Thought the humus was too sour citrus flavor. Specials were great. Wife didn't like the vegetarian enchilatas. Other than that, everything else was incredible, even the sides.

Love this restaurant. Ate there multiple times during my recent vacation. The food is delicious. Good quality and cooked to perfection. As others have mentioned the green tomatoes croutons are yummy! Tried the Ahi- wok charred for the first time and loved it! Chocolate purses are always delicious. Also timelier the conga bar. Yum!

We had a delicious dinner with friends. The restaurant feels warm and inviting. We shared some appetizers (cavatelli was delicious). Everyone had an entree. The fresh fish and farm to table choices were fresh and delicious

While we have come for the food before (and we certainly were not disappointed) our server was what made the meal. She was joyful, and when we asked for recommendations (instead of spouting off her favorite) she asked questions about what we like and the recommended the lamb for me, filet of beef for my wife and cast iron skillet chicken for my daughter. We all LOVED our dishes.

Food was amazing, overall a great place to celebrate my partner’s birthday. Before I could make a request, our waitress brought us a complimentary birthday cake/dessert for her; and it was deee-licious! If we ever find ourselves back in Kona, we would definitely be back.

We truly enjoyed our meal and we had a very nice waiter (Howard).

Unfortunately we (a group of 6) had a special evening planned with friends that we met in Galápagos Islands. They Ubered up from The Fairmont and we drove from Kona. The staff was awesome and accommodating, unfortunately the kitchen let them down tonight. I had the special Opakpaka and 2 others had Kampachi, one had prime rib because they were out of tenderloin, one had shrimp and another had 2 appetizers. Caesar salads were under dressed and not much flavour. Prime rib and shrimp dish was awesome. Opakapaka any Kampachi were over cooked ! Of course someone will say you should have brought this to our attention. Who wants to make a scene and eat after the rest of our group. Quality control is the responsibility of the restaurant , not the customers. This is high end not some mom and pop place!

I have eaten here more than 50 times over the last 15 years of coming to the big island. We always eat here 5 or 6 times during our stay. This time things have been different. The portions which have always been on the smaller side were tiny. My 4 oz. fish was burned and the prawns were also. I usually don't comment to wait staff or managers but did this time. Manager actually told me no one else has said anything insinuating that I was making it up. Well sir, that may have been true but didn't mean mine wasn't terrible. I hope it was just a fluke because the best meals I've ever had were here.

A truly memorable birthday dining experience! Every single staff member treated us like valued and appreciated guests. The food, as usual, was outstanding. This is the restaurant that we recommend and also visit during every visit to the Big Island.

Merriman's has always been one of the exceptional fine-dining restaurants on the Big Island. We live on the island full-time, have been to Merriman's many times and some of our guests have said that they believe Merriman's is the best restaurant on the island and serves some of the tastiest food they have ever eaten. Amazingly, Merriman's is now even better because a new extremely creative head chef has started cooking there! This new head chef is very talented and has been trained by chefs who were taught by the Hawaiian cooking master Alan Wong. In addition to the wonderful food, the service is always professional and helpful navigating through the menu and wine list.

Beautiful restaurant but the food is the reason to dine here. We enjoyed 2 separate dining experiences here in 1 week while visiting the Big Island. The cavatappi and clam appetizers are both wonderful and would highly recommend the fresh catch and the lobster entrees. For dessert, the chocolate purse was so good, we ordered it both trips. Service was prompt and friendly and we felt we had a great dining experience. Highly recommend!!!

Too bad its so loud - its very fine dining and farm-to-table, but we found it hard to have decent conversations about the servings (or anything else). The food was outstanding. OK wine list but fairly overpriced, which of course much of Hawaii is. But still, outstanding food and flavors and highly recommended.

Kathleen seated us and served our meal , she was very sweet and easy to talk with.
Emiko, our server also radiated happiness and enthusiasm about menu choices.
A young man with a Big smile (I didn’t get his name) , efficiently filled our water glasses and cleared our plates.
It is obvious that Peter Merriman has instilled an attitude of quality served with BIG doses of happiness and friendliness!
We are huge fans!
Merriman’s are our favorite restaurants on Kauai, Maui and Hawai’i
Now I need to try to make the Chocolate Purse dessert on my own!

Completely wonderful experience. Our table was available when we walked in...great start. Then our server, Lusna, was exceptional. My wife had the lamb shank and she said maybe the best ever, I enjoyed the filet of Parker Ranch beef which was delicious and perfectly cooked. The dessert of coconut and pineapple bread pudding and French press decaf coffee was a marvelous ending.
