Not recommended. The UWS location is convenient, the place is comfortable, the prices okay for a neighborhood dinner, and the service okay, but the food is disappointing. A seafood platter consisted of small, bland shrimp, a watery scallop, and a mysterious strip of grilled chicken (?!), all reminiscent of cafeteria food. A request to replace grilled tomato--an odd side dish in November-with vegetables was handled nicely, but the vegetables, like the seafood, had no taste or appeal. What's needed is someone to compose and execute dishes worthy of the location, and that includes finding good suppliers. Until then, there are better options.

It's a pleasant place, but extremely noisy, so we will not return for dinner.

Went to Mezzogiorno again the other day for pizza and was dismayed to find that they'd changed the menu. Our favorite pizza, "Regina," with mozzarella bufala, was gone. So was a great artichoke salad. We were grateful that at the remaining pizzas hadn't changed in quality, but -- why? Why change something good?

We loved this restaurant when it was done south. When they moved up to the present locale we followed. However, poor poor service and it is in the middle of nowhere for travelers. Sorry to say.

The lasagna is always delicious and the chicken with potatoes and spinach was very good. Hazelnut chocolate cake with vanilla ice cream ended the meal very well. Nice atmosphere and good service.

I particularly liked the calamari appetizer. It was fresh and zesty. There is am emphasis on combining leafy greens into otherwise normally less textured plates, like fresh frizee with veal and arugula with pasta. Next time I will try a pizza.

Eggplant fritters lacked any notion of eggplant. Pastas were quite good and properly cooked. Service was very attentive and well meaning if a bit inexperienced.

Ambiance in the outter room is lacking. Is in need of a renovation.

Fantastic, as always. Have been coming to Mezzogiorno's since 1999, when it was on Spring Street. My Employer took me there for lunch to welcome me to the firm. My first job after graduating. Had the Lasagna Bolognese and haven't stopped coming back for it since. My favorite/only Lasagna to eat out in all of NYC.

It was the birthday of an old friend and he is very fussy about what he eats. We've eaten here a few times (very tasty pasta dish) but this time I tried something new. It was beautifully presented and delicious. I finished it, something I rarely do when I eat out. I hope they stay around for a long time. Bravissimo!

$17 cocktails? Are they kidding? They trained the waitresses to talk up the special cocktails that are not listed with a price. Very deceptive. Service was very slow and inattentive even though the restaurant was empty when we arrived. We shared a strip steak and caprese salad. Both were very good and plentiful. So one can get a good meal at high prices if willing to put up with the negatives.

I had dinner there with a close friend who lives in the neighborhood. We usually prefer to have lunch at Mezzogiorno because it can be quite noisy in the evening. However, it wasn't very crowded and the host put us at a table in a relatively quiet corner. The food was very good (all three courses) and the service fine. I had a cup of plain old regular coffee (not espresso or cappucino) at the end of the meal and I'd have to say it was the best coffee I've had in a restaurant in a long time.

Good food in a casual Columbia neighborhood restaurant. Unfortunately air conditioning
was not working but we stayed anyway. We did enjoy the food - warm calimari salad, melon
and prosciutto, lasagna.

We decided to have a meal in honor of "the first full moon after the Summer Solstice" and drink some good wine. The very reasonable corkage fees, availability of decanters and good wine glasses makes this place very wine friendly. We brought 2 bottles of Ken Wright Pinot Noir from 2008 and shared appetizers and salads and had main courses and a dessert. All in all an excellent meal and a wonderful experience. The waitress is convivial and attentive as is the entire staff, and, the food is excellently prepared from fresh and pristine ingredients.

l was disappointed. I'd heard this place, when it was in Soho, was a grand destination, but I went with a friend on a summer Sunday afternoon to the new location, and the food and the service were mediocre. I'd say "bad," but my friend finished her eggs. I didn't finish eating my panino . I'd walked into the place the week before by accident, for it looks just like the one next door. It's such a pretty space that I hated having to leave. So I booked a table for the next weekend. Maybe we shouldn't have ordered from the brunch menu. Maybe that was the problem. But that doesn't explain why service was so very slow, given that the restaurant wasn't crowded. The employees were all in a bad mood, it seemed, and didn't smile or offer even minimum courtesy. I'll give it another chance because I bet the pizzas, for example, are good, and maybe this was just an off day for service.

The room at Mezzogiorno is simple but attractive, but more important, the food is always reliable, indeed, for the location, excellent. Had an interesting appetizer the other night -- carpaccio with avocado, hearts of palm, olive oil and lemon. Since it's a variation on the delicious classic Italian carpaccio with arugula, I was a little skeptical, but it was delicious, even inspired, and every element was perfectly fresh. PIzzas are outstanding -- try the Regina, with a tangy-sweet tomato sauce, basil, and creamy mozzarella di bufala -- scrumptious. Wait staff extraordinarily pleasant and attentive.

The food, wine, and service were fine but the seating/table was cramped with barely enough room on the table to fit food & beverage. The noise level is distracting. We had requested a quiet table and there really was none to be had in the space.

Always good, excellent salads, best Roman style pizza (crisp crust, light fresh toppings, quality ingredients) I know of in New York. Take a bite, close your eyes, chew, and you're back in Rome for a few minutes. Very nice waitstaff, pleasant ambience. Really the best place on the far UWS.

Everything was OK, but I was disappointed overall The food was so/so and overpriced in my opinion, given the quality. The pizzas were on the small side, the two pasta dishes that the table ordered were mediocre, and my daughter did not like the lasagna. The carppaccio was good, the bread basket was nice, and they kept out water glasses full. The beer selection was not good - only three choices (Heineken, Amstel, or Sam Adams) but there were some interesting mixed drinks. This had a cafeteria atmosphere and I was hoping so much for a new great neighborhood Italian restaurant; theneighborhood has needed a good Italian spot for some time. Overall I would not recommend this spot as it was just so/so and overpriced.

Mezzogiorno exceeded our expectations and then some! On a whim, I booked a table for 4 here to celebrate Mother's Day. Knowing how busy restaurants can get on holidays, we were prepared to wait and not necessarily receive stellar attention. Our experience started off pleasantly from a call to confirm the reservation and ended with warm goodbyes, thankful bellies, and plans to return. The food - which was shared family style - was delicious: Calamari Saltati (appetizer), Costa Smeralda (salad), Trenette alle Vongole (pasta), Lasagna all Bolognese (pasta), Bianca al Prosciutto Crudo (pizza), Tiramisu (dessert). The service was stellar! We arrived a little early but the host was able to seat us immediately even though it was almost a full house. Our two servers were both friendly and accommodating, making excellent suggestions and taking care of us very well. Shah, one of our servers, went above and beyond to make sure we had an amazing experience. He really made the experience exceptional. This was possibly the first time not one person from our party had a single complaint. We look forward to our next visit.
