Definitely would NOT recommend. We booked for a birthday and a few days before, the restaurant called to confirm our reservation, and say they’d prepare something special for us since it was a birthday. We got there and the whole place was in disarray. There was a total lack of communication around their covid policies, we repeatedly had to ask to get basic services, and our food came out cold. To put the cherry on top, when we at least asked about the “special something” for the birthday we were celebrating, we were told “oh sorry, we’re not doing that” even though they’d told us only a few days prior they would. Bottom line...mediocre service and good (but cold) food. Wouldn’t waste my time.
Mertens rooftop was an outstanding experience! You cannot beat these views, best place in the city! The drinks are great and the pasta was unreal. Perfect place for a date night or meeting up with a group of friends. You need to go during the sunset on a warm summer night!
View was amazing. Limited menu and limited bar due to COVID. Staff was very friendly. Their system was down so it was hectic on the servers but they did a great job.
Great rooftop location and wonderful views. Service was very professional. Ended up downstairs for dinner!
Great end to a fabulous day. Cocktails and dessert were delicious and Breighanna made the evening exceptional.
Perfect for a view of the city and a good cocktail.
Great atmosphere! I didn’t have any food, but drinks were great. Just pricy, but that’s what you’re paying for the good view
This was a very nice experience. We plan on returning again. There isn't much of a menu for appetizers but we had the smoked salmon and it was excellent.
This place is amazing. Great food, great drinks, great service, great view.
Definitely a better choice in better weather, but the location is quite nice. Would highly recommend for a nice drink or date; suggest bringing layers so you don’t get too cold. The heaters are nice and the ambience is great. Charcuterie could be a bit more high end in consideration of the overall theme and vibe.
It was a cool night and the staff gave us a blanket to keep warm... Great place for a cozy date... share a bottle of wine... and enjoy the scenery
Over rated. Extremely limited food and wine selection. I frequent roof top lounges in other cities and this did not meet expectations. Would not go back.
The drink selection is very limited (and pricey). I REALLY didn't like that I couldn't make a reservation without a credit card (and a risk of paying $20pp if we couldn't attend), but then to top that with the email I received from Open Table an hour after we left the restaurant admonishing me for not showing up for our reservation made that requirement for a credit card even more annoying. I wrote back to Open Table explaining that we did indeed attend our dinner reservation and now I have to watch my credit card bill to make sure I am not negligently charged. I'm glad we went, once, because the atmosphere on the rooftop was unique, but not completely show stopping. In fact, I thought it was funny that all the tables on the rooftop were filled with people (me included) who had to use blankets, huddle next to heaters and hold down our menus in the wind, just so we could say we've been to Haute. Now that I've done it, I don't think I need to do it again.
A GREAT spot! The view was fantastic and the staff was very outgoing and accommodating! Yes, it’s newer and there were a couple of kinks (to be expected), but it didn’t take away from the experience. Get the salmon rillett, it’s great (but wish it could be served warm!).
Can’t wat to go back!
Seafood was a bit overpriced when you consider we couldn't even get butter for the lobster. All the food came out separate, which would not have been a big deal if the most simple things would not have taken the longest. A tray of sausage and cheese took almost a half hour. Bread was an extra $3.50 after spending over $115 on a Seafood Tower and Cheese platter. They gave us like 4 pieces of bread with the cheese so, $3.50 for more bread was silly. Cocktails were very good and the quality of the seafood was good, although I did get an upset stomach after eating. This may have been from too much acid (lemon juice) with the seafood since the cocktail sauce was also slightly acidic tasting. Beer was overpriced as a Centennial is $7. The servers were very nice, they just had no sense of urgency or problem solving.
The roof top is beautiful with lovely seating and great views. Unfortunately, the food is a bit lacking. The only thing available is charcuterie. I should have done my homework before reserving. Everything is a bit pricey for what you get. It would be a nice stop before an event, but if you are looking for a menu with options, this is not it.
Our first time visiting the roof top. Beautiful view and nice seating. Brianna was awesome!! She was VERY accommodating and helpful with the menu. Need more high tops for seating. The seating arrangements are clunky. Need more beer selection.
But overall a great place.
The attraction is the view of the city of Grand Rapids from a rooftop. The menu is charcuterie - only. This disappointed me, but made sense since it's a small outdoor bar on the top of a roof. I was expecting to eat off the same menu as Hotel Mertens, though. The drinks were good. As far as food and drink go, though, they didn't hit me as exceptionally better than any other place... Again, what this place has that no one else does is the view.
My husband and I brought our best friends from out of town and had an amazing experience. Breighanna, the mananger was on it...we just love her! The view, drinks and appetizers are on point. Bravo, just what GR needs. Classy place!! Thank you for a great night!!
The views are great. The atmosphere & staff were spectacular. Amazing all around. We’ll definitely be back.
I wanted to love this place as we love the main restaurant. Long story short, they need to turn this into a rooftop bar and possibly a rentable event space. They’re trying to do too much.
When you check in on the main floor they’re very hospitable and treat you like a VIP taking you to the special elevator and pressing the special elevator button for guests to the rooftop. The experience went down from there. We get to the top where no one is there to greet you and you walk out wondering if you even have a table after this ridiculous reservation policy they have set to not even have a table set aside for your party.
We sat down to the only table available which was dirty and full of dirty dishes. They came over an cleaned it but for that crazy reservation you had to make it really put a downer on the experience.
The service was subpar taking way longer to get a drink even than I would have preferred. Again given that their reservation policy is strict even to how long you can be up there, the service better be snappy and attentive. We had to waive her over multiple times to get the evening going.
The food selection was subpar with half of the options being unavailable and none of the specialty drinks we had so been looking forward to that hooked us down in the lower portion.
While sitting up there we ended up making a brand new reservation down below because while the ambiance is great, the food/selection was subpar as well as the service. Because of which, I don’t think we will be back though I was glad we gave it a shot.
Haute was a nice spot for drinks. I would not recommend this lounge for dinner, as the options for food were limited, and not worth the price. Haute does not have a host stand, so the servers were responsible for seating guests which they clearly didn't have time for, I waited around for a few minutes until someone greeted me. The service was slow, but the waitstaff was nice. Haute is definitely still figuring out its vibe. The menu and staff appear to be that of an expensive restaurant, however, the attentiveness and knowledge of the menu was not there. We will go back, but only for drinks after dinner, if we're not in a rush, and not with a group of people.
Beautiful place to experience views of Grand Rapids. Beverage options were typical. Only went for a drink so I can't speak to the food. Great ambiance.
Slow service. We waited 30 min before a waiter came to our table for the first time.
Table was late so it was suggested that we get a drink at the bar. The bartender, who was new and the only one on so not her fault, took 25 minutes to get the drinks to us. By then, the table was ready but we were told we could. It bring our drinks up. We were told we could finish our drinks at the bar but they might not hold our table. Ridiculous. Once upstairs we discovered it is only hors d’œuvres and they were out of many things. Drink selection is very limited. It felt very prescriptive and bossy with all the rules. For somewhere that seems like they are trying to provide an elite experience, customers seem treated quite poorly.
Absolutely loved the rooftop deck—has a great vibe! I would recommend it as a great place for after dinner drinks.
The reservation-only policy is asinine... and then only possible via the OpenTable app? I like OpenTable just fine, but that we had to make a reservation on it while standing at the host stand, overhearing on the walkie-talkie that there were three tables available... and then still have to wait 45 minutes at the bar?!? The view from the roof was great and the vibe of the bar was very cool, but this policy put a damper on the entire experience. This place is not amazing enough to justify treating your customers this way.
the drinks were way to expensive (didn't even have any beer yet they had plenty of draft downstairs), the service was terrible, we were required to make a reservation even though there were only 2 other people there. the decor looked like my grandmas backyard and nothing matched. if you are just looking for a casual drink somewhere don't go here it took us over a half hour to be "aloud" up for no reason. The server had no idea what he was doing. there were 20 things on the whole drink menu and not a one was under 15 dollars i get you want to be high end and upscale but there is no need for that.
Great spot that overlooks the city. Be sure to reserve a table early because seats go fast!
Absolutely loved the view and atmosphere, but paid $15 for an incredibly mediocre cocktail. The whole table agreed their drinks were sub-par ... yet, premium prices?? Would love to see them improve selection and offer a more hand-crafted cocktail experience.
We're looking forward to going back, but I truly hope to see improvements as they figure things out.
We Really wanted to enjoy this, because Grand Rapids needs rooftop dining. However, the menu was exceptionally limited (postcard sized) and very eccentric. Honestly, there was nothing that looked good to us, so we just each had a cocktail in order to enjoy the ambiance, then we left. On the Plus side, it is a good location and has good views and "feel". I just don't think we'd return.
SLOW service. 15 mins for
First cocktail. 20 mins for 2nd. Bread and cheese order
never came. We
Also ordered a $100 seafood tower. It arrived and still no bread. We asked for bread to be taken off
Of our bill. Manager took &30
Great ambiance on rooftop. Heaters were not
On. We asked and one was turned on. Cool eve. They should have steady had them on.
Great setting, cool restaurant. They need to figure this out!
absolutely outstanding place. amazing people great service. phenomenal view of Founders oh and the rest of GR love the concept and the different foods they are doing. can be both casual or dressed up either is comfortable. keep up the great work, sad that the season is coming to an end....
We enjoyed the view a lot! Great amibance but very expensive & minimal food choices. Would reccomend adding some more food & drinks at more afordable prices
Beautiful view, romantic setting, fantastic food!
Nice patio, nice view. Appetizer and dessert (apple tart) were uninspired and it was REALLY overpriced.
The rooftop is small with awesome views of the city. With only 1 server for the rooftop he was wore thin and running all over the place. However, when the fireplace was lit and the hanging lights were on the vibe was one that can’t be beat in the Grand Rapids area. The wines also are amazing and before we left we enjoyed coffee and that is amazing too.
Lovely ambiance and delicious drinks. Higher price point (and that was only for drinks- we didn't eat the food) but we knew that going in. Perfect for a one drink special occasion.
There is a lot of potential here and I think/hope we were caught up in the learning curve of a new opening. People around us were complaining of slow service, and some that had not been helped at all after being seated for over 15 minutes. The menu is much too limited and the wine selection poor. Our waiter was extremely friendly but I saw no one there to help/assist him. You are not allowed to buy a drink on the first floor while you are waiting to go up unless you can finish before you go, definitely not a good idea. I truly enjoy the rooftop experiences I have had in Chicago. If you are going to hold credit cards for no shows, late shows etc, like they do in Chicago, the experience and definitely the choices need to be similar. We left frustrated and hungry. Great potential, a lot of work needed.
Server ignored us the first ten minutes. She acted like she didn’t want to be there. Even when she did bring water & menus, she barely put them down in front of us. Fortunately, the chef decided to take care of us when the server all but disappeared. If you are going to have a two hour time limit for the rooftop deck, then the server should be a decent person. The chef cannot do it all.
The view was fabulous!

Yes, you can generally book this restaurant by choosing the date, time and party size on OpenTable. Due to local restrictions, this restaurant may not be accepting reservations at the moment.
