I didn’t think it was possible! We had the perfect evening with friends on Sunday night at Merriman’s. It was one of those evenings where everything was just right - food was fabulous, ambience was just right, wine was amazing, waitress was fun, service was great, - everything worked!
We enjoyed it so much we went back Tuesday night with another couple - waiter was different but equally good. Another PERFECT evening!
We chose the tasting menu which, in my mind, is the only way to go - it would be such a waste, when the food is THIS good, to not at least sample EVERYTHING!
Thank you Merriman’s for doing what you do and PLEASE, don’t change a SINGLE thing!!!
A must-try when on the Big Island. About a 25 min drive or so from Waikoloa. Great for a special occasion! We celebrated our anniversary and they were so nice to give us a small glass or bubbly to toast with! If you have 4 or more people- try the prix fix course! You won't regret it!
The food was excellent and the service up to that. Great place to have dinner. Would abs absolutely go again.
Merriman’s was excellent as always. Not my first time nor will it be my last. Always a highlight of my Big Island visits. Well done!
This restaurant is always our favorite and most anticipated reservation on the Big Island. Unfortunately this time was a huge disappointment.
Don’t know that we will return.
Love to be part of a successful restaurants energy!
Merriman's does an excellent job managing on-time seating when they have 2 to 3 + table turns.
Great overall experience. Great ambiance. Restaurant was too noisy at first for my parents, but it calmed down as the night went on.
This was by far the best dining experience of our 3-week stay on island. The service was beyond expectations. It started with us arriving before opening. As we were waiting, one of our party mentioned how dry her mouth felt. The hostess took it upon herself to get a glass of ice water for her. The server was fantastic in going through the menu and helping us to find selections that would fit some fairly particular dietary restrictions. The food came and was fantastic (ahi, filet and kampachi . One sauce was a problem. The server noticed this. She and the manager offered a substitute and brought a new plate. The manager was cordial and attentive. It was a wonderful evening. This has always been one of our favorite restaurants but it just seems to get better and better.
Excellent on all levels. Never disappoints. An annual pilgrimage that is always rewarded. Mahalo Merriman’s.
Excellent farm to table food! Highly recommended Merrimans. Outstanding service too!
The meal was amazing and the service was outstanding!
Best Dinner On The Island.
The service from everyone we came into contact with was wonderful. The server was knowledgeable and her wine and food recommendations were spot on! Food was delicious, but would have liked to see larger portions. Ambiance was exactly what we had hoped for. Highly recommend!
Outstanding food and service. Worth the drive. Lives up to its well-deserved reputation. It feels like a special occasion destination, and the white tablecloths suggest a more formal ambience than the super casual dress provides; also was surprised to see families with young children at dinner where the menu seems (and prices) seem more geared to adults. I just was a bit confused by the mixed messages. That said, it was nice to have a dressy experience, food and service without having to dress up.
My only complaint is that once you've paid $40 for an entree and $15 for a simple green salad, $10 for a cup of coffee seems over the edge.
Still one of the most consistently outstanding restaurants I have been too, worldwide. The quality and creativity of the food, and the care in which it is prepared is second to none. This restaurant is without a question expensive, but when you consider what you pay for an even average dining experience on the Big Island it is worth the price, especially for a special occasion. The service is excellent. The atmosphere is bright and welcoming. The food incorporates local fish, vegetables and meats, and I have yet to be disappointed.
Several friends and all the publications said it was a cant miss Meal of a lifetime place and it was simply flat.
Overseasoned Lobster Pot Pie that all you could taste was Pepper and Lobster and Scallops were overcooked.
Desserts were good with the Pineapple Bread Pudding memorable and Great Wine List but overall below average and Very Expensive.
Passed by many times, first time dining. Have we made a mistake by not stopping for years.
Wonderful staff, great food, we'll be back!
Excellent staff. Didn’t feel rushed. Food was excellent has it has been in the other Merriman’s we have visited
As usual - Merriman's (no matter the location) always delivers. We've now dined at all of their locations in Hawaii and we must say we LOVED the original! While each is unique in setting and scene, you MUST see the start of great dining and gastronomy. It's worth the drive... and doesn't need a sunset to deliver (it rained on us driving to and back...).
Service, Food, Delivery and dietary accommodations & menu suggestions were all excellent.
We went to the Big Island with our sons and their families to celebrate our 50th wedding anniversary. We have been to this island several times, but it was a first to dine at Merriman's.
It's a very popular place in Waimea and needs reservations; when I called to get a group table, they not so politely said nothing was available for our group at our desired time and wouldn't try to help with alternative seating.
We subsequently decided to go there anyway so made a reservation for a later time on Open Table. The restaurant called back the following day to confirm, and that caller was much more helpful and we were able to move up our reservation to our originally desired time slot...?!
The restaurant was completely full, and parking was difficult...no valet parking to help with that. Our table was ready, but crammed into a corner and not suitable for a group. However, the host was very helpful in quickly arranging a more suitable location for us.
Finally getting to the meal; our server was great: very warm and welcoming with insightful information on choices of food and beverages. All of us loved our meal choices and found the quality and taste to be superb, and worth of the high praise found in descriptions of Merriman's.
Bottom line: the food is great, but because it's so well regarded, be prepared to deal with the inconvenience of getting in to experience it.
Wonderful food and service! Staff went above and beyond to find us a ride back to the hotel, when we were stranded unexpectedly.
Excellent food and service, we always take the time to eat here when on the big island.
The Mai Tai was excellent. The hamburger was very good. The shrimp were a bit over cooked. The bread pudding was excellent. Our wait person was excellent. Would go there again.
Great server Luana! Food and service was excellent.
Read the wonderful reviews and was not disappointed
What a special place. We had fabulous service and a delicious meal. Top notch farm to table food concept. Highly recommend and looking forward to my next visit on the Big Island to visit again!
nice ambience, attractive menu, food presentation good, excellent wine list--seafood was overcooked, however, and drinks not expertly repaired, with overall impression of overpriced dining experience given at most fair quality of main specialty seafood courses (steak was prepared nicely, by report of one of our diners).
We have been going to Merriman's on occasional visits to Hawaii for about 15 years. This lovely restaurant delivered an excellent meal once again. The setting is friendly and comfortable, the service is excellent (thank you, Jim and colleagues!), the food and drinks are delicious, and the experience is enjoyable from start to finish. We were especially impressed on this visit with the extensive wine list and Jim's deep knowledge about the choices. He helped me find the best white wine by the glass for me - and knew in which part of Italy the winery is located. We also highly recommend the coconut creme brulee for dessert!
The ambiance is nice, the locally sourced ingredients were very fresh and prepared simply and tastefully. The goat cheese with strawberries and arugula was excellent. The lamb was perfectly prepared, the local shrimp were delicious, however the opakapaka was undercooked.
Really great food and atmosphere. The whole restaurant was lively and everyone seemed to be having a great time and meal
Fantastic food, service and ambiance! Will be back for sure!
Best place to eat on Big Island
The food and service were excellent. The fresh fish and locally sourced vegetables outstanding. The restaurant was very crowded the evening we dined and the noise level is quite high. Even with the noise, I would highly recommend Merriman's.
Wonderful as ever. We had the tomato soup, delicious. Fresh catch was perfect. The Zero proof drinks were delicious. Can't wait to return.
Great good. Excellent service, friendly advice and terrific food. As always best good on big island.
Merriman’s our favorite neighbor island restaurant.
Wonderful entree preparation
Food always good!
Poke outstanding fresh delicious wonderful starter for lunch or dinner. Will be back
Outstanding once again! They never disappoint, always well thought out dishes, great execution, great service, and great ambiance!
Celebrating an accomplishment.
Day-caught fish was wonderful. The lamb was pretty tough.
This....This is the restaurant and meals my memory will take to the afterlife!
