Great service (thank you Jamie), interesting food combos (loved the 35$special and chefs selection board). Wine list could be better (esp thoses reds by the glass). Sitting near the open balcolny windows was a perk.
The menu wasn’t clear that the cheeseboard did not include any bread or crackers to accompany the cheese. It was just a plate with five smallish servings of cheese. The fruit and nut bar wasn’t tasty. The tables also were low and I kept hitting my legs if I crossed them. We might try the downstairs food/drink another time but will pass on the upstairs.
Brian as a server was exceptional. He was very helpful to guests, in particular since we had not dined there before. I will asked to be seated at one of his tables next time. The seared tuna was excellent.
Great casual spot with great service. An easy place to take kids without sacrificing great food. There’s something for everyone. It’s a little pricey for a casual place, but worth it!
Loved everything! The chef’s charcuterie board was very impressive with the selection of house-cured meats, imported cheeses, house-baked breads and pickled veggies. Pizzas were perfectly prepared in the wood-fires oven. Linguine was amazing! Mezzorita cocktail was top notch and the chocolate crema dessert was to die for. Portions were very generous, definitely worth the prices. Staff was very attentive from refilling water and beverages to promptly bringing out the plated foods. Atmosphere was casual and comfortable, while also slightly upscale. Our reservation was at 8pm and the restaurant was busy all night. We were offered a table, but chose to sit at the bar where we were able to watch the cold plates being prepared (salads, desserts) and the pizzas made. Those line cooks were working quickly and making beautiful plates/pizzas. Can’t wait to go back for more!
Excellent food and service. Highly recommend. Great atmosphere .
Nice place, good food but way too much overpriced. $ 140 for a shared starter and two main dishes with three glasses of wine in total is too much for this place.
The food was really good but way overpriced I wouldn’t spend that much for just a family meal out. Also we were expecting to be able to order from downstairs as well
Would certainly dine here again!
Get the charcuterie and bread!
Mezzo was perfect for a graduation dinner. We had a few shareable plates and then the pizza. Everything was perfect and well made. One of my favorite restaurants in Pittsburgh.
The charcuterie plate is a must have menu item. No matter who I take: from work colleagues to family, there is something for everyone and they all love it.
Food was excellent but the restaurant and bar were packed and very obviously understaffed. We booked our reservation 2 full hours before the show we had tickets to see and still had to rush out the door after finally flagging our server down for the check. We didn't even have time for coffee and dessert. I'm giving the benefit of the doubt on this one because there are not typically big shows on Monday nights and we otherwise had a very good experience.
Service was so-so. Nothing special. The price of some of the items is a little steep for what it is. The charcuterie prices are something you’d find at a top end restaurant, and this doesn’t really fit the bill, although they claim it’s their specialty. Entrees are good, but not great. Wine selection is decent. Not a bad place to go, but there’s better for the same cost or less. Probably wouldn’t go back.
We both really enjoyed Mezzo and the food and quality of the service. The only disappointing thing is that we originally wanted to go to the meatball place downstairs. So, upon typing in Sienna Mercato and the option to make a reservation, i thought that's where we were making it for. Once we arrived we were told that our reservation was for upstairs. It's a bit frustrating typing in the restaurant and only being able to make the reservation for Mezzo but that not being specified.
I have been to Mezzo many times, and it continues to be my favorite restaurant in Pittsburgh. All of the food was phenomenal, and the signature cocktails were unique and tasty. Service was great and the noise level was quieter than usual. This was another excellent experience and I look forward to returning.
There is something so fabulously delicious about the food here. We were celebrating my friend’s birthday and had a great time.
Fabulous food! Loved the small and medium plates to share! Charcuterie board was fantastic.
Excellent restaurant in the Cultural District. The charcuterie plate was phenomenal! Service was attentive, well educated on the menu and very welcoming. I would highly recommend this establishment! We will be going back soon!
Everything was great! Started off with the Mezza mules, they were perfect. Then followed with the chef selection charcuterie tray. It was explained to us well and tasted excellent. The capicola pizza was so good! Followed by the chocolate crema. 5 stars! Great for something different for date night! Unfortunately it was raining so the windows weren’t open. Will return on a cool summer night to experience that.
We had a meatball appetizer downstairs in the Mercato. Terrific! Then upstairs to Mezzo. The atmosphere was lovely. The service outstanding. And, the food to die for. We had the squid ink pappardelle with crab, outstanding. And, the duck speck pizza, yummy! We highly recommend Mezzo.
Good food and excellent service. Drinks were also good.
Bread was delicious!
Shrimp small plate also delicious, great flavors.
Pizzas disappointing: Eggplant was so salty we ended up taking it off the pizza. We didn't care for the flavor of the sauce. Quattro formaggio had way too much cheese. The crusts were very good.
My friend and I dined here before seeing a show at the Benedum. We loved the option of combining small plates with a pizza to share a meal. Everything was fantastic! We had the burrata, arancini, and the chicken sausage pizza and I am already trying to plan my next visit to get those things again! I love the variety of wine options (at great price points).
Our waiter asked if we were celebrating anything and we mentioned we were going to a show - he verified that our show started at 7:30 (we had a 6pm reservation) and he paced our meal so that we had plenty of time to enjoy ourselves and still make it to the show on time!
I do wish happy hour extended past 6 (at least 5-7?) but other than that this is a great choice!
Dinner with a business group was terrific. We were all visiting Pittsburgh for a conference and Mezzo was recommended to us, happy to recommend to others. While the dinner menu has upscale foodie entrees, the pizza is outstanding as well. Casual and relaxed atmosphere.
Service by Clint was prompt and courteous.
This place is nice, the ambience is cute, but I think food is kind of overprice. Pizza is really good and the lemon semifreddo was delicious. Other than that, service was kind of poor, and the appetizer selected for the chef in my opinion is not worth it the price for the amount.
A great place to share food with friends. Kind of noisy, though!
I made reservations for my daughter's 18th Birthday, and said on my open table reservation that it was her birthday. First of all it was never acknowledged when we arrived that it was her birthday, and we were seated at a very small table that was practically touching the table beside us. The person at the next table was extremely loud, and listened to everything we said. Therefore, we did not talk during dinner. Secondly, they took a salad off their menu that my daughter really liked. When the wait staff suggested another salad, she asked if they could not put the pesto on it. She was told that unless she had allergies to it, that the chef would not make it without the pesto! Finally, because it was her birthday, we planned on ordering dessert. However, since they were busy and wanted our table, we were abruptly handed our check without being asked if we wanted anything else. Therefore, we left, and went somewhere else for dessert. The pizza was perfect as usual, but the entire experience was disappointing, and I'm not sure that I will go back. She had talked about that dinner for over a week, and was not happy that she could not have her meal the way she wanted it, and would prefer to eat without being rushed.
We had excellent meals at Mezzo before the opera on Friday. The burratta and baby kale salads were very fresh and flavorful. The agnolotti dish was very unique with a marscapone and dried fruit filling. We also enjoyed the very flavorful lamb bolognese and the linguine were hits with my husband and son. We also enjoyed the excellent wine options to accompany the food.
A wonderful dinner, as always at Mezzo. All three of us had the Lamb Bolognese, which was amazing! Attentive service without being intrusive, great bread choices in the basket for the table. Fantastic dessert choices and a nice setting for catching up with friends.
Seafood Rissotto Amazing
Emily was amazing. Lisa I think was the runners name who brought over our charcuterie board was amazing. I ate too much. Wish I had room for dessert.
Nosey. Plenty of room, yet people set beside us. Menu items just didn't go together. Server was good.
Overall the experience was positive. The food was great and our waiter was awesome! However, the staff at the hostess stand was rude, unfriendly and acted inexplicably put upon during their interactions with us. It made for a negative first and last impression.
I do not know what changes were made from the last time I came here, but after a dozen dining experiences this one was bad enough I highly doubt I will return. Waitress was aloof, at best. Ignored my food allergy and what I requested not be on my order (peppers). My partner's meal came out raw, took almost 20 minutes to be finished cooking. By the time I was able to inform the waitress of the mistake on my meal, it had sat for near 20 minutes. I picked off the peppers because I was starving, throat swelled a bit because peppers seeds were beneath the cheese apparently. When she FINALLY felt like hearing the issue, she argued that I requested for the peppers (no one requests a topping that comes on the item normally) and then pointed out that 'yes, they are there, why?". She never brought over a manager, didn't even offer an apology and I highly doubt I will be back.
Mezzo, undo whatever staffing/organization changes you did in the last 2-3 months, you failed and I will not return until I believe I can dine safely and with decent food quality.
My family, boyfriend and I absolutely loved Mezzo! The food was extremely unique and delicious and our waitress was willing to answer any questions or concerns that we had about the menu. Definitely recommend sharing a few "Large" dishes from the menu. Beautiful restaurant. We will definitely visit again soon.
Lively atmosphere, friendly service. Can recommend the octopus and grilled shrimp appetizers and the margharita pizza. Nice spot for a date or dinner with friends.
I'm avoiding gluten and dairy. When I made my order, I was advised that 1 part of my meal contained both gluten and dairy. When I asked if I could substitute something, I was told no with no sorrow. There was really nothing else that could be offered to me in place of the chic pea cake? Also, the size of the chicken was nice, but I did not get very many root vegetables with my meal. I didn't understand why they couldn't have offered me more of the root vegetables in place of the chic pea cake. Our waitress was not entirely attentive or helpful.
Really enjoy the atmosphere and the food. We arrived a half an hour early and were still able to he seated. We really appreciated the app and being able to place our reservations online. We will go back again!
The food was awesome, shared different dishes with a table of three. Drinks were delicious, I'll be going back soon!
