Meso Maya-West Plano
Chef Nico’s love for the culinary arts started at age nine, when he worked for a bakery, making deliveries and assisting in the kitchen in Mexico. Nico honed his skills at several restaurants throughout the country, in states such as Vera Cruz, where he learned about seafood, dried chilies, and making sauces from scratch, and Oaxaca, where he perfected tamale-making techniques. In 1996 he left Mexico for Dallas so he could pursue his goal of becoming a renowned chef. By traveling from state to state throughout Mexico, Chef Nico learned many of the culinary skills that patrons in the area enjoy every day. Chef Nico earned his reputation within the Dallas restaurant scene by working at Cuba Libre, The Porch, Hibiscus, and Meso Maya. His food is celebrated for its complexity, unique presentation, and fresh flavors (thanks, in part, to his love of gardening—he grows peppers, tomatoes, squash, and onions).

It was my first time at Meso Maya and it couldn't have been any better. Elizabeth was our server and all of her recommendations from the carne asada to the bourbon margaritas were fantastic. The atmosphere is energetic but not too loud and the ambience is incredible. Highly recommended!
We ate inside. The restroom and the booth we sat in both could use some deep cleaning. Thought most places did that last year during shut down. Food was just mediocre.
Great space and vibe with solid food and great service
Brunch was delicious and our service was excellent.
We wish the waiter would have worn a mask. Even when we asked for our comfort level dining in the establishment, he wanted to speak about requirements in Collin county vs Dallas county. Even though we were on the patio, the server was very close every time he came to our table. We still tipped him; however, it would have been nice for him to oblige our request.
Table Chips: I though I was eating Fritos out of the bag.
Queso: Too thick for an appetizer.
Drink: Terrible, watered-down, tasteless Margarita. When I told the waitress, she said that I should have ordered the top-shelf instead!
Carne Asada: Tough, chewy
Mole Enchiladas: Decent.
Great food and quick, friendly service. My mom came into town and wanted some good food and we were treated to an awesome meal and will definitely be back. Thank you for making my mom’s visit a great one!
Had a delightful time with a well informed and courteous wait staff. Food was very good and cooked to our satisfaction.
We will be coming back.
Great food. Service a little erratic. Noise level not good for conversation.
As always wonderful food and cocktails. Our waiter Orlando was excellent!
One of our favorites. We love to have dinner and margaritas at the bar. The Mexican Martini is the best margarita in town IMHO and some of the mezcal cocktails are also great. Great variety of menu items and appetizers and the bartenders are always friendly.
Food was 10/10 as always. The avocado margaritas were perfect. Service was friendly but a little slow for how quiet the restaurant was. We had a good time overall
Understaffed and food not up to normal standards
Everyone here is as all restaurants should be. I’ve never had anything less than excellent from their menu. The staff is always very friendly and welcoming. It’s not overly loud and the restaurant divisions inside and outside keeps the noise level in check so that you can easily have a conversation with someone. Amazing margaritas! Excellent Shrimp enchiladas, but the blueberry pastry for dessert is wow!
Great, attentive service. Avocado martini was delicious. Fun vibe.
Service was great from the hostess, to the waiter, to the management. High chair was there before we were seated. They noticed our order was messed up before we did and corrected it right away. Everyone was extremely polite the entire time!
First visit. Much enjoyed. Great mango sangria and pineapple habanero margarita. We shared a Ceviche which was also very good. Our waiter was patient and helped me make my best best choice by allowing me to taste the mole poblano sauce. Loved it. Booth seating was private and safe. We will return.
Tough right now as the restaurants are understaffed, staff was doing the best they could.
My order was the easiest (tacos) but I had to wait the longest and the carne asada tacos were horrible. Too chewy/rubbery. Two others in my party ordered Budin Azteca and the potatoes were undercooked. It was not nearly as tasty as our waitress described it. The waitress was very accommodating and brought me a free soup even though I didn’t ask for it nor do I eat soup, so that was a waste of money on the restaurants behalf. It wouldn’t been nice if she just comped my meal or offered a free drink. No one in my party enjoyed their meals and the drinks were way overpriced for the amount of alcohol you get. It was like drinking syrup with ice and a splash of alcohol. Totally NOT worth your hard earned money. Will NOT be going back again.
Delicious, fabulous service from beginning to end, enjoyed absolutely everything!
First time here and will definitely be back. Everything we ordered was delicious! Be sure to try the chicharones. It’s a very yummy appetizer. Also enjoyed their chuletas and mango strawberry margarita. Great service as well!
Excellent food, excellent service. People were waiting but we were seated immediately because of our reservations. Service was excellent (Rhosa). We'll be back, and we'll reserve a table with Open Table every time.
Great service and great food.
Outstanding food, cocktails and customer service!!
We were a party of four. Two of our dinners were good and two were not good. When we told the server that we were disappointed with the dishes, the comment was “I am sorry to hear that”. We ate them anyway, but doubt that we will give it another try for a while.
Our waiter was great. Food was delicious. The mango sangria was excellent. We had a great time a d will definitely be back soon.
Creative menu choices and everything so fresh and delicious!
Under staffed for a Saturday- so we waited extra time to order. Food was great.
Fresh, delicious food. Amazing service even though it was very busy.
The food was delicious, the drinks were good and the service was great. We had a great meal!
Food and service were excellent!
Great food as always. Love the outdoor patio
Great prices. Delicious food. No up charge to sub sides. Happy hour!!
Isaac our server was wonderful!!! We had a lovely time.
Outstanding food and cocktails!
It was ok.. our chips were mainly crumbs and the steak quesadilla wasn’t the best cuts of steak.. it was tough and grisly. Not the best I’ve had here. Table was a little sticky, but other than that the ambience was ok. We were near a table with a baby and another loud table.
Amazing start to finish!
Food was good overall: queso appetizer, carne tacos, enchilada poblano. The service was interesting - while the waitress was really nice, she disappeared for long periods of time, and on multiple occasions tried to clear plates that we were still working on.
Went on a Friday eve, 6:30 and the restaurant was dead. We spent close to an hour there and it got busier, but not by much. I can’t say that there is a vibe of any kind here, there’s definitely a lack of energy. I’d consider going to another location if I go back. Sometimes it’s a management problem, not a staff problem.
Fabulous food and service! Love their Budin Azteca dishes.
