Great clam chowder!
Excellent service and food.
Dinner special of lobster and filet was cooked perfectly, seasoned quite well, and HOT.
It was my wife's birthday, and she was delighted with the Crem' Brule dessert given by the staff.
Simply a fine evening.
Food was very good but service wasn’t too great. Deliver our main course and never checked back . I asked the host to get us our check and then he arrived.
Service was extremely slow, food was barely warm.
Excellent service and great food
Very good food and good service by Cindy. Everyone enjoyed it.
Atmosphere inviting, Waite staff excellent, food second to none.
Had a reservation, table not ready. Once seated and given water no one looked at us let alone approached our table for 35 minutes! Three different waitresses tended to the tables on either side and behind us. I eventually had to say Hey rather loud to one, we were ready to go elsewhere. My friend liked her food, mine was eh. The broccoli was mush. They did give us complimentary dessert, but brought a slice of cheesecake for us both. We needed to ask for us each to have our own. The food was not good enough to return.
The presentation of the food was disappointing and wasn’t happy with how the Oysters was shucked (had fragments from the shell on the Oysters).
The service was exceptionally slow and the server did not seem trained at all.
Walked in to the hostess complaining the busboy was not doing his job and she was having to bus tables and seat guests. Was seated a a table without silverware and had to wait excessively long to be greeted by server who was arguing with the hostess about the lack of table setup. Food was mediocre and not worth the $$$ price point. Had to wait for fresh bread only to be served doughy rolls. Setting is poorly lit, outdated and not clean. Musty carpets throughout with staff that are not familiar with the menu or seasonal offerings.
Always a pleasure. We come often. This one time the food came out less than hot but was remedied quickly.
The best part of my dinner at Meriwether’s was the guest I had with me. The hostess was rude and the server was under-trained which led to a terrible dining experience. We waited for our menus, drinks and decent service. We ordered and had soft drinks but the service never reached anywhere near decent. My scallops were over cooked and the manger on duty seemed bothered that I inquired about them. I plan to make this my last visit to this restaurant. There is no reason for the lack of service we received other than clear incompetence. The server was not attentive at all. We only saw him when he needed to place an order. And then he got the order wrong but never checked if our meals prepared correctly. They were not. My guest blogs and usually takes pics of the courses but the bad service distracted her.
The rime rib, and shrimp scampi were great. As usual, the crème brule, and key lime pie were on point as well.
Overall food was excellent but svc a little disjointed . Would return again but confusion at times with the program between servers
Loved the caesar salad, the bread, but I didn’t like the smoked gouda stuffed chicken...won’t be going back here...
the food was not the best for a touted steak house and the decor was dated.
We had reservations for Valentine’s Day. Our table was situated such that the waiter had to squeeze past us to service the guest behind us. I order a cocktail they called New Fashion which is a just an old fashion. The drink was absolutely horrible. The drink was full of ice and just a splash of bourbon. Completely watered down. No orange peel or cherry like the ingredients called for in the menu. We both ordered the filet medium. One steak was medium well almost well done. The steak and the mash potatoes was bland. I had to drown my food with salt. This place used to be a premium spot. It’s no longer that. I have no intentions on returning
Pleasant experience
Food was bland. Only good thing was the desert
The food was delicious and the service was excellent! I will definitely patronize this restaurant again.
Great food and service. Definitely would recommend to others!
Nice restaurant for us old folks, even with the new menu. The wait staff is always very good even if a lot of the staff is not a professional and we only see them once or twice before they move on. My only beef with this restaurant is that they don't read the reservation details made through Open Table - I always ask for a booth and they are always surprised by my request when I show up. Not surprisingly, they never have a booth available, even if by chance someone notices I have requested one. The excuse is that someone else arrived and asked for a booth (without even making a reservation!). We are always surprised that the restaurant is still open for business - last Saturday all the exterior lights were out, including the sign out front.
Our favorite spot in the restaurant is in the bar, in one of the small booths. The ambiance is exactly what we want, our only possible issue is that it's a bit chilly. Food and service is excellent, we've been coming for years.
This experience was very poor, normally we enjoy eating here. Our waitress, however, was very good. The manager was also helpful, she removed the price of one meal from our bill. I guess the staff did what they could to make it right. I’ll be back.
We were meeting a relative that lives father out and we were seated in a quiet area of the restaurant that could not of been a better choice. We were able to visit and enjoyed the atmosphere and delicious food, all while being able to visit and catch up.
Our waiter Mel was outstanding and was very attentive to us.
We will definitely be back again soon.
Thank you.
We had a great time, and everyone was very friendly.
This is your typical Older Muer restaurant. The Tudor style decor inside is still gracious and well kept. My husband's dinner of a mixed platter of salmon, coconut shrimp and crab cake was tasty. The Charley's Chowder was served barely warm, but they reheated promptly when asked. My dinner of grilled sea bass, ginger rice and asparagus was tender and flavorful. Just two asparagus spears were served, though. On a Friday night at 7:00 it was not crowded and we could have a pleasant conversation. I would go back again for a pleasant dinner.
Great place for a business lunch. Tremendous food.
Veggies were bland and undercooked. Charley chowder tastes like canned vegetable soup. The rest was good but not worth the price.
We had the Special between 4 & 6, Husband got Salmon which was excellent. I got the prime rib, which was very bad & chewy. They made me another one, it was better ... but in general it was going to be a bad piece of meet from this selection. I was happy they remade it, I took it home & the dogs loved it :-)
SERVICE was excellent from Jason :-) and the manager buzzed by our table, I would go again ....
Excellent crab cakes and New England clam chowder! The service was excellent and attentive.
Been to restaurant many times with different groups
I have been to the restaurant several times and have always rated it higher but this past experience was not as good. We came in at 2:30 to sit in bar area. Happy hour stars at 3:00. Bartender was overseeing the entire bar area therefore the busier it got the service lacked. Although she was friendly just too busy. I ordered the scallop appetizer and it said crab encrusted . Well, I got the tiniest scallops I think I have ever seen and they were in a pool of some sort of cheese sauce. I couldn't taste the crab whatsoever and definitely not worth the $14 I think they were. Some one in my party ordered the crab cake meal and it came with ONE crab cake and TWO asparagus spears. LOL Not a very good portion again for the money.
I would go there again, however would be very choosy on what ordered; maybe stick to happy hour AT the bar only.
A few service issues but nothing major. Always quality food!
Great! We dined as a family!
Meriwether's is a solid neighborhood standby which always delivers a positive dining experience. Our family loves the cozy castle-like atmosphere , which is even better on a snowy or rainy day by the fire in the Captain's Lounge. The food is good to great, service reliable and overall restaurant experience predictably positive.
This was a first time experience, and did not disappoint. The staff was friendly, and the cuisine well prepared. Nice place to go on a first date.
Still cozy, low noise level, threat food and service!
The service was TERRIBLE. Food delicious, but service inexcusable. Told manager, and a slight deduction was made to our bill under the circumstances. However, we reported so many times during the dinner all the problems, it truly ruined by birthday dinner out. If Merriwether's of Southfield MI wants return customers, it has to provide good service. I couldn't even get my water glass refilled one time until I had been provided the check at the conclusion of the meal.
