I had spotted Mexique years ago and finally had the occasion to go with my husband for our anniversary. It was a cold winter night and the restaurant had only a few tables with customers.
We had a ceviche and quesadilla negra as appetizers, then Mole verde (with monkfish) and Pato al tamarindo as main dishes. Everything was absolutely delicious, and also beautifully presented without being absurdly fancy. Service was impeccable and very friendly.
The restaurant may suffer from its location, away from trendy neighborhoods, but it is in our opinion a plus, people should check away from the crowded places where it is too often impossible to talk or listen to anyone, much less to savor really good dishes!
The decor is modern but with warm colors, very welcoming. Also, the music selection was of incredibly high quality (Yves Montand, Madeleine Peyroux...). We will come back!

Awesome ambiance. Carlos Gaytan knows how to develop great depth of flavors. Savory, spicy, sweet, all there without one ingredient overpowering the others. Prepare your palate for a very rewarding culinary experience. If you’re thinking about it, stop thinking and go. You will not be disappointed.
This is an amazing restaurant! We enjoyed delicious and beautifully arranged food, great service, pleasant atmosphere! We will definitely come again!
Lovely Friday evening with friends at Mexique. Food was delicious, unusual and fresh and complex.
Mexique was WONDERFUL! We had a lovely time and the service was impeccable. The chef/owner was there greeting diners and was personally checking each dish as it left the kitchen window. I HIGHLY recommend Mexique...absolutely superb!
Delicious flavors with nice textures and nice presentation. Pastries are OK. Service was descent and food came out in good time. I would definitely go back.
This was my first time, but certainly not my last visit to Mexique. I loved the food options and the creativity. I enjoyed every dish, but my favorite was the posole! Absolutely amazing food. Cannot wait to go back.
This by far is one of the best restaurants in Chicago , the food was delicious, service was outstanding, the best part was the chef Carlos Gaytán was very attentive making sure everyone had an amazing experience. I would recommend this restaurant to all my friends
