican fare. The house margarita could have been tastier for the price.
We’ve been to both locations and the food is great at both of them. Service is great at both locations as well. We got a pitcher of sangria for $30 and it was totally worth it! The chips are my favorite!
We ordered Carne Asada and tacos Nortenos. Also a raspberry margarita and a Tito’s and tonic. I would save the money on the drinks and order beer. They are very light on the alcohol. The food was very good.
Delicious food!!!! Chicken fajitas were so tasty!!!
Service was rough! The noise level was off the charts obnoxious and the restaurant was so warm.
Very nice alway love going here!!
Delicious food and margaritas. Had a reservation and was seated right away. Would definitely recommend to my friends and will return.
Over all food was good and tastes great. Server was very forgetful when we would ask for something, he would leave to go get it and come back with nothing so we would have to ask again. Worth the price and would go back again.
Daddy-daughter taco night, good times!
Always a great experience. Food was great. Service is the best. Always a pleasure to stop by and see David.
Our server was excellent....very attentive. The food tasted fresh and yummy.
The mojitos were the best :)
The noise level was a bit much for me. It was a full house on a Saturday night.
Good food with generous portions. Has the Baja fish tacos and they were delicious! Also, we all had margaritas and they were flavorful.
A great place to meet friends. We have been there before and will return!
Food made well. Tamale, Sapratinos etc all test excellent. Good margaritas too. All in all good place for kids and adults
Always great food and service.
We were pleasantly surprised as a back up restaurant to another local place that was too long of a wait …… we loved the specials and the creativity in their offerings for dinner. It is not just anther Mexican restaurant …….but a nice tasty option.
We've been before and this time was a little disappointing. Food was very good but both bar service and table, as well as hostess, were lacking. Most requests had to be made twice and items ordered not as explained. Will go back again and hopefully this was just an off night.
This use to be our favorite Mexican restaurant in the area. Lately though it seems to have gone downhill. Both the service and food are lackluster. Very slow service and it appears they are very short-staffed. My favorite fajitas have been lacking any flavor lately. Very subpar. Not sure if ownership changed hands or what but it's not what it used to be.
Very disappointed in the server we had. Guests that arrived after us got their food before us and we had barely gotten our drinks. Then when food finally came my tacos were on corn when I ordered them on flour. Now I know this sounds like a bad review, but the food was excellent even though it was wrong. Then when we spoke to manager about our service he covered our whole bill. An amazing gesture which convinced me that I would definitely go back again. Hopefully our next experience has better service.
Good food and great margaritas. Portions were not large for the price. Very noisy.
The food was good, but the service was bad and there was no reason for it. It wasn’t crowded and there were a lot of servers. I guess we just got a server who didn’t want to be there
The food was just ok. Not interested in going back
Service was extremely slow server was busy working the customers out in the outdoor cafe area and basically ignored us. We were a party of six and fairly easy to take care of. In my opinion they should have had more help.
I found this restaurant on Open Table when looking for a lunch option on Mother's Day that wasn't a brunch and located in Downers Grove. I'm familiar with the area but had never seen Mia's right off of Main St on Curtiss. My daughter's friend had told her that it was a nice place and that we were going to enjoy it. Well, they were absolutely correct! Since it was Mother's Day, it wasn't very crowded which made for a nice experience. Atmosphere was quaint. The food was delicious and so were both the Margaritas and the Sangria! I highly recommend the Ceviche! Delish! We all commented that we definitely wanted to come back again. Thanks, Mia's!
The food was not good along with the service. They got our orders wrong and it took a while for the waitress to come by to take our order considering it was slow in there. It was definitely overpriced for the quality of service and food. That explains why it was not crowded for a Saturday nite. I definitely will not be returning. I rate this place 1 Star!
