Happy Valentine's Day from Merriman's Fish House!
Wednesday, February 14, 2018
Merriman's served very good food for our table of 8. Ambience was good, Live music for the beginning of our reservation.
Overall positive dining experience - only issue was the live music was too loud - we were present from approximately 6 - 8:15 pm - will eat again before departing the island - a go to restaurant when on Kauia
The catch of the day dish was not edible. Shrimp was dried out and fish was overcooked, dry, tough. Polenta was watery. Neither of us could eat it. Disappointing.
Great experience dining at Merrimans! Excellent service combined with excellent food made for an awesome evening! Highly recommended!
Nice, waitress attentive and fun
The setting is lovely, including wonderful sunset view, and the service was good, but the fish (fresh caught) was over-prepared, too salty and overdone. Very disappointing in a restaurant of this calibre. Keiko's was much better.
We had an opportunity to eat out for dinner each night of our vacation. I was excited about eating at Merriman's Fish House because of our dining experience at their restaurant in Maui so I saved it for last. Our server was awesome and that is why I rated them a 4. Unfortunately, the quality of food didn't hold up to the other top 5 restaurants we visited prior during our trip. I'm sorry to report this but being very honest.
Got off to a bad start when we were seated just as we were ordering a drink at the bar. When we were seated, we were told the happy hour prices were not honored in the dining room. We could pay full price or go back to the bar and take a chance on a table being available later.
The rest of the evening went about that way.
No salt and pepper on the table, and we had to request pepper for the Caesar salad, which was disappointingly lacking in flavor. The entrees were well prepared and flavorful, and the ambience was very nice, with a beautiful view of the Hawaiian sunset.
The wine list was pretentious and very expensive.
Overall, we found this restaurant to be underwhelming and unwelcoming for the price.
Strawberry salad with goat cheese & clam corn chowder were lovely starters. Tasty fresh fish (uku and tempura shrimp and ono)
prepared as ordered. Pineapple bread pudding wasn’t too cloyingly sweet and with coffee a nice end to our meal. Live music added to the sunset and open air atmosphere.
Just being in Hawaii from Boston is a special occasion.
Sunset was spectacular.
Service(?Michael) amazing & so personable & enjoyable.
