Merrill's on the Waterfront
Fresh, local seafood is a staple to Merrill’s dining and banquet menu and matches the atmosphere of the open harbor.

Waitress was a little gruff at first but got nicer as we approached tip time
I ordered one of their specials and the mussels were bad. I complained and they did not charge me for my replacement meal. However, it was disappointing especially when we waited over an hour for dinner to arrive.
Awful... Noisy, cold food, bad service.
Salmon lacked flavor. My entree and guest's were not very hot. Forgot to give us place setting.
Second visit since the opening and can't wait to go again! Great food and wonderful service!
Thanks for the 5 star review Mary!
"Energetic" is not the correct word for the noise level - annoyingly LOUD is. And the restaurant was only 3/4 full. Poor design/upgrade on the acoustics.
Service was attentive - when the waitress was around. LONG gaps in between her visits. Had to visit the bar ourselves at one point for a second drink.
Dinner was extremely slow being served. One hour and forty minutes from when we were seated until dinner was served.
The cedar plank salmon was Ok as was the baked haddock. Both of the other two meals - seafood casserole were extremely disappointing. One was so dried out it was not finished. Obviously overcooked.
The view/scenery was pleasant though.
Too many other seafood restaurant choices in the area that are far more enjoyable to make me not want to return here.
Our dinners were all very good. I wish I could remember our waitresses name, i only know that she was expecting a baby soon. She was so congenial and just a complete pleasure, she made the evening pleasurable as much as the food!
O sensed things would go awry as soon as we were seated 15 minutes after our reservation time.
Although I requested a window view three weeks ago when I made the reservation, we were seated all the w.ay back next to the receptionist.
Some buffet items were disappointedly cold , our waitress tried hard but still insufficient. Eg we asked for coffee three times and I was forced to get up and track her down
She subsequently brought coffee that was cold
I regret spending $250 along with a generous gratuity
It appears that the predecessor Waterfront Grille operated more efficiently along with tastier food!
Positive restaurant eating experience
Great eating experience, but pricey. Appetizers were great. Had clams casino (there could have been a few more-only 4); scallops with bacon (different); and clam chowder (yummy). Meal was served hot and excellent taste. (Baked haddock-so, so; filet mignon-nice; fishermen's platter-great.) Server was very friendly and helpful.
Service was super slow. My mixed drink came in a glass you’d sip whiskey from. We asked to speak to the manager after waiting an hour for our food and complain about the size of the drink. “Can I get you girls another round?” Yet charged us for it! Step it up Merrill’s!
Great location good food service good
Good place to dine casually with friends
Renovated and wonderful..
Well, it was a Saturday night, very crowded, and we were seated to a table right near the bar! Noise level was quite loud, but once the entertainment came on, at 8 it became even worse! We had difficulty carrying on a conversation! Our waitress made a mistake in our friend's order...instead of a sirloin which he ordered, a filet arrived! He definitely was more than willing to accept the filet, but wanted to pay for the sirloin! She ended up compting his meal plus a glass of wine! She was extremely nice, but was also involved with making drinks, so you could understand how she had right order, but entered it incorrectly on computer! I don't think we'd rush back here due to the high noise level on a Saturday night, especially with entertainment starting at 8! I'm sure this summer with the outdoor seating will be better!
It was very noisy. Some of the food was cold. The portions were small for the price. We waited a long time for our food.We were crowded into tables that were too close to be able to get out comfortably. I will not return.
Overall, experience was good. The share appetizer was not; hummus covered with greens, we didn’t even see it at first; bread was so hard, couldn’t eat it. However, our meals were very good as was the house Pinot Grigio. We all agreed that the prices were a bit high for the meals.
Our server, Haley, was excellent! Friendly, attentive & knowledgeable.
The acoustics are horrible but have always been in that restaurant.
We ordered a bottle of Rose from the menu. The wine arrived inside the stone cooler which was set on the table. When we went to pour, we noticed that it was a completely different named bottle of cheap white zinfandel, not the $30 bottle of the rose on the menu. When we mentioned it to the waitress, she said, "well, that's what we have." If she had mentioned that you were out of that particular wine at the outset, we would have simply picked another one. The replacement bottle of wine we received was properly opened in front of us and was fine. Waitress was nice, but would have sold more drinks if she had come back to check on us once dinner was served. Food and atmosphere were great.
We had a table at a window where we could see all the boats on the harbor. Great menu with a lot of choices. I had the Filet Mignon with Bake Stuffed Shrimp. The Filet was outstanding & the shrimp was good but I wish they had a better stuffing. My husband & sons had the Fish & Chips & Shrimp Scampi. They said it was the best they’ve ever had. Service was good but slow at times. I highly recommend Merrill’s!
We were seated at a very noisy table and then the guitar player was positioned right next to our table. Though the musician played well, we could not have any conversation during our time at Merrill's due to the noise level. Our food was mediocre at best; I had the shrimp scampi, which was overly spicy and too salty for my taste. The beet salad was good. I would not be likely to return any time soon.
We were sat immediately. Very nice waitress. Managment came over to check everything was good, which it was. Great view of the new Bedford working Waterfront. Very nice experience for out-of-town guest
Very slow service seafood was great but side dishes were not impressive ... gorgeous view and fun lively atmosphere but not blown away
Food and drinks were way overpriced. Not a lot of value for your dollar. ($255 tab before tip) I got the baked stuffed sole which was tiny and dried out with not a lot of flavor. Most notably we ordered a seafood platter (oysters, shrimp, and clams) up on arrival and it took an hour and a half for our 5 person party to receive our meals.
My husband and I had a wonderful experience dining at Merrill’s on a Friday evening. We had reservations and was seated promptly. Our appetizer and entrees were excellent! The service and the wait staff were outstanding. We will definitely be dining at Merrill’s in the near future.
Nice view of New Bedford's fishing fleet. Great service to go along with very good food. Just a little too noisy especially with the music entertainment.
Food excellent, service good, price high, noise level very high and uncomfortable.
Good food , great staff and ambiance. It's a great way to take in the New Bedford waterfront and enjoy some of it's famous seafood.
Food was very good (Orange Ginger Scallops) but very overpriced.
Food very good - bread basket minimal. Very noisy. Servers efficient but not well trained for such a fine restaurant. Risotto with special not good.
Delicious food, great service. Just a little noisy.
We had reservations for 6 at 7:30 and they sat us upstairs but we objected. We felt as if we were at a shower or wedding reception. The hostess quickly accommodated us and sat us on the upper level downstairs. We ordered our drinks which included four glasses and a bottle of wine. Instead we got 3 glasses, a bottle of wine and another glass of wine. we asked for straws with our cocktails and never received them. The runner kept coming out to the tables confused about who got what and who ordered what. The food was good not over the top for the price. Overall it was fair. Won't return for a while. Hopefully they'll get their act together.
Service was not great. The lobster Mac and cheese was a boiled lobster laying on plate. Chest carved out with Mac and cheese in it. But the Mac and cheese was spread all down to the tail and when I tried to eat the tail. You have to pick it up. My hand were covered in macaroni and cheese residue bit was gross to touch that way and to eat it with filthy hands. Needed gloves not a bib! And to top it off it was a small portion snd it was $35.00. I always get llobstet Mac and cheese other places. I hAve bever seen such a mess. It was so disappointing
Had a wonderful experience
Food was great and staff was friendly but the service was slow especially for our cocktail and entrees.
Thank you for the review Meg!
The view of the fishing boats is still the draw for this venue. The food and the service were okay, nothing extraordinary or memorable, and the interior was cleaned up and less confusing than The Waterfront Grille were. My guest and I both had the chowder (good but lukewarm) and I had the littlenecks with linguica and kale, which was good. My guest had the Caesar salad, also okay. Our server appeared to be new and yet unskilled at managing more than one thing at a time. I will give it another shot...
Hi Jody, Thank you for the review! Look forward to seeing you again!
Food was excellent portions just right the service was a little shaky (wouldn't stop me from going again) seemed as though the server was preoccupied mostly little things but what bothered us most was getting chased after and being told we hadn't fully paid when we did and left a generous tip even though we thought the service wasn't that good.
Service was good but a little slow. The server was nice & attentive. The food was pretty good, but side dishes left something to be desired. Some fabric features to dampen the noise would go a long way. We'll definitely go back but it's probably not making the favorites list yet.
Hello, Thank you for the review and I apologize about the slow service. Were you sitting on the left or right side of the restaurant for the noise level?
This is a great restaurant with very good food but it is way too noisy. They could use some noise remediation and less music. It was hard for us to hear the friends we met for dinner.
Hi Alice! Thank you for the review! We try to separate the music on the right side of the restaurant near the bar. When making your next reservation please ask for myself and I will set your table in the water view or fireside section on the left side of the restaurant! Thank you, Dave General Manager Merrill's on the Waterfront
The meal at Merril's was good. We like being able to sit by the window looking out at the pier. Unfortunately the noise level is still very high.
Hi Michael, Thank you for the review! One of the best views around! Was the noise level from the bar or the entertainment? Look forward to hearing from you, Dave
Food was very good, service could use improvement but was not terrible, nice view of the harbor, will go again.
Hi Mike, Thanks for the 5 star review!
They had one bartender on and she had the whole bar, tables as well as making drinks for the room. Should have been another bartender or at least a server. The food was good. The lighting is way too bright.
Thank you for the review! We have since adjusted the staffing levels to meet the higher volume!
We had a wonderful Friday night dinner at Merrill's. Seated right away at window with view of the water which was a very nice/romantic way to begin our date night! All food delicious & cooked to perfection except salmon was undercooked in middle - but they made it right/fixed right away! I had the chicken marsala off the specials menu & it was SUPER -- highly recommend. Our waiter, Jack, was wonderful - very attentive, but not pushy. We will go again!
Hi Donna! Thank you for the review! I apologize for the salmon, and I am glad we were able to address the issue in a timely manner. Look forward to seeing you again!
