Excellent pastas, good happy hour wine selection, great deserts. Great neighborhood spot!
Great pizzas and salads, delicious cocktails and good wine list.
This restaurant was a comfortable neighborhood gem. We are sorry that it closed.
I’m a regular at Mezzogiorno. I typically eat there twice a month. The food is always very good, the service friendly and reasonably attentive, and the prices reasonable (by Manhattan standards).
Sorry to hear that Mezzogiorno will be closing by the end of October. Space will be taken over by owners of Fumo, the Hamilton Heights restaurant.
I've been to Mezzogiorno many times. The food has been consistently excellent and the atmosphere is pleasant, although if it's very crowded it can get noisy. The service is good, although occasionally a little slow. It's a reliable and comfortable place for dinner with friends.
It was good, not great, but good. Maybe when I read the menu online, what I conjured up in my head sounded (?) better than what I ate. No complaints though. A nice Italian restaurant.
Practically empty yet the waitress seemed disinterested rather than super welcoming and engaging.
The food was good and the service was friendly and efficient.
Very good pasta, casual place. Only downside was that the aircon was down. Service was great too, apologetic about the situation. Would return.
We love this restaurant. Food is great but please fix the air conditioning!
A disappointment. We walked in and the restaurant was not as it appeared on its website. It was semi-shabby, which was okay, but what was not okay was the temperature. It was about 85 degrees inside, and the air conditioning was emitting a tepid breeze which felt like it was coming across a swampy lake in late August. Normally, we would've turned around and gone elsewhere, but there were 9 people waiting for us at a table. We had no choice but to stay. I asked about the temperature and was told they'd just closed the windows and it would be cooler in a few minutes. It was definitely cooler 20 minutes later, but still not what it should've been.
The service was okay. The waitress was spread pretty thin, so a manager and a busboy filled in the gaps. Everyone was friendly, but you could tell they were extremely uncomfortable, too. I looked around the restaurant at one point and most of the staff were wiping their foreheads or holding a glass of ice to their face. It was extremely disturbing.
The food was okay. In no way was it a cascade of culinary delights. The best I can say about it is, it was edible.
I’d never been to this restaurant before and picked it a few days earlier based on OpenTable and Yelp reviews. But I also checked their instagram account and noticed it hadn't been updated since November 2017. This was a sign I should've paid attention to. In 2018, if a restaurant can't take 90 seconds to put up a decent picture of something as simple as a delicious looking bread basket, there's a problem.
I felt like this restaurant had at one time been a Rhodes scholarship winning beauty, with a bright future on the horizon and a scrapbook full of awards and press clippings stored under its bed. Fast forward to today. The beauty has faded, the intellect was never utilized. And on a walk home from a horrible job they hated, it stopped in the Duane Reade, bought a box of Nice-n-Easy and a six pack and called it a day.
I have always ejoyed Mezzogiorno. However, the air conditioning was not working prooerly and there was also a terrobly unpleasant odor of disinfectant or cleaning fluid. We understand fixing the a/c is a financially probibitive issue so I felt awful leaving before dinner, but on a very hot day, we felt a need to leave after drinks. I hope someone helps out this worthwhile restaurant.
The special pasta of the day was called Fiocchietti con Formaggio e pera ($20), which is cheese and pear filled, it was outstanding. In the winter it is on the menu all the time. My waitress Laura was helpful and friendly.
AC in back dining room was weak. Front room very noisy. Food good. Prices good.
I've been to Mezzogiorno many times and never had a bad experience. The food is good, the menu creative and interesting, and the wine selection pleasantly varied. By NYC standards, the prices are reasonable (more or less). There are times when the service is a little slow, but for the most part it's good and the servers are courteous and friendly.
This is my favorite neighborhood restaurant and one that I always rely on if dining out (which I don't do too often). It seems to have a balanced menu i.e. enough for a wide selection but not so much that it's hard to choose. The wait staff is prompt, attentive and friendly Sometimes I wish it were open for lunch but I think I understand why. There are lots of places in the neighborhood and it probably wouldn't be economically sound.
I have generally been a fan of Mezzogiorno-I’ve probably come 4 or 5 times in the last six months — but last week’s entree was a terrible disappointment— and embarrassing, because I came with a friend who is a real fan of Italian food and I had told him how good Mezzogiorno was. I wanted him to be pleased. It was Saturday evening and We ordered the veal with tomatoes. We also shared a salad and an appetizer — I don’t remember which one. The cutlet was just dried out, there’s no other word for it. And the topping was plain tomatoes with some green. I’ll give you another chance but that entrée was really awful.
Service was generally efficient but unenthusiastic. They could have sold at least one more glass of wine, had they asked if anyone wanted a refill. On a hot evening, the ac was not up to par. The food, however, was good and merits another visit. If the service and ac are not in better shape, the next visit will probably be the last.
We had a great time here! The food was amazing and the service great too!
Excellent restaurant with pasta dishes made on site with their own pasta. Not at all stuffy, staff stellar and service excellent. A solid neighborhood asset, and a good value within very comfortable surroundings. And the serve a wonderful Creme Brûlée-my favorite! No one will be disappointed here, for lunch or dinner. I expect to return often.
Dishes ranged from average to unusually good. Pasta (veal ragu) was above average, as was calamari salad. Service someehat mixed.
I have eaten here on several prior occasions and find it to be my favorite, reliable neighborhood staple for dining out. On one occasion I was joined by three family members who were equally happy with the cuisine, service, etc. There are many dining choices in this neighborhood but this is my favorite.
There was no air conditioning.
The food is fantastic. The place , management and service has zero personality. It seems at if it left it's life and soul downtown and is waiting out a slow death uptown.
As I said the food is fantastic, and i will continue to patronize.
That is, if I feel like the sad environment and just need a good meal.
But that is not enough. Too bad.
We enjoy this restaurant a lot. Friendly service, reasonable portions and authentic tasting Italian food.
The vitello tonato was more like boar's head sliced deli veal than anything else. Sauce was nice, though.
Cleaning tables with pungent detergent during dinner made me think I was in a coffee shop at closing time. There were numerous tables occupied during the detergent "wipe downs."
We took our son and daughter-in-law out for dinner. They really enjoy the food and wine available. I enjoy the windows on the street. I had the rack of lamb special which was delicious.
The service is warm and attentive. My husband and I are both a bit hard of hearing and we find it quite noisy for conversation. There is no music, but all the glass can make loud conversation reverberate.
Food was fresh and flavorful, not overly imaginative. A very friendly place with attentive and accommodating service. Ambiance is basic storefront.
This was a Mothers Day treat. Although the waiters were rushed off their feet (apparently there was a shortage of staff, busboys) the food was very good. Our waitress recommended calamari for the starter and it was excellent.
I have been to Mezzogiorno many times and I've never been disappointed. The food is consistently good and the variety of dishes offered makes it a particularly enjoyable place to dine. The restaurant can be rather noisy on busy evenings, but that's true of many places in New York City (and elsewhere).
Great venue, nice location in this neighborhood. Food is simply great and really tasty. The service is fast and really friendly. Highly recommended. 5 Stars.
Nice place to meet with friends for a really good meal. Not your high-end dining experience, but really pleasant atmosphere and service and the food is well prepared.
Mezzogiorno was fantastic!! The food really reminded me of Italy -- very authentic in every way. I would highly recommend this restaurant to anyone who loves true Italian food!
The pizza is outstanding, exactly like it is in Rome: crisp thin crust, fresh tomato sauce, superior ingredients. The Insalata Mezzogiorno is delicious - so glad it's back on the menu! The pastas are delicious and authentic, too.
I've eaten at Mezzogiorno several times over the past year or more and have never been disappointed. It's a pleasant place, their fare is varied and I've never been unhappy with the meal. I hope this restaurant stays around for a very long time.
I have dined at Mezzogiorno on a number of occasions and enjoyed every meal I've had there. The restaurant offers an interesting selection of specials, along with a regular menu that includes a pleasing variety of dishes. There also evenings with a "happy hour" up until 7 p.m.--there's a lot to be said for a $5 glass of prosecco!
I prefer to dine at Mezzogiorno earlier in the evening, when the restaurant is quieter. It can become quite noisy later in the evening.
Really enjoyed the meal. I had the sea bass which was fantastic. Also tried a pasta from the specials menu which was good. The bread (2 types) was excellent. Service was good. We sat talking for over two hours on week night and there was no pressure to leave. I would definitely come back. I wanted a restaurant not too far from Columbia University and this was a good choice.
Mezzogiorno was as good as always. Excellent pasta, seafood, good wines for good value.... We come here often pre- and post- theater and concerts and we're always very pleased with the food, the ambiance, the service.
Wonderful staff. Delicious food.
