Merriman's Fish House - Poipu, Kauai
Outstanding, as usual!
Best meal we had on Kauai. Best service by Steven, too. Just great!!
Excellent seafood special, Mai tai is the best. Pricey, but to be expected.
We had requested one of two specific tables for four and arrived on time to find they had both been given to other parties. We were given a table set for five that was too large for easy conversation among four people. Not good.
Accommodated us last minute with a fantastic sunset view for our anniversary.
Outstanding views, good service, food was below expectations.
We have visited Kauai for the past 22 years & love the wonderful restaurants the island has to offer - especially in Poipu. Merriman’s is not one of them. Our family dined there last night. We ordered 3 different seafood dishes. I ordered the mahi-mahi which arrived barely cooked, not flaky at all - raw. I brought it to the attention of our server, who agreed that it was way undercooked. He took the fish & said it would be replaced. We waited, & waited. We waited so long that my husband & daughter completely finished their meals, had their plates removed & I still had no meal! My meal finally came, & while the mahi was now prepared better (flaky), it arrived in a pool of oil & was by far the worst mahi-mahi I have ever had in Kauai. As I ate my meal alone, our server told us that my meal would be comped. When we got our check, we were actually charged for 2 orders of mahi-mahi - & comped for one! When we brought it to the attention to our server, he apologized - again - & removed it from our check. The manager never came to our table. We were very disappointed by this entire experience. In 22 years I have never written a bad review of a restaurant in Poipu but felt compelled to do so after our experience last night.
There were 10 of us and we all really enjoyed our meal! Our 12 days and 3 different island it was one of my favorites!
We got the seafood special of Mahi Mahi and shrimp and it was probably our best dinner in Kauai. Paired with a nice wine; our server was excellent. Would pass on the arugula and goat cheese salad next time.
It was our EIGHTH New Year’s Eve at Merriman’s and we’ve made our reservation for 2019 already. This is a special tradition for us, since we’re not exactly young anymore, have been married for only eight years and live in Canada for most of the year.
We celebrated New Year’s Eve with our teenagers st Merriman’s. It was delicious!
Very good, all around.
Very nice. The mahi mahi was very good and the ahi was cooked perfectly. The dessert was over-the-top Delicious. Enjoy!
Not very impressed with Merriman’s Fish House - the tuna and lobster were over cooked at cold.... there are better restaurants, with better value, in the area
Loved our server Jessica.
Overrated and expensive. Save your money and go to Jo2 instead!
Very disappointed about this Kauai Merriman‘s- is definetly not the quality in food ((for us fish), in preparation and taste of all diner courses we usaually know from our Meeriman‘s like in Maui or Big Island.
Spectacular food and amazing service
Service was horrible and very disappointing on Christmas! Dinner was more than $100/person and the waiter was inattentive. We literally had to flag down other servers for help! Will NEVER go back or recommend to anyone. There are just too many other options.
Not the same experience we had last year. Rigid on menu. Kids menu not appropriate for kids. Chef seems obsessed with making things too spicy. Need better understanding of consumer needs.
Went for Christmas pre-fixe dinner. Truly wonderful with enough options for everyone. At $70 for appetizer, main and dessert it was reasonable for the quality. Nice ambiance and excellent service. Highly recommend.
Christmas dinner at Merrimans was a wonderful holiday treat. The food and service were fantastic. The views were amazing! A definite must when in Kauai!
Christmas eve dinner with preset menu - the food was great, came fast and cooked very well. Service was very friendly. The menu was a bit pricey but given this was Christmas eve dinner, it was a really enjoyable experience.
This seems to be an over rated place. Food quality and taste was below average. Service was good and people were nice but chef probably was a novice.
I never thought I would find a beef filet that would replace my favorite from Bakersfield or Valdez but now I have. It was tender and perfectly prepared. Thank you very much. We will have to return to Kauai just for your steaks.
Great fish restaurant.
We had skipped Merriman’s last year on our trip to Kauai and were so pleased with how much better everything was. We split a chocolate purse for dessert and it was to die for !
Every time we visit Kauai we look forward to our evening at Merriman's Fish House. As usual it did not disappoint. Excellent service, great atmosphere and outstanding food. They have a great wine list too. The live music (solo guitarist) is a nice addition without being too loud.
This is a fine looking restaurant. We greatly enjoyed the 3C soup: clam, corn, and coconut. Our problem was with the main course, the "special", which was at a menu high $49. It was mahimahi with 3 large shrimp. The shrimp were very good; the fish, with its totally bland sauce, was tasteless and thus highly disappointing---much as last December, in our last visit to Merriman's, we had found our featured fish far too salty. This is a lovely restaurant but must pay greater attention to basics.
A fabulous experience! The food was delicious, the ambiance was festive and the staff was exceptionally attentive. The wine list was excellent and reasonably priced and food was from local farmers. We had been to the Kauai location in the Poipu/Koloa area, which was just okay. It was a pleasure to dine at the Waimea location - we felt so special as well taken care of.
Just returned from Merriman's in Kauai and we had an outstanding dinner for our last night on the island. The bartender was great as she made terrific Old Fashions. The dinner was perfect and the service suburb. We look forward to coming back in 2019.
Good was delicious. Service was excellent. Nice wine list.
Overall, great meal
Awesome food and service
Best restuarant on Kauai. We always eat here at least twice while visiting every year.
Great setting, beautiful sunset in the back with increasingly ocean view. Staff was very nice and courteous. Food was great. Pricey but worth it in my opinion.
Food was great and our waiter took the time to explain all the fish preparations even though he was very busy
Merriman's Fish House is regarded as one of the best local restaurants. As a resident of Kauai, I will confirm that it is one of the best, but compared to restaurants around the world it comes up short. It's still very nice, if you're willing to spend heaps and get average to slightly better than average food. For this particular visit, the beans were unedible because they were too old and tough. Overall, we paid $180 for something that should have cost half that, but the restaurant is in a tourist area and they charge through the nose for that. Welcome to Hawaii tourism!
Excellent food and service.
Overpriced. Lovely setting. Between the two of us We had one good soup, one simple garden salad (lettuce, a couple of slices of radish and tomatoes), two tiny crab/lobster cakes and four over- cooked shrimp, (the last two dishes were appetizers), and two house special mai tais. Total cost $93.00. Would not go back.
We were disappointed in our food for the most part. We've eaten here before and enjoyed it but this time the food was only fair - fish overcooked, steak not top rate. When we pay this much we expect the food to be superb. Service was fine - it was all about the food and our disappointment with it.
