We opted to eat inside and basically had a private dining room because everyone else wanted to sit in their lovely outdoor dining area. Cocktails were great. The food was really yummy but I wasn’t as into butternut squash the way their chef was. Would definitely return.

We were dining with friends in the outdoor patio on a beautiful summer night in Chicago. The guacamole with fresh radish, beets, and tortilla chips was delicious and a unique twist on the typical chips & guac. The scallops in butter sauce were very tasty but needed something in the dish in addition to just the scallops. What was most impressive was how the staff responded to a potential allergy issue with my husband. He mistakenly ate a piece of shrimp in the queso (not the fault of the restaurant) and forgot his epi pen. The owner rushed out to get Benadryl and made a special queso for him sans shrimp. The next morning the owner called to make sure he was OK. He was fine, but we really appreciated the attention and urgency the staff showed with this potential issue. We will be back!!!

We were a group of six and had an absolutely delicious meal! The cocktails were fabulous as well. The wait staff were knowledgeable about the menu and ingredients and adept at timing the different courses. This is definitely our favorite upmarket Mexican restaurant in Chicago!

Love the restaurant's food, but found it incredibly expensive. For example, the wines I liked on their wine list were more per glass than what you would pay for the entire bottle at places like Binny's: Example: D.O. Rias Abellio Albariño 2020 Spain 15 per glass /60 bottle. $18 guacamole.... I get the need for profit, but prices like these are driving people away from eating out.

This is a terrific restaurant. The food is elevated beyond as what one would normally expect a Mexican restaurant to serve. The glazed salmon is outstanding. Highly recommend this restaurant.

Food was beyond outstanding. Tamarind glazed salmon: perfect combo of sweet and savory. And, best chocolate ice-cream ANYWHERE. Patio is urban and private; feels like you're on vacation in Europe. Service from Orfa was superb.

We had a terrific meal, sitting on Mesa Urbana's patio, on a beautiful summer night. Food was consistently innovative and delicious. Squash enchiladas were rich and tasty. Chicken was moist, tender, and flavorful. Tuna was perfectly prepared and spicy. Creative cocktails, too. At the end of the meal, after talking with the owner and head bartender about mezcals, they invited us into the bar to sample a mezcal cocktail with hibiscus (it was excellent!) and a few different mezcals. Already looking forward to going back!

The entrees were a little pricey, but delicious and good sized. We had the tuna tostada and tomato/halloumi salad appetizers as well as the salmon entree. Everything was delicious. We sat outside and the atmosphere is quiet and shaded, very relaxing. The servers are welcoming and efficient.

This is not your typical Mexican restaurant. As the name says, it's the urban version. I never order salmon in a restaurant. I can make that myself but this dish is spectacular. Salmon over mango and papaya on a bed of guacamole (one of the best I've tasted) with a Mexican glaze. The beet salad is delicious and quite a large helping for a "side". The endive salad with cheese, nuts and apples sits on a Mexican version of Thousand Island dressing (it's got a little kick). Along with the perfect Margarita offered with or without salt, completes the perfect meal.

This was not only a meal, but an experience. Our waiter patiently and enthusiastically walked us through the difference between tequila and mescal, and curated different mescals for us to taste. Food was out of this world and service was also. As we left the restaurant we felt as if we had just had a meal with a large extended family, as the staff bade us goodbye. Our new favorite restaurant !!

We were incredibly disappointed by our visit to Mesa Urbana. We were seated 30 minutes after our reservation. The server also took 10 minutes to get to our table and offered no apology. The food was also very, very highly priced for what it was. $18 for guacamole which did not even include chips ($6 extra for chips). We spent nearly $400 for 4 people. Overall the food was good, but not good enough to justify those prices. Service was extremely lacking to justify those prices as well.

We came here before a Show at Park West and it was amazing! The service was great. Everyone was friendly and professional. Our server was knowledgable and checked in on us multiple times. The back waiters were so polite, cleared plates in a timely manner, and our water glasses were always being refilled. On top of all that, our dishes were delicious! Our favorites were the queso fundido, elote, and the salmon al carbon.

The staff did such a great job making us feel very well taken care of. We were celebrating a friend's birthday and they created the perfect atmosphere for the occasion. The food was perfect and the drinks were a great complement to the evening. I can't wait to go back!
