MH Fish House - Permanently Closed Ratings and Reviews
This was the best fresh fish & seafood that I have ever had. The service was excellent. The pace on how the food was brought to the table was outstanding. Not too fast and not too slow. It was just right. I can't wait to get back there for a wonderful dinner.
You don't have time to read all of the wonderful attributes of this restaurant. From the time we arrive until the time we leave, our experience is seamless and joyful. We have tasted everything on the menu and have partaken of daily specials--each bite is a reward for the senses. The wait staff is kind, knowledgeable and patient for those with special food requests. Cocktails are ample and well poured. Fish House is an extraordinary haven for anyone wanting a perfect culinary evening.
Outstanding seafood and loved the fact they offered small plates and 1/2 orders of the main dishes so we could try several items. Unfortunately, the service was not good. It was almost 30 minutes before anyone came to our table to take our drink order and then several more minutes before they brought us bread. My wine finally came but my husband had to wait even longer for his diet coke. Once they finally came to take our food order, the service improved. They brought our dishes timely, but then we had to wait too long again for the dessert menu and then for our waiter to return to take our dessert order. By that time we decided to skip dessert since we were tired of waiting and just wanted to pay our tab and leave. Despite the disappointing service, we would return again since we very much enjoyed the food and atmosphere.
We had an excellent meal. Service was perfect. We asked the staff for a little extra time after the appetizer so we could discuss the play we had just attended. Like magic our conversation quieted and the salads appeared. Someone was paying attention. The Shrimp and Mussels with Risotto has to be tried.
Decor could use a little work. We would recommend.
We chose this restaurant for a mid-week anniversary dinner. The food was delicious and very fresh. An added bonus is that all bottles of wine under $100 are half-proved on Wednesday nights. We started with 2 of the 4 fresh oyster choices. We chose the 2 varieties from the East Coast. So fresh and delicious! Entrees come in 1/2 and full portions. I had the appetizer-sized seared scallops. So great! 3 good sized scallops come with truffle mashed potatoes, shaved Brussel Sprouts and a sprinkling of chorizo. My husband had the grilled halibut and it was good but I think he was envious of my dish ;-)
No room for dessert but they looked delicious. The evening was warm so we were able to sit out on the small balcony. The server was knowledgable and very friendly.
We tried several dishes recently, and each one was excellent. The second-floor restaurant is very small and intimate with a few outdoor tables overlooking the street. I would love to return but prices were on the high side, which will limit future visits. It's definitely great for a special occasion meal, though.
My husband and I just enjoyed a very nice anniversary dinner 8/7 at MH Fish House. It's a very small restaurant, with a tiny bar area. Our food was excellent, as was the service. We were not rushed, which was a welcome change, and whenever we needed something, our waitress was already on it. We had an appetizer of octopus, which was delicious. For dinner, I had the lobster tail and my husband had the grilled halibut. Both were out of this world! We will return.
This is our new favorite place to go for special occasions. The oysters are flown in fresh daily from both coasts and are served with a perfect mignonette (cocktail sauce and horseradish are available by request)--we crave them! The rest of the menu is a balance of artistically prepared ocean denizens, served with seasonal produce that will excite each guest. The cocktails are generous and well-poured. We aren't wine people but we do know that there is an extensive selection. Finally, a word about the service: we have never seen such warm, knowledgeable and professional service staff as we have, repeatedly, at The Fish House. On all levels, this care makes for an excellent evening. We cannot wait to go back!
We have been to this restaurant twice in the last month. The service was impeccable, the ambience superior and the food – I had salmon that was prepared according to my special instructions because of dietary restrictions- melted in my mouth.
On the second visit, we also found wonderful service – again we had specific request for a birthday – and wonderful ambience. The restaurant is very accommodating and a lovely experience.
Second time at this restaurant and overall, again, a wonderful dining experience. Only reason for 4 stars on the food was the appetizer, ahi tuna. Although the tuna was very fresh the sauce with it was not flavorful enough and the wonton chips that came with it were greasy and not very tasty. Our salad was a 5+, spring pea. Both main course dishes were 5's. I had the crab cake, yum, and the bit of greens paired with it was excellent. Hubby had the halibut, cooked perfectly and tasty. Service was very good.
Their drinks on the rocks are true doubles and only about $10. One was bourbon, Maker's Mark and the other vodka, Kettle One. Excellent value
If you want a great fish dinner, the menu is almost all fish, this is the place.
Great date nite w hubby. Menu is great and they offer half portion entrees, allowing us to try multiple courses without leftovers. Wine is very pricey by glass and no prices posted by glass, best to get a bottle. So intimate , both inside and out. Service was impeccable. Will return!
This is a small place, upstairs, with a nice veranda that is open in good weather and closed in during less ideal weather. The emphasis is on fresh fish, although there is a steak entree as well. We ordered lobster which was fantastic and simply grilled halibut which was delicious. Service is friendly and competent. The wine list is good and the staff is very helpful with menu and wine selections.
Had dinner there this past Friday night (May 15, 2015). Party of four sat in booth in SE corner of restaurant, very private, but not isolated. Everyone enjoyed starters (Salads were fantastic) and then a main course (Tuna was absolutely perfect). Dishes were very well presented and interesting, this is not just a place for fish, would put in category with some of the best restaurants downtown.
Truly cannot think of a better name for this establishment. Everything is just perfect ... ambiance, service, quality of food, and overall friendliness and professionalism of staff. Clearly, dining with friends at Fish House is as close as we can get to the warmth of dining at home!
