Merriman's – Waimea – Big Island Ratings and Reviews
Great service. Great food for lunch option - good value. Accepted Ohana Vacation rewards card for free dessert with order of two entrees. Fine appetizers, prompt service even for busy lunch time at 12:15-12:30. Great french press coffee for 4 cups+, tasting of the Hardens coffee advertised in front. Recommend for lunch. Easy to reserve on OpenTable.
Our dining experience was fabulous! From start to finish... each entree was perfect. We really appreciate the 'Swarm Service" with five it sometimes feels like a wait for each person to receive there dish. I personally appreciate the continued effort to offer a superior dining experience. We will continue to bring family and friends for all occasions.
The food here is fantastic! We ate here on the third night of our vacation and liked it so much we came back on the last night of five nights. Service was excellent. Creative menu using local fresh ingredients. The pineapple macadamia nut bread pudding was heavenly. This is well worth the drive to Waimea.
We had a 5:30 PM reservation with our four year old granddaughter. The service was “lightning” fast. Almost unbelievable. We were served in less than 10 minutes after we ordered which was perfect with a young child. My wife’s seared ahi was excellent. However, my lamb was both good and bad. Half of the lamb portion was braised and very tasty but the sliced portion was over cooked and tough. The chocolate purse desert was outstanding as always. The meal was very expensive.
Sparkling gem of a Restaraunt. Friendly, prompt service. Delicious ceasar salad with fried green tomatoes as garnish. Taro enchiladas. Mojito made with beets “mobeeto” and a virgin Mai Tai. Lilikoi mousse, coconut creme brûlée for dessert. Service was wonderful. Cozy interior. Everyone looked like they were having fun. We went with our three kids and they have a lot of choice on the kids menu. They whipped up a kids bow tie pasta with mushrooms for my son that was yummy. Sauces were exquisite and not heavy or greasy. Mongchong was perfectly cooked.
A total delight!
One of the absolute best meals we’ve ever shared. Sara our server was lovely and attentive. The food, all farm to table was amazing. Not only was the food comforting but surprising as well. Who would have though a fried caper could be life changing!?! The staff was also generous with their stories and with preparations. I won’t spoil their secrets here but can’t wait to try them at home. As for all you fine readers, you need to go...now, I mean it. Go now if you have the chance.
I'm almost didn't go due to few negative reviews here but I'm glad I've decided to have my our opinion. The food was great with perfect fusion between Asian, American and local affairs, with garden fresh ingredients and some local wines and artisanal coffee to try. Service was quite on par with the food too, may be a little slow, but very attentive overall. Just go here - it probably will be the best meal you had on Hawaii.
Our hotel staff recommended this restaurant. We were very disappointed. First the service - it was slower than slow. We watched 4 other tables come in AFTER we finally ordered and all 4 got their food before we did - and we only had hamburgers. As for the food - it was slightly warm and lacked flavor. Would not recommend.
Merriman's is my all time favorite dining place for over 2 decades. This time I'm so happy to get Peter Merriman's cookbook with the inspiring story of his collaborative journey of authentic local sourced cuisine & stewardship of Hawaii (the farmers, ranchers, fishermen & all others involved)
Very disappointing. Been here many times, food had no real flavor, wait staff never came back to ask about our food and never refilled our wine glasses. Use to be one of our favorites but seems to be living off the reputation now. Much better options for fresh fish at much less money.
