Absolutely the best meal we’ve had on the island. And service was outstanding.
Ambience is great but the food was average at best. Ordered Seared Ahi with Cabbage Slaw. Ahi was over seared and burned black with bitter taste. Had to cut the seared part off to make it edible. Cabbage Slaw was basically shredded cabbage with few pieces of bean sprouts and no dressing whatsoever.
Not worth the price.
This was our second time to Merrimans, having been here in 2016. Our meals were both delicious but there was no welcome feeling from either the host or our server. It was a very impersonal experience and when dining somewhere special on vacation, and spending a decent amount for entrees ($40+ range), they should provide a more memorable dinner.
Last time we were here, we also enjoyed it, but for some reason it didn't stand out. I realized it must have been that same vibe.
The overall experience was good. There were a couple of negatives. First, we were not seated until 30 minutes after our reservation time. There was no effort made during that time to offer us the opportunity to order drinks or appetizers. Also, the restaurant was extremely loud.
On positive notes, our server, Linc, was wonderful. Also, the wine list was extensive and the tasting menu was amazing.
Having looked at reviews, we asked for a quiet table out on the lanai. We were pleasantly surprised that staff read our request in Open Table and seated us the quietest, most romantic table with sunset views. Link, the server, and the helpers were most professional. Service was fast, food was absolutely delicious. Wine was perfect. Expensive by Hawaii standards, but well worth it for special occasions.
We'd call this "Casual fine dining" at it's finest. The very best staff. All the waiters wore ties, were extremely attentive, professional and courteous--but personable and friendly, keeping it from feeling stuffy and pretentious. It had a very relaxed island vibe and it's reflected in the menu and ambience. The food was heavenly and reasonable for the way it's pepared and presented. The one tiny exception was the "add on to any entree-lobster". It was melt-in- your-mouth perfection but it was a bit frugal and sloppy looking. Still, it tasted very good.
The bread basket was very flavorful. The suprise complimentary dessert was perfect. Best restaurant merlot I've tasted in a year. So glad I asked for the waiter's suggestion and he advised the Kampachi entree. It was spot on.
We saw the most beautiful sunset! Our food was delicious and the service was amazing. We will definitely be back!
Food was good - dirty martinis not up to par / lovely setting / sommelier on staff - excellent!!
Our Server, Jakob was wonderful, the food really good. Go you won’t be disappointed oh and get dessert it’s magnificent!
Food was not great i was very disappointed especially for an important evening. Luckily the salmon was great but not enough to sway our opinion of the rest of the food
Requested a sunset view table for a day before Valentine’s Day dinner with friends. Service, food and wine list are exceptional. Post dinner (tasting menu) everyone raved about the food. The combination of the setting, wine, and the food made for the best meal we had on the island. We have refined food and wine tastes among our two couples and were treated to an outstanding evening at Merriman’s. We’ll be back.
The food was excellent but our server, Justin, was terrible. Did not come back to ask how the meal was and we had to ask what the special was. He acted like he didn’t want to be there.
Wonderful dinner, love Merriman’s and love the Macadamia Nut crusted fish. Best service, Link/Eric was utmost professional and very welcoming and knowledgeable! Great!
We had dinner at this restaurant last year when we were in Kauai. Our grand kids loved it and they wanted to come back. The food was excellent and service was very good. We had a wonderful time and we will be back
The staff was very attentive. Food was tasty and portioned well. Cocktails were good but I wish there were more options. They had a lot of wines to choose from but all were really expensive. Overall good experience.
Seafood linguine was delicious.
Top notch in food quality & preparation, service, and atmosphere. Highly recommend.
The food did not taste fresh. My fish was very bland. Not worth the money. I would not return. This review is putting it nicely, in my opinion.
Jackie was given a desert and it had Hawaiian happy birthday written in the plate. Just lovely.
My boyfriend and I went to Merriman’s for my birthday dinner. We felt very disrespected by our waiter Link. He was rude and made several uncalled for and sarcastic remarks. He wasn’t attentive and didn’t rally seem to care how our experience was going. Link made several rude comments to my boyfriend and by his body language and actions you could tell he didn’t like his job very much.
The food here left much to be desired and the price was outrageous! We have been to a lot of different restaurants that excel Merriman’s.
Eating here was a disappointment and to say the least we will not recommend Merriman’s not will we ever dine here again.
