Great restaurant in nice neighborhood. The food was outstanding and the dates cant be beat.
Very pleasant at 6 PM on a weekday. Lots of open tables. Friendly staff. Seated directly in front of the fireplace. Very charming historic building. Menu is a la carte, changed regularly, and excellent. Our dinner included turnip soup and focaccia, citrus salad, main course, and creme brulee. In honor of Lewis & Clark, I had venison, which was seared nicely & perhaps more rare than I'm used to but very nice. Wife's pork chop looked great. Maybe I'll try the leftover bit tonight. The creme brulee was creamy & cool with a warm caramel crust and almond "cookie". Presentation is everything, right?
The menu is online but not necessarily up to date. Wonderful place.
We began by having to choose between a table on the path to the kitchen or a table in the bar. They were setting up for a large group planned for later so many tables were not available. They sat two ladies at the only good table left. We ordered dinner (I ordered scallops and my wife ordered chicken). When they brought our food they brought my scallops and brought my wife mussels. She said she ordered chicken. The server had made a mistake with another table (that is what they said was the mixup). Anyway my wife and I shared the scallops until her chicken arrived. They obviously had to cook the chicken as it took quite a while to get it. We had almost finished the scallops when the chicken arrived. The waiter did not charge us for the deserts we ordered to compensate us for the mistake and delay. The unfortunate part is we were there to celebrate our 47th anniversary and this situation just kind of spoiled it. We didn’t get mad as what good would that have been we were just disappointed. It made a nice celebration just a little less exciting.
The perfect spot to celebrate our anniversary. The building is charming and historic, the wait staff is knowledgeable and friendly - the atmosphere was perfect; we sat by the fire. We were greeted with a "Happy Anniversary" and glasses of champagne as soon as we were seated. And, oh, yes! - the food was excellent! I also appreciated the available parking.
The dinners were great. Service was lacking for the price range but not bad for average. We were seated in the corner of the bar area in a booth with a dinner reservation and it was noisy.
Great food and service, but prices are really high.
$22 appetizer, $25 pasta dishes, $12 side, $10 well drinks, red wine @ $67/bottle, with tip $210 for a simple dinner for 2.
what a great surprise.. the portland dining month menu was excellent
Meriwether’s never disappoints. The ambiance is lovely - intimate and warm, the service is great and no hovering, the food is unique and delicious. And, we got a double rainbow out the window on St Patrick’s Day. Not sure how they pulled that off but a nice bonus along with the fresh apple pie with caramel sauce and ice cream. Yum!
Very good restaurant. Especially fine for brunch. Took friends from LA there, they were impressed. Servings are large and tasty and good vegetarian options.
Date night on a cold & rainy Friday evening. Greeted by name at check in likely due to Open Table reservation and seated at a small table by their fireplace which was much appreciated - particularly by my spouse. Dining space was busy but not crowded - cozy and calm. Service was attentive but not hovering and food arrived at a reasonable pace. Had the flat iron steak, med-rare and have to say it was one of the best steaks I’ve had in a long time. Kudos to the kitchen! Higher cost but food value matches it and is locally sourced. Thanks for a great evening out.
My friends and I used to go for lunch at Meriwethers. I love the stained glass! But we used to order soup and half a sandwich for about $10. I had a kale salad this week for $17 so I"ll not be going back any time soon. I did not have a drink at all but with tip, my salad was $20. Too expensive.
Decent food and very good service, my group thought the prices were a bit inflated for what it is.
Our server Nicolas was fantastic. Amazing meal. Loved everything we ordered and as a group of 4 picky eaters, that's no easy feat. Can't wait to come back.
The NW Benedict was so delicious, the blood red orange hollandaise sauce was fantastic I was in heaven!
Love this place and everyone seems to like working there. We like being there. Love the option of a round table for our group of 6. Getting harder to find. The food is creative and delicious. Could use more good gluten free options, like a yummy gluten free biscuit. I know they're out there! Thanks as always for a special time and we look forward to trying to get in with our group of 8 at the holidays!
The people were great, the setting is descent. The food was okay, but for two people it cost 160.00 dollars is a waste of money
Staff was very attentive. We had an excellent meal. Enjoyed the wine by the glass variety.
For the price, I was sadly disappointed with the creativity and taste of the food. It seemed my dinner party felt the same at the end. The service was great though. Very keen on ensuring our glasses were filled and we had what we needed.
We had a lovely lunch there. Huge hamburgers but delicious, although the bun was too fragile for the humongous burger! I really loved the refreshing fruit sorbet.
Food was just OK - not bad, not wonderful. Bean stew was really bland - and expensive.
Always good with great sauces. Nice setting. Garden is great in nice weather.
We went for Portland Dining month. Great service, wonderful dishes. Loud large group working dinner nearby.
It's our second visit to this restaurant, and we are still not impressed with the food nor service. Last time was the wait and this time service is better. This time we ordered the crab Benedict, chicken waffle, and blueberry pancake with 2 pieces of bacon for our kiddos. The food was nothing impressive and expensive. I feel like their dinner is better than brunch. The seatings were cramped, you can basically hear your neighbors conversation. Not very kids friendly which is unfortunate.
Always love this place, Amazing I’ll be honest… Professional and courteous wait staff… And depressive atmosphere… Always leaves a great depression I’m just
Excellent meal, highly recommend
Wonderful experience! Our dinner was outstanding and our server Alex was also.
We went to Meriwether's to spend a belated Valentine's Day dinner. We were very disappointed . We received a discount coupon from Costco and was looking forward to visiting a new restaurant . We felt the restaurant was very small and we were seated in the very back of the bar. The food was minimal and overpriced. We realize it's a historical building however it needs remodeled the bathrooms are tiny you can hardly maneuver around in there. Also we did not notice any wheelchair accessibility. We would never consider recommending it to any of our friends or family.
Very loud, very crowded. Make sure you have reservations. Food was good, service was so so.
Wonderful, as always. One of THE BEST places in Portland for brunch. Never disappoints me.
Good food, good service but pricey.
Dominic provided memorable and exceptional service! Always love Meriwether’s, and will try to sit in Dominic’s section from now on. His energy is like a breath of fresh air.
This is our 3rd visit to Meriwethers and it has been amazing every time! I had the scallops and they were delicious. The crab risotto was too die for (although a bit overpriced). The atmosphere is cozy and romantic and the staff are all helpful and friendly. We felt well taken care of. They have an amazing brunch as well. This is quickly becoming one of our favorite upscale restaurants!
The food and the atmosphere were amazing. As the menu is locally sourced, it seems as thought there will be routine seasonal changes, but from my dining experience, the pork chop was delicious. The meat was moist and tender, well flavored and just over all outstanding. I do recommend this place for a date night or an evening out; for two of us, the bill was just over $100, so not outrageous for a wonderful evening of food and drinks.
The cozy fireplace and historic atmosphere make this a lovely spot for winter brunch. We both enjoyed our food, although we couldn't help but notice that the prices were considerably higher here than at most of our other favorite and equally delicious brunch spots. We had to wave down our server to ask for everything, i.e. condiments, a glass of water, and a coffee refill, rather than being offered.
Beautiful venue. Excellent ambience.
Charcuterie board was generous and very good. The focaccia was also excellent.
The highlight of the meal was the winter risotto with crab. This was prepared perfectly and was a glorious, delicate balance of subtle flavors.
Unfortunately, the pork chop was overdone, dry, and a real disappointment. The scallops were good but slightly undercooked.
A side order of grits was absolutely inedible.
Overall a good night but with very disappointing main courses and don’t even think about the grits!!
One of the highlights every time I come in is Camilia, the bartender/server. Great recommendations every time and spectacular service!
I've been recommending this place for a couple years now and it never disappoints. Once again a great experience this trip.
Second year in a row we have dined at this restaurant for Valentine’s Day. Also the second year in a row the food was subpar. The steak was between mildly warm and cool. I even asked for mine to se sent back and warmed up and it still came back cool. We also felt rushed. Our salad came out when we were still eating the appetizer and then the main course came out when we were still eating salads. A meal for two was almost $300!! Will not be dining here again on Valentine’s Day. Normal dinners have always been solid.
Outstading service, cozy atmosphere, good food, and a great selection of wines. Recomended for those wishing for a different dining experience.
