Poor service, we were seated about 10 minutes before a server came by and tried to leave someone else’s food at our table. When we explained no one had taken our order she walked away. She came back a few minutes later and without any welcome or greeting abruptly asked if we were ready to order, which we did. We never saw this server again but at least 6 others delivered our food(cold) and drinks randomly throughout our meal. No one asked if we had everything we needed or if our food was okay. It was an unexpectedly terrible experience.
One of our favorite "date-night" spots. Wonderful food that's fresh and "innovative" while still being flat-out delicious. The service is warm, prompt, and professional, but never obsequious. Great atmosphere that is warm and inviting while having a "hip" vibe with the changing contemporary art. It is a great value for the quality of the food / service and the overall experience. I'd highly recommend.
Also, they are great about remembering any food sensitivities and making recommendations based on our needs. They hit every note perfectly.
It’s too bad that the waitstaff isn’t as exciting and fabulous as the chef or the art at the 21c. From the hostess stand to the coat check and on to the abundant 20-30-something waitstaff, all behaved like sullen, bored and awkward jr high kids. No one was anywhere near versed on the food they were serving and appeared totally disinterested at answering any menu questions. When pressed, our waitress stood behind my date’s shoulder and read her the printed description of the salmon entree. Maybe help is hard to come by, but if I️ were the chef, I’d fire the lot of them and start over since they are the face of his great vision and food. Truly, they were bad enough to keep me from coming back.
We sat at a table for two and were accompanied by a 4’ yellow plastic penguin. Yes, that’s right. It was quirky and fun. First, we ordered a charcuterie plate. It was made up of a great selection of meats, cheeses and accompaniments. I️ wished the chef had taken more pride in showing off these morsels by providing more than 2 paper-thin slices of salami and one bite cheeses. I’m still questioning the Grippo’s seasoning on the salami but maybe that’s a Westside thing, too. Next, we ordered the salmon and chicken entrees. They were plentiful and came with a variety of grains and roasted vegetables. Also noteworthy was the earthy, seed-filled rustic bread and smoked butter that was brought to the table. Heavenly!
One final note about the service, as the meal went on, we were approached on all sides by 4 or 5 awkward/shy/uncomfortable waitstaff who wanted to clear plates we were still eating from, reaching across our dinner plates shuffling things around. It wasn’t necessary. The waitress appeared at the beginning, when we tried to order the charcuterie plate. She dismissed that idea and told us we had to order everything at once. She then took drink orders, brought them and then disappeared for over an hour, returning to give us the bill. Chef = A+. Staff = F
Sorry, but this isn’t going to be a very good review. I generally don’t leave bad reviews, but this was handled so poorly, it’s worth mentioning.
Was seated in front of kitchen, which we could tell would be very loud as soon as we were seated. Reservations for 5 guests at 5:30 to give us ample time to get to the show, So kitchen wasn’t that busy yet. After our drinks arrived, we mentioned how loud it was, I couldn’t hear the people sitting 2 chairs away, was there anything the waiter could do? He mentioned that people request sitting at that table, which was kind of hard to believe why you’d pay that price and listen to the noise and yelling. We asked a couple questions of the menu and the attitude started. I’ve noticed a few other reviews that mentioned they felt the staff was a bit aloof and that was definitely the impression that was given. Food arrived and it was fine. At the end of the dinner, 4 of the 5 of us were finished eating, 1 of our group was still finishing and several waiters came to clear the table& wipe it off, which gave us the impression we were being rushed out of the restaurant. Before the bill was presented the waiter says, I hope everything was to your liking and we mentioned the food was good, but the noise level was unbearable. We were told “to let it go!”which Didn’t go over well, needless to say. Coincidentally, as we were paying the bill, another group was seated at the table next to us, and requested to be moved due to the noise level. Luckily the show saved the evening. We dined here when they first opened and we figured to have a few bumps but would give them another chance. Unfortunately the second chance was worse.
We stayed at 21c Hotel. our first night we decided to eat at Metropole...best decision ever! The cauliflower soup was really yummy, the beet salad was fantastic, the lemon chicken was great! the wine selection was good and the service, on a really busy theater night, was excellent. oh and the dessert cheese plate....heavenly!!! well worth every penny!
We had a terrific meal, from start to finish. Wait staff was pleasant and helpful, explaining the charcuterie and some other interesting menu items. Food was uniquely presented and delicious; we tried duck breast and pork chop. Loved the cotton candy ending.
The food was so creative and I really enjoyed everything edible! The ambiance though was a bit challenging. I didn't like sitting at a table so close to others and felt that I had to raise my voice just to be heard but didn't want to raise my voice because of the table right next to me. I also felt the chairs were a little too tall compared to the table height.
We weren't impressed, but I really wanted to like it.
The most fun thing about our dinner was the large yellow plastic penguins which were so out of place, it lightened up the ambience. Also the lemon cotton candy with our bill was delicious. It was my husband's birthday and they brought out macaroons, which were subpar, but it was nice they did it.
Our server had a tendency to try to upsell with everything we ordered, pressuring us to order more than we asked for. He seemed annoyed that 2 of us didn't want to order a starter and asked multiple times, suggesting multiple items.
On the other hand, I only had 1 glass of wine and was never asked if I wanted another one.
The service overall wasn't good.
I ordered a cheese and meat plate and was very disappointed with the amount of cheese I got, especially for how expensive it was. I ordered 5 items and only received 4.
The food was O.K... which you really don't want to say after you've spent so much money on the meal.
We're foodies and really enjoy trying new things and yummy foods, but there were literally only 6 entree choices and maybe 3 or 4 side items. If you decide to eat here, make sure you view their menu on their website (not from Open table because it's different). You may change your mind once you see the choices.
The art on the way to the restroom was fun! It's cool that it's in a museum and you can walk around and look at art.
Overall, I wouldn't ever waste my money here again. And I wouldn't recommend it to anyone either.
The service was excellent. The cocktails were not to our taste of 5 drinkers who typically are very open to interesting cocktails. The desserts were excellent and the meat eaters at our table were very happy with their selections. Two of us ordered the tofu and found it creative but boring.
Excellent service, but the food did not live up to expectations. The duck was served medium, but was quite chewy. The cabernet chocolate cake was dry (the server graciously removed it from the bill). The first cocktail was made incorrectly, and was sent back to be replaced. The roast squash side dish was quite dull. To give them some credit, the roast cauliflower was divine and the butter cake was phenomenal. Would love to give them more props because the service was fabulous and the decor is great, but will not be returning.
