I have been to Merriman's before, but my friend hadn't. Our waiter, Stephen, was excellent: friendly but knowledgeable and professional and made sure each course was delivered quickly. He was obviously familiar with the wine list and made some excellent suggestions. "Soup to nuts" it was an excellent meal.
Server was fantastic. Attentive but a good amount of attention. Food was fabulous. We would recommend this place to anyone for any occasion
Our waiter was great, but the food was disappointing.
Besides two of our party of four getting stomach poisoning, the prices are stratospheric for less than creative food. It seems the wine is marked up higher, maybe 4X rather than about 3X which is more usual. Finally and beyond Merrima's extremely high prices (which usually end with a 9, they practice bait and switch by adding 2% (pus tax) for the kitchen help. That is noted on the menu but in the smallest font.
Hello Merriman pay your employees properly and show the true item prices on the menu.
Service and ambiance were excellent. I had the Tempura Ono distracting from the mild and tasty ono and shrimp. I suggest you dial back the chili oil a bit.
Overall best meal i had on Kauai. Justin was amazing. Food was even more! I recommend to everyone! We had 4 different entree and none of them was less than exceptional!
Great food as usual
Sunset always impresses at poipu
We always come back here
Our favorite Merrimans
Merriman's MaiTai is a phenomenal interpretation of this classic cocktail. The service was impeccable, as always. My wife had the fish of the day (pan seared mahi mahi, which was not impressive for flavor or uniqueness). I had the seared Ahi, which was awesome for flavor.
Nice setting to watch sunset but kind of overpriced for what you get.
Cat the bartender was amazing! Everything else was mediocre, especially for price. There’s really nothing special about the place.
Best restaurant seat in Poipu. Period. Also the relaxing atmosphere makes you want to stay for hours compared to the din and busy-ness of say The Beach House. The special night spot of the island.
Gorgeous views, gorgeous food, wonderful service, and a good kids menu.
Food was good! The No Ka Oi drink was not great! Not enough lime and light on alcohol. Mai tais were good but not as good as the Monkeypod version of the same drink. The quesadilla and tempura fish and shrimp were both terrific! Special frito mixto and fish were also fantastic!
Anniversary - we really enjoy happy hour here several times every year. Dinner was great and we LOVE Ola’s music - he’s first class!
We had the family style dinner for four. May have been the most money I’ve ever spent for a meal out but was without question the best meal out I’ve ever had! Highly recommended.
Great food and nice atmosphere
Fresh and delicious
The view was spectacular as well as our server Justin. Food is delicious.
I totally messed up and made my reservations for the wrong Island. We were super bummed because we were celebrating my husbands 40th. They were crazy busy but found a place for us. We had the most amazing dinner with out of this world service! I can’t wait to go back on our next trip! Would highly recommend Merriman’s!!!
Food was delicious and enjoyed our server (Kared).
We were so looking forward to our last meal in Kauai as we had chosen Merrimans. However , we were disappointed. Granted, the service was excellent (problems were dealt with cheerfully and in a timely manner.) Here is why: The dinners are overpriced. WE had the opportunity to compare the menu with all of our other dinners and found its menu too limited . Our fish, unfortunately, was not fresh tasting and we had to send it back for another menu item. $37 for a piece of fish and green beans was ridiculously high. Remember this is all ala carte. We had better tasting ahi at Da Crack! The ono/shrimp combo was superb, but we really did not want tempura. Since the menu, according to the manager, rarely changes, why would you want to return to the same exact menu? Comparatively speaking, Keoke's in paradise is our preferred fish place - or Breineckie's - or Beach House. But not Merriman's. It's a shame. We loved the Merriman's elsewhere in Hawaii.
As we entered the restaurant, we were greeted with a view of the sea and the farm-land - which is fitting, considering the restaurant's theme of local, fresh food from the land and sea. The white linen tablecloths and the excellent singer added to the ambiance. We each started with the strawberrry Arugula salad and the fresh catch of the day - which was the Onaga (Red Tail Snapper). My girlfriend closed the meal with the coconut cream brulee. The restauarant was somewhat pricey (even by Kauai standards) but the food was excellent! Eric, our server and the staff assisting him also did an excellent job. The one odd thing is that the restaurant adds a 2 percent "kitchen surcharge" that goes to the kitchen staff. I found this to be odd. Why not just build the 2 percent in the price? The meal as described was about $144 before tax and gratuity.
Always a pleasure to experience Merimans
Great food, great crew, our service from Jessica was the best! #1 in our book!
Loved the mai tai - best I’ve had - fish special was great as well - overall really good dinner
We have enjoyed going to Merriman’s the last two times we’ve come to Kauai. The food is fresh, innovative, and just enough . Our dinners were beautiful and served with professionalism and hospitality. I had the half filet mignon and half kalapaka , which was perfect. My husband had the kalapaka and lobster. The half and half option is a great way to sample a couple options. Our server was friendly and efficient. The table had a nice view of the sunset . I’d recommend getting a reservation to make sure you have a time you want. Even though there are many restaurants in Poipu, Merriman’s is a must-do in My Kauai plans.
Shared meal for 4 was awesome! Would recommend because everything was delicious!
Excellent staff, great food, fun atmosphere. Love music every night. Singer was great with kids.
The staff was very out of sorts, felt like they were rushing us out of there, it was overpriced, the food was subpar, and when we had questions on our bill, the manager was very rude. I will never go back.
My wife and I visited Merriman’s during our trip to Poipu and had a delightful meal.
We shared the special appetizer, my wife had the fish special and I had the steak special with half a lobster. The food was very good and cooked t perfection. Our server was fantastic, very attentive and funny. We would definitely go back next time we are in Poipu.
Love this place! Fresh farm to market food. Amazing catch of the day fresh fish menu items.
Merriman's was fine for our party of three. If I wasn't comparing it to other expensive restaurants in Hawaii I'd give it more than three stars. But compared with others, including Merriman's on Maui, there were too many things that weren't great. Here are a few: in a classic move to get us out the door, our bill came seconds after our desserts. The bill had an unannounced 2% kitchen service fee. The tomato on the $17 salad was simply not good ("don't feel rushed"). The Rhone by the glass was below average. The seafood in the seafood pasta, except for the shrimp, was low quality. The special appetizer (fried fish) was soggy. All that said, our server was nice, the ambiance was good, my snapper was good, and we had a very nice evening. But compared with the competition, not recommended.
What a beautiful restaurant, with fabulous staff, and a commitment to local ingredients. Aubrey was our server, she knew the menu inside and out, and was so charming. The food was beautiful: we had seared ahi and the lobster. The special starter of the day was “french gnocchi”, amaziing.
From the hostess to the waitress to the food A+
Great as usual
A very pleasant experience. The food was good but not quite tuned to our taste. I would not order sea bass again. Erick is a very accomplished waiter. Prices seemed a little high.
The most delicious food I think I have ever had. We started with the oysters and the crab cakes. Portions are small but every bite packs a huge flavorful punch. We then shared the beet salad and got a bottle of wine. The sommelier came and talked to us about the wine because they actually did not have the bottle we wanted. He recommended another bottle that would go well with dinner. I had the macadamia nut crusted white fish (forgot the actual name) but it was so amazing. I have not had anything better truly. We finished the night off with dessert and it was the perfect amount of food and wine. I am not going to lie, when you look at the prices, it hurts however once you have had your meal it is 100% worth it. I would do it again anytime, any price. Absolutely the best food!!!! Also service was fantastic, so so professional but personable.
Great waiter (Eric), cocktails (old fashioned with ginger and vanilla). The view from our table, fantastic, and fish special divine. Saved the singer’s business card, voice like an angel. Such a lovely experience.
