Metropole @ 21c Museum Hotel
My wife and I celebrated our 2nd wedding anniversary with dinner at Metropole. The food and service was amazing!
My wife had a caramelized onions soup that was bland, very watery and could barely taste the onion. I had a burnt carrot salad: better than her soup. Those were the starters. As the entree for the brunch, she had bread pudding, and I consumed a salmon toast, which was very salty.
This place continues to have so much potential but seems to always fail short. Our latest trip was for Mother's Day brunch, and it was underwhelming. My son's pancake was undercooked, and the rest of the food was mediocre at best. Moreover, the service was not memorable either. In fact, when I went into the restaurant to meet my family, the host sort of looked at me strange when I told him my family was already seated. It was not a welcoming experience. This restaurant was completely different when it opened several years ago. Now, it seems like it is just an afterthought to the hotel. There are better dining experiences in Cincinnati.
I am so sorry we failed to live up to expectations. Our food should always be cooked perfectly, be delicious with warm, attentive service and we obviously failed in multipe ways that day. I would love to extend an invite for your family to return with our compliments and maybe we can win our way back into your hearts. Please reach out to me whenever you would like. It was a delicious brunch but for the prefix price of $30/person I think it should have included more. Only coffee/tea or soda to drink felt like not great brunch options. Plus do better Metropole... There's no where to change my child's diaper. Both the men's room AND women's room should both have an available changing table. I instead had to use the bench in the public hallway outside the bathrooms.
Every time I come here it’s such a fun experience. And the food!!! AMAZING!!!
We love the food, ambience and service! And the art.
We had an excellent pre-show brunch! Our server, Kurt, was very kind and attentive. Our food was delicious. We ordered a side of turkey goetta but the kitchen wasn't happy with how it turned out so they comped another of our sides which we appreciated. I couldn't finish my meal but the staff was kind enough to store it for me until after the show! It was our first time and we will be back!
Our experience for dinner at Metropole prior to our show at the Aronoff was great. The food was excellent. I had duck and my wife pork. Our server, Jeremy was knowledgeable and passed the meal just right.
I have eaten at Metropole 3 times. This is the first time that my meal was totally unacceptable. I ordered the salmon. It was suppose to have been cooked medium and it was medium rare too rare. The snap peas were not cooked. I have had salmon there all three times and the salmon was cooked medium and so was the snap peas. The waitress seemed to be inexperienced. I understand it takes wait staff time to get polished but when a member of our party asked about the cost of salmon added to a salad she didn't know and brought the salad with salmon to the table for her entree without finding out the cost. She was very friendly but not trained well. Prices for the food is on the high side. We are fully aware of this but go to Metropole for the ambience, good food and professional service. Sadly, this experience did not meet our expectations. There are many other restaurants we can visit to get our expectations met.
Love the vibe and so easy before going to the Aronoff
Incredible meal with incredible service. 11/10 would recommend.
This was our second time here - and it was not nearly as enjoyable as our first. Waiter was dull, unenthusiastic, came to our table after we’d been sitting for over 10 minutes. Ordered two burgers - so so so so salty. Pretty much not edible. Won’t be returning.
Limited menu, and food was mediocre at best. Despite many guests leaving halfway through our meal for a show across the street, the server was not incredibly friendly nor attentive. I did enjoy the yellow penguins, but there are many other better options for dining in downtown.
Service was slow due to a large private event upstairs. Hard flooring contributes to a loud ambiance. Food was average but not worthy of price.
The wait staff was most attentive. The food was excellent.
My husband and I again enjoyed our dinner at the Metropole, this time before going to the ballet. My husband had the trout and said it was delicious and cooked just right. I had the mushroom toast. Being a mushroom lover, the mushroom flavor came through and the variety of mushrooms was much better than the usual white or portabella. The ricotta is a swipe not a heavy layer. My only suggestion is a different greens accompaniment. Might be my taste, but I thought they clashed with the dish. Finally, I am a non drinker. The blueberry shrub is delicious.
This was my first time at Metropole and wow, did they deliver! We were waited on hand and foot. Every time our water or wine glass got low, someone was there already refilling it. As soon as we finished with a plate or utensil, it was instantly removed from the table. The strip loin and the sauce on it was absolutely delicious. The Metropole candy bar dessert was out of this world. I have never experienced such amazing and quick service, or such tasty food. I only wish I got to eat with a yellow penguin!! We will definitely be back in the future!
Lovely experience... the food is amazing, the service was great, and the museum adds to it all! All around great experience
Great food and rhe treat solo diners well!
The place is known for its Burnt Carrot Salad... For the second time in as many visits we had to send it back as it came WITHOUT any avacado. Both times our out of town guest was disappointed. How can you mess with your signature dish! Serve was slow as well.
Probably our favorite restaurant in Cincy! Unique menu, excellent service, and enjoyable atmosphere in a great location. They made our anniversary night extra special!
We came for Easter Brunch and had an enjoyable meal. The restaurant is pleasing and I always enjoy viewing the artwork in the lobby. I did not, however, love my meal. I had the breakfast burrito and found it greasy. Others in the group had salmon toast and the burger. Everything was a bit greasy. We ordered pop tarts that were very good. I keep coming back for the ambiance but keep hoping to enjoy the food just a little more.
It was the first time we had eaten at the Metropole and we were very pleased with our dining experience. David, our waiter, was attentive and knowledgeable about the menu. We had appetizers, drinks, and the main courses (I highly recommend the salmon). Overall a wonderful meal; we'll definitely return!
We have eaten here before. This was the first time with the new head chef. Overall, it was just ok. The cheese on the charcuterie was dry and tasteless, but the condiments were very good. We both had the mushroom gravy over toast for a vegetarian dinner. The server would do well to let you know this is a HUGE piece of bread ( think large ribeye size) with mushrooms, cheese and gravy on it. While it tasted good, it would be better served as a shareable appetizer by paring down the size. No one could eat all the bread and it became redundant to eat it all. I’m not saying it was a bad meal, it just wasn’t good overall.
Always a treat to share a meal at Metropole!
Inventive and satiating food to fulfill a variety of tastes. The burnt carrot salad is an adventure in food wonderland that should be tried.
Great experience. Going to a show at the Aronoff and everyone took great care of us. Food and atomshpere excellent! !!
Excellent food and services
I had high hopes after enjoying a delicious pre dinner cocktail- the Woo girl cocktail was delicious. Hopes were still high when I got my kale salad. It was tasty. The Coppa steak had much more fat than meat, a pretty ridiculous amount of fat. The flavor was good, but not much of it was edible. And then I found a hair in my food. I didn’t expect that at a restaurant of this caliber, but I guess it can happen anywhere. Management was nice and comped my dinner for that. They offered me another entree but we had time constraints and had to leave for a show. We still managed to spend a lot of money.
The restaurant was slightly crowded and quite noisy. Not a place for an intimate quiet dinner. Acoustics seem to increase the noise.
Show at the arnoff theater
This was a last minute date dinner for my wife and I. Neither had been before but are always looking for new places to check out. With very little expectations purely, because of ignorance, we arrived. Greeted by a greasy haired host in jeans and a t-shirt, and sat by an equally represented hostess.
Our server, Jerrod, was the high point of the evening. He was very well presented and knowledgeable.
Food was nothing to brag about. My wife liked her salad the best, and nothing was extraordinary from my selection.
The atmosphere was catchy, but I was surprised by the 'hipster' quality...
We had fun inspite of not being 'in love' with Metropole, but probably won't be back.
Hello Adam, I am sorry that your recent visit to us was not a great first impression. Happy to hear that Jeremy took great care of you but the greeting at door, food and service should have combined to make a memorable evening. We would love to have you back as our guests so you can experience Metropole as we hoped you would have. I loved the atmosphere and the food quality was perfect. Our server was as sweet
We had a show to catch and the server was very rude and said some rather offensive comments. I ordered the salmon and he said I had to switch to the rainbow trout bc it was faster. I took his suggestion and the meal was horrible. It tasted so fishy that my stomach still churns at the thought of it. I would have rather waited for the salmon. I clearly made a bad choice listening to him. I had eaten hear before with a very pleasant experience so I was disappointed that I did not have that on this occasion.
Great food, excellent service. The art exhibits next door are very nice. Three of us had dinner on a Wednesday night -- there were a lot of diners there. The noise level was very high and we couldn't converse well. They moved us to a more quiet place (very much appreciated) but even there the noise level was high. Lots of hard surfaces in the restaurant off from which the sound reverberates.
Service was great food was bland nothing special
The food is not good
The food was delicious and service was excellent! The lemon flavored cotton candy that accompanied our bill was a delightful surprise.
Will definitely go back.
Really enjoyed the service and food for Sunday Brunch. We wanted something different and unique for my family as we were celebrating two birthdays. The service is wonderful. Our waiter was on top of it and did a brilliant job, bring clean cutlery and drinks. The food is also really good. While it isn’t a ‘serve yourself’ brunch, there is a great selection of choices from the menu.
All great! Perfect event.
