Honestly, I’ve have way better tacos in the Orlando area. The location was nice. That’s it. The service wasn’t that great either. And the patio had these bright lights that were so bright that gave me a headache.
Mesa21 has been on our list to try for awhile and we were highly disappointed. The food was room temperature and bland while our drinks were flat. The staff was so disengaged that we were never asked once about our experience. At one point the music turned off so we ate our meal in the awkward silence of the restaurant.
Extremely disappointed with the overall experience. Restaurant was recommended to us by our daughter. Menu items looked quite good, but it went downhill after that. We waited almost 45 minutes for our meal to arrive. Was not even very busy. I was really looking forward to going there because there was an item on the menu that is a favorite of mine. I ordered it and when it arrived not only was it cold and undercooked but it was not even brought to the table the way it was supposed to be, in a lava rock. I had to send it back to heat it up and only then did they tell me the reason it did not come the way it was supposed to. They knew that before i ordered so they should have told me. In addition, my wife’s dish came after my dish so we couldn’t even start eating together.
We like the views.. happy hour with six dollar margaritas is great and the food is pretty darn good!
What probably could’ve been a wonderful night at Mesa 21 if the restaurant was open. According to Open Table the restaurant closed at 10pm. Wasn’t able to attend my 9pm reservation because the restaurant closed at 9pm.
Great service and the food and drinks were delicious.
I eat at Mesa21 fairly regularly for lunch as I work nearby and the food is actually really good. This dinner experience, however, the service was very, very bad. Not sure if this was a common thing or we were just unlucky but we might as well have been invisible for as much as we had to flag someone down for pretty much every thing we needed or ordered. There were loads of empty tables so they cant even say b/c it was busy. Also we were given cocktail size napkins, plastic cups and plastic silverware. For dinner. As if the dinner service struggle wasn’t enough, they apparently turn the restaurant into some rave for scantily clad youth around 11pm, complete with DJ, lights and people randomly milling about during dinner service. Def keep my visits to the lunch hour if I go back.
We were seated quickly but then waited for close to 40 minutes until a server was assigned to our table. We asked for waters for the table and the server only brought one for the person that spoke. Our drinks from the bar took close to 15 minutes to come out. Just poor service overall. Food was mediocre. Not great, not bad.
Excellent food and the Margarita Tower was awesome!
Great views on Lake Ivanhoe and great guacamole and margaritas, among other items. We love it!
I'm in town for work. My group came here last year and it was so good that we came twice during our trip! This time, it took 7 minutes to get seated with many open tables and a reservation. No host or hostess at the door. The guy busing the tables had absolutely no sense of urgency and acted like he didn't even see us. The waitress was very slow and kept apologizing for the delay, but didn't pick up the pace at all. We almost walked out twice and many other customers actually left before being seated. They kept saying they were busy even though there were only 3-5 tables once we were seated and dirty tables continued to stay that way up until the point that we left. The food was good, but it was nothing special. They didn't offer to do anything about us waiting, like comping the appetizer. The best part of the evening were the drinks. They were delicious! Overall, the experience/atmosphere was too poor to look past, even though the food was good.
They did not honor our reservation and told us we would have to wait 30 min to eat outside. It does say, “outdoor seating (if available)” when you book so it’s not completely their fault, but why bother with a reservation? The ambiance of the outdoor patio did look great! Food wasn’t great that night.... they almost didn’t have chips and the beans were more like bean soup.
Our table was not ready when we arrived. We waited approximately 20 plus minutes before someone came to take our drink order. We then waited an additional time (exact amount unknown) for our order to be taken. It took maybe even well over an hour before our food arrived. Mind you we have a 2 and 4 year old who were hungry. The appetizer came to our table 2 plates for 4 people and no silverware or napkins. That drink order I placed at the beginning still no drink. Eventually our food came. There was hair in my food. When the waitress finally came back I showed her the hair and my husband reminded her of my drink order. There was no apology for the hair being in my food. My food did not come out quickly and there was again no apology. In fact; we were still charged for everything we ordered. With the worst service ever. Complete hands down awful experience. And we had out of town guests with us - embarrassing. We are so dissatisfied.
The service is always impeccable! The nachos were large enough to be an entree! Absolutely amazing! I OUR all time favorite is the roasted cauliflower and the margarita tower !:)
The food was amazing. My wife and I went here for Valentine Day and we loved the view of the lake. The service was great and the food was very flavorful and authentic. It was presented extremely well. No complaints at all. I am sure we will be back!
I had lunch with two friends at Mesa 21 and just can’t even tell you how much we enjoyed our time there. Beautiful setting, great service, delicious food.
We arrived early but couldn’t get waited on at the bar for a drink even though it wasn’t busy. There was also a huge puddle on the floor...dangerous. We walked across the street for a drink. We came back, and our experience improved. Dinner was good and waiter attentive. The deck is nice, but with the plastic pulled down there was no view at all. The weather was nice. Would’ve liked the plastic to be removed for better ambiance.
Beautiful view of the lake from inside!
Party of 4. Entrees came out for 2 of us. A full 5 mins later 3rd person got food...3 mins later ..4th person got food. We all started eating. This shouldn’t be happening. It’s awkward and unpleasant. Wait for the full order to be ready before you serve.
We made a confirmed reservation on Open Table and it showed there were available time slots and appeared to be open on New Years Eve. Exterior light was on...we walk up to the door and completely dark inside - closed. We drove 20 minutes to the restaurant by ride share and there were no other good restaurant options close by so we had to call another ride share to get us back downtown. Wasted our time and money. So I cannot provide a real recommendation/review other than the restaurant needs to make sure the information on Open Table is accurate.
Terrible experience. As half of our group was sitting at the table waiting for the remainder of our group, the manager told the ones that arrived later that the kitchen just closed when they walked in. It was 7:31 PM....they vacuumed the restaurant as we ate our dinner at 8:30 PM. The soup was incredibly salty and the meat inside the quesadillas and enchiladas was inedible due to dryness. Very disappointed with the overall experience. Not to mention, the restaurant was empty.
Took family and sat on deck by lake, flaps down due to chilly temps but still pretty. This place has an amazing location and view but underperforms in attention to details, the tables are uninspiring (and it’s dark on the deck at night — bright table candles would help!) and the service is so, so basic — have to ask for everything. Not trained well or trying to run it on the cheap. Food is standard Mexican fare, have some interesting cocktails. Wouldn’t go here for anything “special.” No manager visit or visible. Too bad, it could be amazing! (Hire a service consultant or very experienced, personable manager).
Arrived and discovered the main dining room was closed for a private event. Would have appreciated being told this at reservation time as we then had to sit waterfront on a chilly evening.
The restaurant was empty. No Iced tea. 2 people in our party wanted tea-no tea bags. No options-coffee?? Really. Food service was slow. The food was cold. Not a good experience at all!
Overall nice experience there. The food is delicious. Qudous to the chef! We had ceviche, roasted cauliflower, and chicken quesadillas.
There are few things they can improve though.
1- the valet guy had some attitudes. You know like people who think they are the managers are valet section and clients has to follow their orders or so. Sometime people forget the core idea behind their service. Valet is for customers better experience and convenience. It should be satisfaction oriented kind of business.
2- in case of our wine, we ordered “Breca” and the server brought us “Brega” which I didn’t readied until I saw the bill of $80 instead of $45 :) but they were kind enough to adjust it to $45! How ever she didn’t opened the wine in front of us and the cork name was “ordonez” which makes you go Hmmmm!!!!!
3- you may find wine glasses full of water marks and not shiny but if you’re not used to high quality service so it wouldn’t bother you!
Table of six. Orders messed up and late. Some of the food was cold. After four of the people finished, the food came for the other two and one of them was wrong. That person gave up on eating that night. Chips is all they got! It would have been better if the waiter wrote down the orders.
Food and atmosphere are amazing! Service was slow. Guest requested tea that never came.
Great place to meet friends. Awesome outdoor view to the Lake.
Food was just ok. Service was good. Restaurant was dead. You can tell the managers don't care about business as one sat in a booth behind us the entire time we ate looking at her cell phone.
We wanted to enjoy lunch with a view this day because the weather was just perfect. An Orlando Sentinel article from a couple years back highlighted 20 restaurants in Orlando with stunning views. We decided to try Mesa21. It wasn't busy at all for a beautiful Sunday. More than half the inside and outside tables were vacant. Service was friendly, but sort of slow. I can get more exciting tacos from El Potro for 7.99 versus the 14.00 for the same number of tacos, 3. Granted, a small cup of refried black beans and a small cup of rice came with the 14.00 version and not the 7.99 at El Potro. All staff were friendly and hospitable, very nice people. For a meal with a view and friendly staff, lakeside ambiance, proximity to downtown and other popular locations, neighborhoods, you'll be happy. Food value and knock your socks off flavor, maybe not.
We enjoyed our visit. Everything was wonderful. We will definitely be returning.
Service was a disaster. There were many reasons as to why, but here are a few. I reordered a second drink and the server brought me something different. When I said this was the incorrect drink, the server openly blamed the bartender for giving me the wrong beverage. I'm pretty sure the server was the one who brought me the wrong drink without paying attention? Also, my boyfriend's steak was so well done he could barely cut into it and had to order something else from the menu. Our friend ordered beef tacos and the entire plate had a layer of beef juice/grease from the tacos dripping from the holders onto the plate. SO unappetizing looking and the fact that it even made it to the table and was served without question??? I used to love Mesa, but clearly they are understaffed and there is no oversight to any of the food leaving the kitchen. I will not be returning.
Really great location for a sunset and outdoor seating, food was hit and miss, service was disappointing. When we arrived early in the evening, restaurant about 30% full, the table next to us was a mess, had not been cleared. Our waitress was really nice, but missed a few key things. We did not have silverware until after our meals came and we had to ask for it. Another server walked around with our dishes to all the other tables because he wasn't sent to the right location. Our waitress had to come back twice to let us know that things we had ordered were not available. Then she was MIA for much of the meal. In the end, my husband did love the ceviche and the beef carpaccio, but I was pretty disappointed in the tacos. The chips and salsa were good. I don't regret checking out this new restaurant for our anniversary dinner, but that was likely our last time. There are too many other great restaurants in Orlando to check out.
Good food, nice atmosphere. Terrible service. Slow and inattentive.
Refreshing Mojito and, once again, we ordered too much food, even though we cut back! Everything is yummy. Couldn't take a to-go box unfortunately as we were heading to a symphony concert and car would be in a parking garage for multiple hours. Ah well, maybe next time I'll bring a ice bag for the car!
Our waiter was awesome and patient!!! He found the right wine for us and let us visit with each other before taking our dinner order... The entrees were served very quickly!!
We came for a friend birthday to do a lunch by the lake but the service was slow and the food wasn’t very good. It’s a shame because the location is lovely but we won’t be back.
Second time there for the Sunday brunch and loved it just as much as the first time. Great food and drinks!
The food has really gone downhill. My drink was watery and awful too.
Food was amazing! Went for the Sunday brunch. Service was excellent! Went while we were on vacation in Orlando. Will definitely come back next year!
