Excellent dinner. Highly recommend. Great dining experience
It’s too bad this upscale eatery didn’t have the garlic steak that was in the inflight magazine..... so overall food was just ok nothing Spectacular at all just too bad
The special, Mahi Mahi and shrimp, was amazing. The Mai Tai’s are second to none. Our waitress (Jessica, I believe) was outstanding.
All of the dishes were delicious. The entertainment was an acoustic guitarist covering Neil Young and Tom Petty, how can you beat that? Would highly recommend.
We were seated on the balcony which at first look was great as the view was perfect for the sunset. But sadly right below the balcony is the trash site for the whole shopping center. During the meal a garbage truck came to make a pick up and then several shops/restaurants made drop offs.
Also the fact that we were the last table on the balcony meant that we were forgotten about several times.
The server was very sweet, and the food was pretty good so maybe sitting inside might have been a better experience, but I would not recommend the balcony.
This restaurant is vastly overpriced. Great location with decent service. It is sad when they have to place a 2% service charge to offer the kitchen help. With the high prices they are more than able to cover the costs of good kitchen help, rather than pass through to the dining public.
The menu has some good options for both beef/seafood lovers and vegetarians (and some interesting dishes with Korean influences). Top-notch, friendly service. Convenient location with lots of parking. It has a sort of upscale island vibe. It's a bit expensive but in line with similar places on Kauai. I'd definitely go back.
The waiter was terrible, and my nephew knew Ely .
My martini was luke warm, told him, didn’t seems to care . 2 of us asked for medium rare steaks, 1 was good the other well done.
Fish was just okay .
Very disappointed, as I took my son and his girlfriend, who had not ever dined there before.
I’ve gone several times for dinner & this was the first time, we were disappointed.
First time visit after coming to the island for many years. Food was excellent and so was the sunset. Brandon, our waiter... A+
Menu choices not great. Food was mediocre at best. Cocktails not good. Won’t be back.
We thoroughly enjoyed our dinner! Delicious food, great atmosphere. The lady singer who provides live entertainment on Friday and Saturday nights is fantastic. Loved it!
The best dining experience we had on Island! Steak was fantastic, fish was fresh, beautiful live music. Staff was the great, of all the places we dined in Po'ipu area we like Merrimans the best! Would recommend
Merriman's never disappoints. No matter which island...
Great service. Friendly staff. Food was excellent. Top notch!
Love it. Great view. Food was fantastic. Excellent service. Lobster crab cake was wonderful. Unhurried laid back but attentive service.
Will definitely go back.
Food was just okay. Hubs had the special and I had a salad. He said it was pretty good. The service was terrible. I was drivIng so no bar service for me, just a coke and water. Hubs had a mule, which was tasty. I had to ask for water refill 4 times before it was refilled. Waiter came to our table several time to see bring my water and coke empty and no refills came, not even from the guys who’s job it is to refill water. I guess the thing that was most irritating is when my hubs finished his meal and I wasn’t done with my salad, the busboy cleared his plate and assumed I was done too. Before I could stop him, he grabbed other things from the table and put on top of my not finished salad. Couldn’t finish it with our appitizer plate now sitting atop. Overall not a good experience. Wouldn’t go back.
Peter merriman does it again! His Poipu restaurant lives up to the Merriman gold standard
Great food and fabulous music by Keola. The service was good and I especially loved the soup. I will be coming back soon!
Fishing for compliments should be below you. But what can be expected from a chain.
Have dined here on several occasions but have the feeling Merrimans might be trading on reputation now.
We were cheerfully greeted and given a great table. The server was obviously new and inexperienced in “fine dining “. We ordered cocktails and that took a while so we ordered our entree and specifically asked that he delay entering our order so we could enjoy our drinks and the musician playing in the lounge area.
Drinks arrived and a few moments later he brought our meals!
When we asked the server why he ignored our request to hold off he shrugged and asked if we wanted more water.
Our meals were very good but not exceptional as they often were before.
Overall Merrimans on Kauai is not nearly as good as the Maui location and easy to see why its not as busy.
Warm hospitality and outstanding use of local ingredients prepared in a manner that they ingredients are the star and incredibly delish.
We had a wonderful dinner with excellent service. There were no complaints from anyone in our extremely picky family! The sunset view was a beautiful highlight!
We visited Merriman's Fish House on the last night of our Kauai vacation. It was among the best eating experiences on the island (there were a lot of misses). We had the fish special and the taro enchilada, both good, and also hot, not just lukewarm like many other places. I tried the Merriman's Mai Tai which was delicious and presented very well. Their draft pale ale from Maui Brewing was excellent. Good choice of draft beers in general which is hard to find in this spot in Kauai. Their bread pudding completed a very satisfactory dinner. Service was attentive and food and drinks came promptly. The only thing I disliked was the loud music on the ground level. It was a community event with a live band playing in the space between Merriman's and the Dolphin restaurants. It was hard to have a conversation so we just tried to enjoy the music but it wasn't terribly pleasant. Do your research and maybe skip the nights with live entertainment. Otherwise much recommended.
The entire staff was very hospitable. The service was excellent and the service was superb. Thank you for a great experience. The management should be recognized for running a smooth operation.
Everyone enjoyed their meals. House crafted cocktails were very good also. We had good service. They are so fancy, when our meals came out they are presented all at once. Very pretty sunset views, sunglasses needed on a non cloudy evening.
OMG!! Best dinner EVER hands down and I travel all over for work!
Went to Merriman’s to celebrate a big anniversary and not disappointed. Food and ambiance were great and wait staff was very attentive.
The appetizer, salad a dessert were very nice. However, my wife and I like to split salads and appetizers as ordering them individually is too much. Apparently this restaurant will not split plates. The wine list is nice but pricey. The entree menu is surprisingly limited. The entrees are overpriced for what they are. My wife's fish special was plopped into the middle of pool of polenta. Would not go back, does not live up to the hype.
Great place. Your credit card will suffer some heat.
Aubrey was great
Veranda had nice view ocean and sunset, not on the waterfront. Service friendly and willing to make changes to accommodate diet restrictions. Excellent desserts. Caesar salad with fried green tomatoes a stand out. MaiTai delicious but I do not understand Foam. When all said, had a wonderful evening.
I normally write glowing reviews of good restaurants, and my expectations were high for Merriman's after all I'd researched. Without a doubt, they have good food and a lovely setting. But, the service was not good and the whole, disappointing evening was punctuated by a bill that had over $60 of undue charges on it. We honestly wondered if they were intentionally trying to cheat us. Here's the summary: (1) our Hotel informed them it was our Anniversary that night, and we exchanged cards and gifts at the table; but the restaurant NEVER acknowledged our Anniversary, which spoiled our celebration a bit; (2) my husband's fish, which should have been perfection at this type of restaurant, was woefully overdone; (3) the bill came and had THREE entree's charged to us; it was fairly obvious that there were only 2 of us; (4) we both ordered the Wine Flight for $25 each; but, the bill had charges for 1 flight at $25. And the other charged as 3 separate glasses of wine at $15 or $16 a piece. Fortunately, we had a MUCH better meal the following night at the neighboring Eating House 1849 by Roy Yamaguchi. And they insisted on celebrating our post-Anniversary, too! Highly recommend the Eating House!
We ate at Merriman's our last night on the island and only wished we dined here sooner. The restaurant is set on an old Poipu plantation and we loved the wash of light coming down over the fields as the sun set. The menu was inventive but true to to the classics...everything stayed mostly local or sustainable. We had the macademia crusted kampachi, ono, lime and coconut ceviche. Even their fresh baked bread was delightful. The market area below the restaurant gets super busy at night with visitors lined up for shave ice and lappert's but it was a relaxing evening spent with family.
Deliciously prepared. Polished but friendly service. Beautiful setting. Loved it.
This was our last night on Kaua’i and the evening was perfectly lovely. The finishing touches with Merriman’s macadamia nut shortbread cookies topped off a wonderful meal.
Great dinner and beautiful sunset view. Nice atmosphere and friendly staff.
Wonderful meal start to finish with excellent service !
Excellent meal and service by Camille! Great experience! Thanks!!!
Service staff, esp the front desk/reception were amazing. Several guest from my party were VERY late and she held the table for us in spite of it being a busy evening. Very Aloha spirited team.. thank you for the best dining experience i had on the island.
They accidentally had ceviche in my Caesar salad because the staging area was close together. It was Ali my shock to the texture and unacceptable.
