Between the two of them, Mark and Matt of Metropolis have over 30 years of restaurant experience in Corolla, and they pride themselves on making your experience at Metropolis a memorable one. Open year round for dinner. Metropolis is a favorite of locals and those in the restaurant industry.
Come and see what so many people are talking about. Metropolis...just like in "the city"...but better!
Great food, wonderful service, and great atmosphere. Highly recommend this spot for a dinner date!
Drove all the way from Kill Devil Hills on a friends recommendation. We joked that we hoped it would be worth it. The service was amazing as was the food. We shared a bunch of small plates.
Great. Interesting menu with lots of choices. Loved it!
Great food. Enjoyed all dishes. The ambiance is lacking and the space is noisy. Server was delightful as was the hostess. Drinks were great but pricey.
Everything we ordered was cooked and seasoned to perfection. We had the ham and Brie cigarillos, the scallops, the seared tuna, and an oyster mushroom risotto special. Loved every bite.
We enjoyed every bite of our dinner. The soup special was cream of asparagus with crabmeat and truffle oil finish. It was one of the best soups I’ve ever had. The monte Cristo spring rolls were creative and delicious. It was the perfect size to enjoy the taste without being overwhelmed with the large sandwich size that is typically served elsewhere. The saffron mushroom risotto was divine. It was the best risotto and we wish it was added to the everyday menu. We also enjoyed eating in a beautiful dining room. Just because we are at the beach doesn’t mean we enjoy dining in shack like environments while on vacation. Our waiter was efficient and well timed with each course and the check. We will definitely be back.
Metropolis is one of those rare gems that you never expect to find when searching for shells at the beach. The ambiance is chic, relaxed and elegant. Like drinking a martini on the beach. Most importantly, the food is exquisite. I would put Mark's cuisine up against the best chefs in New York. Between the food/drink menu and the atmosphere, Metropolis has become one of our favorites, anywhere. We always eat there twice when taking a week in Corolla.
Outstanding and creative food. We couldn't decide which dish was our favorite since they were all so good. This place is a real gem.
Excellent food and service. Strange it wasn’t full as it was some of our best food on the OBX!
Good drink pour, excellent tapas, wait personnel were outstanding. Very good experience.
Great food on the Outer Banks. Nice for a break from cooking in - and the food is more creative than most.
This is our go to restaurant in the Duck/Corolla area. The food is excellent and they always have amazing specials. Service is outstanding.
We had several courses shared between the three of us, and they were all delicious; the asparagus and crab soup was incredibly good. My only complaint was the steak kebabs were a bit tough and undercooked.
Metropolis is always high on our list. Lots of nice menu changes for the season, ham and Brie spring rolls, angel hair pasta and shrimp, excellent oyster mushroom risotto. Drinks excellent, service excellent and attentive. If you like a dry crisp white, try the Albariño. A must go while on vacation at the OBX. We live year round and go year round.
Our group had a great time! Enough variety to please everyone and excellent service. I've heard the chef sometimes comes out to mingle with the guests but we did not see him. We tried most of the posted specials, which were delicious, as was the cream of asparagus soup and crab cakes. Would definitely recommend for a date night.
Very interesting tapas menu with smaller and larger plates. It is also a martini bar with all kinds of fruity additions if you like that sort of thing. We had beefeaters rocks and they were as you would expect and of reasonable size. Asparagus soup to start was excellent.
Tastiest food I have ever had at the OBX. Been visiting here for 6 summers and no place comes close. Every bite was bursting with flavor. The splendid cocktails paired perfectly with the variety of tapas we ate. Chef Mark's jambalaya was the best of the best. Will be returning soon.
Food was not as expected, some of the dishes had zero taste.
Five of us went on a Monday night during our vacation in Corolla. Delicious food and drink and great service. Would definitely go again.
We went to Metropolis with another couple. We thoroughly enjoyed the Tapas because we got to try things we would not necessarily order if it were just the two of us.
Terrific menu both for food and cocktails. Wait staff and bar tender were superb and fun. Love the tapas approach and great specials too. Will definitely be back. One of the best finds in OBX.
We’ve been here each year over 4 years. This time the food quality was much lower. Still good, but not great as before. For these prices and dip in food quality we’ll probably pass next year.
My friend and I found this marvelous restaurant a while ago and fell in love!
The asparagus soup is to die for and I really liked the peach martini.
We were so impressed last time that I purchased “ Chefs of the Coast” -restaurants & recipes from the
North Carolina Coast!
To all, keep up the good work and we will see you next season!
Friendly Staff explaining the flexible ordering giving you the ability to try many different dishes. Food was great and both Mark and Matt were also in the house making sure we enjoyed our visit. Let me also say the cocktails are creative and tasty! Overall a great experience. We are looking forward to visiting again on our next trip to Corolla.
Amazing meal! Highly recommend. Small plates were well prepared. Must try the asparagus soup. Will definitely return.
As you would expect: the opportunity to enjoy various tasty bites with a pal is something to embrace. We loved your asparagus soup and crab cakes! Also yummy: bowtie pasta with mushrooms and parmesan sauce. Monte Christo plate was ok. I think dicing the ham and using swiss cheese instead of brie would make my palate happier. We savored your creative bar drinks. Servers were attentive and genuinely concerned we were enjoying our selections. Looking forward to returning during our next trip in a year or so!
Great food and friendly environment
been coming here for many years now for our anniversary every July... I am grateful for the late open kitchen as we go typically at 9/9:30 pm to avoid crowds...we had another great experience this past Friday night
Food was excellent. Portions were small and pricey, but this was expected — and the taste, presentation and overall appeal were all on point. The drink selection was imaginative and the drinks were well-made, but each round took longer and longer to arrive. It was a busy night, and they could have used an extra bartender. The food was well-timed, and our server did her best to keep us updated about the status of our drinks. Overall, a nice night out.
The food was delicious but it was way too loud. The crowd was. It young but nonetheless the music and ambient noise meant one had to scream to be heard. The service was adequate given that we were a large group. The server gave more attention to the men but she misjudged who was paying the bill.
Food was delicious! Waitstaff very friendly and quick to serve. Would recommend a reservation in advance as the restaurant is on the small side. Appears to have open bar non reserved seating, but need to show up before 6 to guarantee a spot!
Great as always
Everything was great. All the sauces for the dishes were amazing. Cool atmosphere. Lots of fun drinks to choose from. Would go back!
Great place. We always est here when in the Outer Banks. Great restaurant..
This was our second time within a week. While they suggested trying 2 dishes per person, we were prepared this time with a larger group to sample more dishes. Everything was very pretty and very tasty! The signature passion fruit and jalapeno margarita were yummy! The asparagus soup with crab and the oyster mushroom cream sauce with bowtie pasta were my favorites. I highly recommend a visit! We ended up at about $45 per person including the margarita, tax and tip.
We dined at Metropolis for our 29th wedding anniversary while on vacation in Corolla, NC. Our entire experience was wonderful. The staff was very attentive and gracious. This is a Tapas restaurant so be prepared for small portions. The Chef's created some wonderful flavor combinations in the various dishes. We order many of them. The Crab Cakes were amazing. The charcuterie plate was fabulous. The “Monte Cristo” Cigarillos..Ham & Brie Spring Rolls w/ Powdered Sugar & Strawberry Sauce were our favorite. The Pan Seared Local Jumbo Scallops were perfectly seared and melt in your mouth delicious.
We ordered several Martini's and they were wonderful; very well balanced.
Great menu, interesting dishes. Everything we ate was delicious. Service was wonderful. We’ll be back!
One of the best restaurants on the outer banks. Food is great and the drinks were delicious. Am definitely going back!
Enjoyed a selection of Tapas and the house made soup was outstanding. Being from just outside NYC, I did not expect to see NYC pricing for cocktails on the shoulder season on OBX! Tapas while pricey were absolutely top-notch as was the peach cocktails we ordered. Location/ambiance is very average....think upscale strip mall!
Everything was great! Service was efficient and food was outstanding! We consider this restaurant a hidden gem in the Outer Banks. In addition to the tapas pictured we had the escargot (so tender) and quail (which was served with a wasabi-ginger slaw, on its own the slaw would have satisfied us as a separate plate - excellent flavor and very fresh).
This was our second visit and exceeded our expectations. We will be back next time we visit OBX!
