First time there with another couple and it was amazing!! Service was attentive , food was lovely taste and presentation and the owner graciously sent over complimentary desserts that were delicious!
We will definitely be back ! What a nice treat!!
It is listed as $ but should be $$. It's outrageously expensive, $15 for guacamole! Food was great but $25 for 4 vegetarian tacos is too much.
Very good food, high quality, and quite tasty. Drinks were also very good and prices matched the quality of the food and drinks. Our server was hurried on a busy night and did not explain menu to us. We would go back again for sure.
I used to love Mesa Urbana. Went for Valentine’s Day dinner with my family. I get it’s a tough night. The server was slammed. 35 minutes to take an order. Almost one hour to get our food. And it was dry and over cooked. Then we were offered free desserts and got charged for one. Again the server tried.
Most disappointing was the managment. The manager’s view when I asked for help the first time was the chicken takes a long time to cook. Not, we’re sorry. The second time I tried to ask for help, I was interrupted and told I was rude.
Usually good food. Tonight was really really disappointing. The kitchen and leadership was not up to the task. Management made it worse, which was, perhaps, worst of all. Of course our neighboring tables felt bad for us (after they sent back their food for being undercooked). In these types of situations all the manager needed to do was say, we’re sorry, we’ll take care of you.
We have been coming to the restaurants since day one. I highly recommend the salmon it’s one of the top selling dishes. The red sangria is one of my favorites as well. The owners name is Moe and he is extremely friendly. We really enjoy coming to his restaurant
Great food and exceptionally friendly service
Every meal I’ve had has been tremendous! A city like menu a 5 star chef a true food experience. Just too bad it’s in a strip mall with bad parking!
Delicious drinks and food! Everything was so fresh and tasty! Waitress LuAnne was funny and attentive and had great food and drink recommendations!
Only complaint was it is loud!
Mesa Urbana is a Mexican restaurant with gourmet food, not your every day Mexican restaurant, and the food is excellent.
Every entree that I have had has been very tasty
Simply amazing! We were looking for a spot to celebrate a family birthday. The birthday girl requested Mexican and we were drawn to Mesa Urbana because their menu offers something other than the usual assortment of tacos, burritos, enchiladas.... We are so happy we decided to make the longer drive to try it out.
There was not a moment of our evening that was not perfect. Service was friendly and attentive. Food was creative and delicious. We tried the guacamole, ceviche trio, chicken tacos and fish tacos. Portions were generous but not overwhelming. Kitchen was incredibly accommodating of preferences. Space is warm and inviting despite it being in a strip mall and the noise level was just right for group conversation without feeling like other tables could hear our every word (or us, theirs). We will absolutely return. Soon!
Always delicious food and drink. Can’t wait to go back again!
Overpriced by at least $5.00 per item. Many more Mexican restaurants with all types of menus that have better food and MUCH better prices. Had seafood pasta there were 2 shrimp unstable calamari and fair mussels. Lots of pasta.
Second time been there and my first impressions were correct. Will not be going back. Too many other better choices!
Upscale Mexican food... it was really a great pleasure dining here the first time. We ordered something that wasn’t on the menu and the chef obliged which was really nice. We also ordered plenty that was on the menu and everything was outstanding. Great presentation too. This restaurant is a gem that sits in a very unassuming strip mall. It’s easy to pass by. I feel lucky that we found it. We will be back!
Fun place! Amazing food and margaritas
We are never disappointed with the delicious food, craft cocktails, dessert or the excellent service!
We had a reservation early evening on a Wednesday (not busy). The hostess guessed my name, and when I told her the correct one, she just laughed and said 'whatever'. Within a few minutes after being seated, our waiter wanted to take our entree order, which we placed. Afterward, we questioned that he didn't ask us if we wanted to order drinks or an appetizer. As he passed by, we asked to order drinks and he said he would take care of that (which he did). In record time, our entrees were presented. It was so rushed, that I felt I was at a place such as Dennys. The food was tasty, but rather pricey for the amount served. The waiter was very quick in offering the check, and not asking if we wanted another drink or if we had an interest in dessert. We were out of there in record time. It was not an experience that I was expecting based on others reviews. Hopefully, management will make an effort training their employees to promote a better paced dining experience than the one we had.
We went to Mesa for a b-day celebration. The food, service and ambiance were good. It’s a friendly place, but parking can sometimes be an issue.
The food was good but overpriced
Food is fresh and delicious. Service is great! Owner is charming. Very welcoming.
Best salmon and guacamole in the area.
Great dinner! Parking is difficult.
The food was delicious. It has a “city” atmosphere. Loved my cocktails !
Food is creative and pairs well with their well-crafted cocktails. Make sure to save room for dessert! I wish I remembered the name of our server because he was awesome! This is a neighborhood gem that we love.
Excellent meal with excellent service
The food is consistently good here. I love that they service the guacamole with beautifully sliced vegetables (in addition to homemade chips). Also try the cauliflower side! Great drinks too.
The restaurant has maintained its consistency of serving creative and very tasty meals. Love the varied choices on the menu. The staff is very friendly and welcoming as well! I highly recommend this restaurant.
This was our third time there and we continue to love it. We especially like the guacamole and fresh vegetables they serve with it. The kids’ portions are very generous (probably could be shared) and the adult drinks are delicious. This time we were served by Luanne who was great with our kids! We’ll ask to be seated at her table again!
Overall restaurant experience was very good. Reservations made through Open Table were never received by the restaurant.
Got off to a great start with chips and warm salsa verde and only got better from there. Our appetizer fried calamari had a light not over fried taste the salad of mixed greens beets and feta also very good. Entrees were gnoc-chi with lobster for me and glazed salmon for my wife .This is modern Mexican ,we had a wonderful meal and only Mexican part was the chips and salsa.
We tried Mesa Urbana for New Year's Eve. The menu is creative and authentic; and the food delivers on taste! We'll be back to try several other items on the menu and specials.
Mesa Urbana is an unexpectedly sophisticated gem in the triangle on Milwaukee Avenue in Northbrook. Its interpretations of seafood in Mexican style are what I find especially attractive. Last night we had a grilled octopus with eggplant and red pepper, a trio of ceviche, and a clam chowder with plenty of fresh corn
It's great every time. Food is awesome, friendly staff, and the owner always makes sure you're satisfied. If you're hanging out with friends, on the date, or celebrating special occasion, I recommend this place!
The food and service were great! Looking forward to returning. The quest fundidp
This place is wonderful. On our last visit our server was adorable and the Manager came by and bought my family dessert. The food is always great. My only negative is it can get a bit pricey. The entrees are priced correctly but the appetizers & kids menu are a bit outrageous($15 for guacamole & $9 for a bowl of kids noodles with no drink included).
A unique and very excellent restaurant with clever delicious food ; Fabulous drinks , and a warm inviting atmosphere . The owners stop by to make sure you feel welcome and that your meal is up to , or over (!) , your expectations. It is a bit pricey but the food merits that . Only recommendation I might suggest is a change of menu a few times a year . I’ve been there so often i’ve nearly tried everything on the wonderful menu ! Special place for a special meal .
White fish special was truly special. Preparation and presentation out standing. Salmon was excellent as usual. Enjoyed the margaritas.
Anniversary dinner. Great food upscale Mexican
A week night Anniversary dinner was the perfect occasion for Mesa Urbana. While weekend evenings are boisterous and super busy, a Tuesday night was the perfect time to enjoy the extraordinarily delicious food, drink and service at this consistently excellent restaurant. It was our 6-7th visit and we’ll surely be back.
