Metro! - Permanently Closed Ratings and Reviews
Special occasion with old friends. Was recommended by a local in our party. Arrived at 6:30 reservation and no other customers showed up until 8pm on a Thursday (??). Server Kate was good and adorable for sure. Food...hair in burger, sea bass dry and had small bones. Goombay Smash was very good. Khachapuri appetizer was good and recommended. Did I mention Kate was adorable!
Food was overall very good. The server was brand new and he knew nothing about the food so that was difficult. When someone came to assist they couldn't answer most of our questions either
The names of the dishes were not explained so you had to ask what it was , how it was prepared and the ingredients
Probably won't make a return visit
Metro! is a trendy restaurant with inspired cuisine. The food was prepared and served with a flair, great flavors and presentation. The late night thumping music made conversation difficult but the volume was the only issue. Service was okay - again, the loud music made communication a challenge.
1st timer, on a rainy Thursday. The staff were very friendly, a few of which were trainees. Ever attentive and on-time to offer their service all meal long. The food was very tasty! The charred cauliflower was so good! The sashimi was like silk and the sushi rolls were big and very good! We really enjoyed ourselves and would certainly look forward to going back!
My husband and I are new to the area, and I chose to go to Metro! for my birthday mostly based on the menu. The restaurant was nicely lit and decorated, and I liked their seating. I was a little surprised how empty the place was for a Saturday night (about 7pm).
The food was fairly good. We ordered roasted oysters and pork belly spring rolls to share. My husband had roasted lamb shank and I had a Cesar salad and she crab soup. The oysters were quite salty, and I was surprised by the amount of topping. (I always think of roasted oysters as being fairly simple, and these had a lot of breadcrumb. Almost more like a Rockefeller to me.) The lamb was well cooked and we could tell that it had a complex flavor, but the amount of pepper almost overwhelmed the rest. The salad was excellent. (I love anchovies and capers.) And the soup was very rich and tasty.
I was disappointed with the service. Our waiter seemed very casual and kind of lackadaisical. In such a nice place, I was expecting more enthusiasm. I had to ask multiple times for more water and Coke. However, we also interacted with the hostess and at least one other person (manager? waitress?) and they were both extremely pleasant.
Ultimately, I may go back to try their brunch. The menu looked good, and brunch is more casual. But I won't waste another birthday dinner here, and it won't be on my "go to" list for date nights.
I've been eating at Metro! for about 13 years, but today's Easter Brunch was the first time I've been disappointed. We sat at our favorite table, close enough to hear the wheels come off in the kitchen. The first attempt at making our scallops apparently failed and the second didn't go much better; one order was perfect but the other was wrong in several ways. Too bad, as the scallops themselves were beautiful. Waiting 30 minutes for a poorly done plate of scallops was a bit much.
The shanks and eggs was a spectacular dish but the sauce on my sweetbreads and eggs was much too salty and dense for a spring dish, even though it included a large portion of sweetbreads and perfectly poached eggs. And the main course arrived while the scallops were still on the table.
The bread pudding dessert was excellent and service was spot-on. I was given a $10 discount although no one mentioned this to me, I just saw the reduction on the bill.
None of this will prevent me from returning to Metro! as we still had a pretty nice time. Kitchens stumble on occasion but this is the first time I've seen it happen here.
We had a nice experience at Metro! Clay, our server was very accommodating. When we arrived our table was set, with a high chair for my sisters daughter. Our food seemed to take longer than normal to arrive, but we didn't have anywhere in particular to be so it wasn't a big deal. My sister had to leave early with the baby and Clay wrapped her meal up for her to eat later.
Food and drinks were excellent as usual. The only concern I had was the waiter setting my food down at the adjacent table.
He was not certain where it went and instead of taking my food to kitchen he set it down at the adjacent occupied table. I accepted the food because I saw it and it was not touched. Concerns me now where my food might be placed in the future.
This place really had potential, but has some major issues. Stick to raw (sushi, oysters, etc.) if you decide to go, but don't order anything that's cooked. My pork chop was so dry I couldn't actually eat it. We also had a new (extremely nervous) server who we had to keep prompting to do basic things like take our order, or come to our table instead of hiding around the corner while talking to us. The alcohol selection was awful too. Overall, don't waste your time.
The food was good, and the portions were nice. The waitress was attentive, but she was a bit awkward (would hover without saying anything and then tell us she was listening in to our conversation, trying to push another round of cocktails, etc.). Other than that, we have no complaints!
Thanks so much Metro and our server Kate for another wonderful evening of food and fun! We enjoyed it with our grandchildren and found that Metro accommodated them with grace and friendliness..they thought it very special to dine out like adults! We will be back!
Another great dining experience! A casual dinner with friends was completely satisfying. The service was impeccable, food quality and portions were perfect, and the ambiance and dining environment cozy and inviting. We stayed for an espresso and then headed upstairs for the live music and energetic bar scene complete with cocktails. A great night! Thanks Metro!
The food and drinks here were top-notch. However, we sat upstairs (terrible setting - dilapidated, ceiling crumbling, has not received attention in what looks like decades) and the air conditioning system blew straight across our table for most of the meal. We had to wear our jackets for most of the dinner and the wind from the registers actually blew out our candle. Our waiter was nowhere to be found so we had to check out with the host. We were over-billed for drinks once we saw our bill. We won't be back - recommend Table 50, Lucky, or Nawab for a positive experience.
The food is good but the decor not so much. The inside of Metro looks like it has not been updated or cleaned since it was first opened more than 10 years ago. Even the the "low light trick" is employed it is easy to see the layer of dust and grime everywhere. The condition of the restaurant is a shame because it distracts from what is really good food with a menu that has terrific variety. This place needs a good power washing--on the inside.
Our last night of dining after six weeks on the road. Quite a surprise. The menu was very creative, many items developed by the chef. The only problem was that we could not go back again, headed north the next day. There were at least five more choices I would like to try. We did spend one week in New Orleans dining in some of our favorite spots, and this place is there equal. One of my favorite meals of the trip!
Server was not very cordial, seemed like he was rushing us. We were there at 6:00 not busy at all. We had Sushi and it was very fair at best. My wife had a lemon drop and it was in the smallest glass I have ever seen. Overall disappointed in our experience and have had better meals and service there before.
Anniversary/Valentines Day! The service was amazing, the food was great but they did not advertise that they had a special menu with a fixed price per person which made the value of the food more than what you typically pay for it! But it was worth the experience!
