MET Back Bay
Brought my girlfriend here hoping for a romantic dinner overlooking Newbury St. It took 15-20 minutes for the server to take our drink order, and even longer to come back to check in for food. We ordered 2 French Onion Soups and it took almost an hour to get to the table. The soups arrived and were not edible due to their salt content and had to be sent back. We got the check and left before ordering dinner
Hello ConnorM I am very sorry that this was your experience. I appreciate the feedback and am looking into this issue at this moment so we can prevent what went wrong here in the future. I fully understand your disappointment, and would like the opportunity to make it up to you to win you back as a fan. Please reach out to me directly. Sincerely, Matt Dix, GM
Our waitress was comical and welcoming. Her suggestions were truthful respectful and spot on.
Visiting Boston on a very busy Saturday afternoon, I had made a reservation of 3 people at 12:30. The reservation was for inside dining but the weather outside was brilliant and Met Back Bay has exceptional outdoor dining, unfortunately with its own sign in set-up. Luckily, we were seated immediately. They were great, especially considering one of the three of us was caught in traffic and showed up almost an hour late. Tony, our waiter, was super. Tony kept our glasses of soft drinks filled and suggested a good starter for the two of us to enjoy while we awaited our third. They serve only a somewhat limited brunch menu but there was certainly something for everything to select. We all had a great time and Tony was justly rewarded. We are former Bostonians (and will always be Bostonians at heart) and we remember enjoying other restaurants at this location before Met Back Bay. Met Back Bay compares well to any of the previous restaurants at his location.
We came here with our family for a graduation ceremony and everyone LOVED it. The green guru salad is filling and delicious. The pasta and steak tips were fabulous. You can’t go wrong.
I'd recommend for brunch, but dinner has been mediocre last couple of times. Entrees are expensive for what they are - short rib for $30? There was little ambience upstairs as well.
I recently hosted a business dinner at the MET. There were some major mess-ups with my reservation, but in the end, we got a table. The good news is they have great long booths, perfect for our party of 8 and, we could converse. The bad news is that our single waitress struggled with clearing and serving food, I was a bit embarrassed that my business guests had to continuously pass their plates to the end of the booth as it was impossible for the waitress to clear or serve beyond the first people in the booth. The food was great, service was a bit slow, but the restaurant was very busy. There is a good wine list. Overall, it was good, but if you use opentable to reserve, check with the restaurant, too, there was a disconnect between OT and the MET.
Hi Snorkels I appreciate that you enjoyed the spaciousness of the booth table during your recent visit, but I am sincerely sorry for any operational shortcomings that resulted due to it's size! I am surprised to hear of any issue with your OT reservation - if you would be so kind, I would appreciate a bit more detail if you have time to get back to me. That said, my sincere apologies again for any service concerns - I would be happy to make it up to you. I hope to hear back soon. Matt, GM
Very disappointed with the menu - neither of us could find something we were interested in, and the best alternative was overpriced hamburgers or fish & chips. The place was empty for a Friday evening. Used to be a reliable “go to” place, but not any more.
Had lunch. Nice atmosphere. great service. We sat in doors. Indoors is perfect for a quiet lunch with conversation.
The food, drink, and service are always great here. It is a bit pricey however.
This is a double edged question. I have always referred The Met Bar to friends. This last visit I made a reservation for myself to dine with my company’s Director of Customer Care. The irony with this is that as soon as we walked in we had a less than good experience. The hostess was not the friendliest with greeting us. When we asked to be seated at another table, she did so passive aggressively stating that the table we requested is usually only given to tables of more than two. Please keep in mind that the restaurant was empty. Our server did her job but did not seem warm or enthusiastic. Thankfully, food and drinks were good. I was embarrassed that I had a corporate colleague visiting Boston and the best restaurant that I referred and made reservations to offered bad service.
I was extremely disappointed in my recent lunch at the Met bar. In the past I have enjoyed their chopped salad. But this time it was so disappointing. They only used rather wilted iceberg lettuce and it was hardly chopped. Except for the avocado you needed a microscope to find the other ingredients that were to be in the salad like cheese or corn. The service was fine but I do not plan on returning unless the food improves.
Not a great breakfast. Limited menu, not very tasty selections and they were cleaning the place (vacuuming etc) while we ate... also a dark, bar-like feel to the place....
Excellent food. Best mac and cheese in New England. Timing is terrible though.
I've had so many good meals here-- not sure what happened. The duo of tartares got much smaller, more finely chopped and is now served on a plate vs in two square ramekins. It did not look great. I got a tofu reuben which was just gloppy, hard to eat and not so tasty. Maybe my fault for the wacky order. The service was really good, the space is still beautiful. I should try it again and hope for the experience I have always had!
They took a reservation for a time that they were not open. Very aggravating.
we work nearby and anytime we can go to lunch as a group we always go here, excellent all around!
Always delicious food and the atmosphere is perfect! Thanks again for another fantastic meal!!!!
Everyhting was great (outstanding lobster benedict!)- only complaint was that the bathroom was freexing and only had cold water.
Yes/no on the recommendation. If it’s a friend that drinks - yes. But for the food experience, not so much. I got an egg scramble with home fries. My partner got a dish with a ham steak that was on the mother’s day special menu. The egg scramble with veggies was just ok but I was shocked to see deep fried home fries. To Deep Fry home fries makes them French fries, not home fries. As a healthy eater, I was upset to see greasy barely seasoned potatoes next to my veggie scammble. My partners ham steak was dry and lacked flavor. The place is nice but the food is def not worth the price. You need to up your game on the food.
The food was so good! I had the bfast pizza and then the Met Slam. Very big portions but love it. Please note that they do not start serving alcohol until 11am on Sundays.
I usually never fill out these reviews, but my experience was just so unpleasant and disappointing. I'll keep it short and simple.
- Asked for window seat in reservation. Got placed in the middle of the room. Another couple got the window seat 2 minutes after us.
- Our waitress had really bad B.O. - I'm not being critical, just calling it like it is.
- My wife's food came out cold and they forgot the avocado, which was included in the meal
- They took my wife's silverware after reheating her food and didn't give us new silverware
- I got pancakes and did not receive any syrup
In summary, I can't believe I spent over a hundred dollars on breakfast for this experience.
The restaurant had a great atmosphere and the food was delicious and arrived quickly. It was a bit expensive, but an awesome place to go for a special occasion. The staff was very friendly!
Amaizng service and food. Loved he experience.
Great breakfast!! Amazing toast and homemade raspberry jam. Everyone I brought there love it.
We live right around the corner and this is our go to local spot! The green guru salad, burgers and steak is always a constant great. Try a charcuterie board with some wine and just relax outside after a long day. We always recommend! :)
I’m curious as to whether the Nutella French toast on the weekend brunch menu has changed recently. I’ve had it before and the one I got on Sunday was different. Pictures posted on Yelp and the restaurants Instagram picture are also different than what I got.
Hi Kendra Thanks for writing. The recipe for this dish did indeed change and truth be told it has been generally well-received! The new dish has all the same great elements but has been cleaned up a bit (less deep fried, more delicious nutella!) That said, I am sorry that your expectations were not met - I do agree the original recipe sure did look way over-the-top! Please reach back out to me here directly and I will do what I can to make this right for you. Hope to see you soon! Matt Dix, GM
My cocktail tasted like sugar water and the food was kind of tasteless. Weird. We had great lunch outside at metbar in patriots day.
Lighting was a little dark in the area of the restaurant we were sitting. No candles on the table or chandeliers/lights overhead.
Sadly me and my family did not have a great experience on this Easter Sunday at what used to be one of my favorite brunch spots. The service was terrible. I had to ask twice about receive my coke. My father and I got the same meal with one exception, no mushrooms in my scramble but mushrooms were included anyway. I had to pick them out. I asked our server if we could substitute homefries for toast she said yes but charged us for them anyway and gave us homefries which we did not want. What a waste of food! To top it off my brother and I weren’t able to finish our pancakes because our server placed dirty plates on top of the pancakes before we could say STOP! Why didn’t she ask if we were done first?! Honestly, it felt like our server was rushing us out the door the whole meal. I’m glad we left and I can’t say we’ll be coming back.
Easter Brunch, excellent
Not allergy friendly. They do not have all ingredients listed under item, which made it challenging to order with a dairy allergy. Same experience for another member of our party who was allergic to nuts. Overall good we did get was mediocre
Always a great time
Good always so delicious
Service was great
Please bring some selection for vegans and vegetarians
Felt a little shoved into table- it was Boston Marathon eve.
Service fine but food arrived lukewarm to cold! Seemed too busy to correct.
Great location and modest serving size.
Food came out at different times, didn’t have stuff on the menu... lemonade tasted like glorified water
We came for breakfast on a rainy Monday morning. The waitress didn’t know what a “macchiato” was and then told me they didn’t have that when it was listed on the menu, she then walked away without taking my boyfriend’s order. She returned 5 mins later with a lukewarm latte. We then decided to leave along with the table that was seated before us.
Hi. I recall speaking with you that morning, in an attempt to make the situation right for you - I am very sorry that this happened. That said, I always find value in taking feedback constructively and using it to make my team stronger. Please feel free to reach out any time - it would be my pleasure to invite you back as my guest. Sincerely, Matt Dix GM
Worst place in Boston. We tried this place for lunch back in the Fall and it was okay. Went for brunch last weekend for 2 people and waited over 45 minutes for the food. They ended up forgetting to order certain food items and we were overcharged. Terrible service and the food wasn’t good. Brunch for 2 should NOT cost $70+ without drinks. We will not be returning.
The server was clearly having a bad day and was rude, not attentive and honestly made this a not very good experience. The food portions were also much smaller than in the past and egg scramble was barely warm, much less hot. While I have always liked the space and the food is good, it was a disappointing experience.
Everything was pretty good but we had to wait 25 minutes past our reservation time.
It was my birthday and the staff treated me and my guess like royalty
Just revamped the menu and great breakfast options. Our server was outstanding. The food was good but I'd say not outstanding; but the ambiance in the place is nice and the location is fantastic
