Mes Reves crafts modern, decadent fine French fare in its relaxing and contemporary bistro setting. The luscious, crisp puff pastry mushroom tart and the seared sea scallops in a saffron cream sauce are superb ways to start your meal with and speak to the level of expertise the kitchen surely houses. Mes Reves’ popular entrée items include the New York strip steak frites in herb butter, the seared rack of lamb with couscous and ratatouille, the roasted Cornish hen over potato puree and the pan seared salmon with shiitake leeks. For a sweet end to your sophisticated meal, enjoy Mes Reves’ homemade bread pudding, which is rich, gooey while being sweet and perfectly paired with a steaming hot espresso.

Classic French food at its best here, and the best part it is a BYO. The menu and the food have been consistent since its opening five years ago. And on occasion when the chef has the opportunity to be creative, he never ceases to amaze. That type of talent will be missed, and we can only hope that he comes back soon.

Mes Reves, which is closing in two weeks, did not live up to my expectations. Although it is a lovely place and we were warmly welcomed, the food was not to my taste. I was eagerly anticipating the skate, but it was overly seasoned and mushy in texture: not like skate I've had in Paris! The calamari in the salad was delicious and crisp, but the romaine lettuce was heavily dressed with a too sweet dressing that tasted a bit like tartar sauce. Perhaps the restaurant is winding down, but if it was remaining open I would definitely not return.

Our most recent visit to Mes Reves was not good. We have been there several times and had wonderful meals; this time the food tasted bad - not spoiled but just had horrible flavor. My husband started with the crab cakes which had so much red bell pepper in them that he couldn't taste the big lumps of crab. What a shame. I had the foie gras which was overcooked and 1 1/4 inches square. It was minuscule for $19 dollars. Had it been cooked correctly it would have been good, except for the ridiculous size. I then followed with the skate. The piece of fish was fresh and should have been delightful but it was muddy tasting. I don't know what they used to sauce and season it but it was not good at all! Yuck. I usually adore skate prepared simply, but not this. My husband had the sea bass special served in a brown butter sauce which was not seasoned and tasted very flat and greasey. again, not good. I ordered the bread pudding which was supposed to be a plain bread pudding with vanilla. It had so much orange it in that I couldn't eat it. Even the vanilla ice cream on it was flavored strangely in an unappetizing way. The Flan was good as was the cappuccino. We will try it once more after a few months but we hated the dinner this time. It was just awful.

I discovered Mes Reves in looking for a restaurant in the Montclair /Bloomfield Area on Open Table about a year ago. We enjoyed it then and decided to return to see if it was as good. It definitely was--the service was professional. the food beautifully presented and delicious as well and the ambiance was definitely upscale. All four of us would definitely return. Prices were reasonable considering the quality of the food, service and ambiance. On top of all this, Mes Reves is BYOB.

When Friends of Nutley Singers contacted me about a fundraiser at Mes Reves I went happily, but was a little worried in spite of the good reviews. Overwhelmed is the word. By the superb food, the beautiful surroundings, the coddling service, and just the whole, exciting experience. And it is a BYOB, which gives one the opportunity of drinking better wine at a lower price - always nice. Sauteed duck liver with a slightly sweet port wine sauce and tiny bits of butternut squash was utterly amazing. Cooked properly rare, seared outside, and sauced brilliantly delighted. We also ordered crisped sweetbreads, which were crisp. The sauce was delicious, but a little thick for the delicate sweetbreads. Our three mains: perfectly cooked large scallops on a bed of risotto which had been cooked to perfection. A classic Nicoise salad was fresh and delicious. My crisped skate was a large portion - but I had to finish it. Its sauteed mushrooms and crisped capers were a lovely option We shared a bread pudding with sauce vanille which was just enough. Did I mention the lovely bread? So, a return visit

A neighbor introduced us to Mes Reves telling me that "Bloomfield is giving Montclair a run for its money". Intrigued, I scheduled a reservation immediately. I was not disappointed. My dinner companion and I were greeted and seated immediately and water poured shortly thereafter. Our waitress was attentive and never rushed us through any part of our evening. It turned out we were able to enjoy our experience there for 3 hours. No reason to rush over such well prepared and beautifully presented food. Actually, my dinner companion had enough to take leftovers home. Try this place! They offer a fixed price menu during the week (only). Parking is on the street and you BYOB. All add up to a lovely evening.

I've been wanting to try Mes Reves out for a couple of years. So when my husband asked what I wanted for my birthday, I asked to go out for a nice dinner. The service was great. I asked for a substitute for one of the sides that came with my lamb and was pleasantly accommodated. We both enjoyed our food, the ambiance and overall experience. The restaurant has a very chic urban vibe that was unexpected in Bloomfield. They have cozy banquette seating as well as tables. There was a large group having a party, which appeared to be well-served and they weren't overly noisy. I would not only like to return, but I would definitely recommend it. Because it's BYOB, I think you get a lot for your money. Bon appetit, mes amis!
