Meritage an Urban Tavern at the JW Marriott Desert Ridge Resort & Spa
Book your next event with us
When we first arrived we were greeted and sat immediately as it looked like there were very few customers in the restaurant. The server arrived at our table approx 12 mins after we sat. He seemed flustered and unorganized. I believe there was a larger golf party that was most likely consuming more of his time. He also mentioned to us that he just got back from a month long vacation and was unfamiliar with menu items. As soon as we were served our drinks 25 mins later we quickly ordered our food as we didn't think he would be able to come back to assist us as the dining room was now getting busier. We where there for a graduation event which had approx 3000 attendees. I would have imagined the property would have staffed up for this occasion but our server was the only one on the floor. I quickly started seeing a floor supervisor taking orders and then the bartender came out from behind the bar to take orders. This place looked like a S**T show at this point and being in the industry that is never good. I then noticed many other tables just sitting and not getting serviced and the server had to apologize over and over. Meanwhile the host is still seating people (she should have not). All in all this was not a pleasant experience as I also asked our server for a couple of items that never made it to the table and the server never remembered or acknowledged forgetting about bringing it to me. We then quickly closed out our tab and left. I would not recommend this property based on my experience on Saturday. I also wanted to note that there was a busser who was not very friendly and seemed to also hate his job based on how he bussed our table and just his overall facial expressions.
We came here for my wife's birthday since we were staying at the resort. Not only did the staff make us feel unwelcome the food was beyond disgusting. I ordered the ribeye steak medium rare, my wife ordered the filet. Both steaks arrived burnt, over cooked and inedible. My ribeye was sitting in a pool of water from the side veggies. The manager came over and asked to recook the steaks at that time we were sitting so long with our little ones that wasn't an option. Then came out the birthday cake for my wife, they misspelled her name on the cake after I had spelled it out for them on the phone. This poor quality, service and mistakes are not something I expect from staying at JW Marriott hotels.
The Meritage is one of our go-to places. The food is consistently good.
Wait staff and kitchen staff have no idea about how food is prepared or any of its ingredients. I am allergic to pepper and was told there was no pepper in the meatloaf. HUH! they don't have a clue.
Fabulous outdoor seating
Meritage is one of the reasons that we continue to book weekend getaways at this JW Marriott property. Every steak we’ve ordered here has been expertly prepared. Great wine selection to compliment our dinner. Love the new roasted vegetables on the side!
The only drawback was a large ‘family’ table seated close by that let their children run around (noisily) during our “romantic” dinner for two. I really wish the restaurant would “close” the lawn to children after 7pm. It amazes me that parents don’t realize their in a “restaurant” atmosphere even when they’re dining outside.
Good service and great food. Not an average tavern menu. Would recommend.
We enjoyed a late night Mother’s Day dinner at the Meritage. There weren’t very many families out at this time so it was a quiet evening. The food was brilliantly prepared and although a bit pricey, well worth the money for this special occasion.
The kale and beet salad had SO little beets on it - and what was there was chopped so small - VERY disappointing! I barely ate any of the salad but the server never checked if everything was ok.
The food was delicious. We sat outside by the fire and watched the sunset. Gorgeous. We were celebrating an early anniversary and my husbands birthday. The portions are super small - which is expected. The service was really not good. We had to ask four times for water refills. She took our drink order and didn’t come back to put in the appetizer for 20-25 min. We had a resort card that comped the appetizer but we were still charged for it after showing the card twice. The busser filled our waters and checked on us more than the waitress did. She brought us an incorrect bill with the room charges already made without asking and no option to pay with card. We had to walk it up front to make the changes. The host/manager was the only one dressed to recommended dress code. Everyone else was in T-shirt’s and jeans. We really expected a classier service based on description.
Saving grace was the ambience and delicious food. Probably won’t go back.
The staff was so friendly and personable! The hostess was very accommodating, as well as our waiter José Silva who sent us a thank you letter! I highly recommend Meritage and the peach cheesecake that is in the shape of a peach!
Perfect setting for dinner with conference associates. Great ambiance Food was good. Neat views.
Awful. Nothing was good, terrible service, over priced. We stayed at the hotel and really hoped this would be our favorite spot to dine. Overall bad experience and would never recommend this to anyone. Our bill was $750.00, and waited 1.5 hours for food to be served to our table. We were very embarrassed too because we were hosting our employees, left feeling mortified.
We enjoyed our meal here. Especially friendly to our grandchildren (who we brought with us, and their parents). They loved their meals and we like our as well. We ate outside and that was perfect. We will return to Meritage for sure.
The food was very good but the service was rushed. We had to tell them to slow down. They need to focus on pacing the meal service better.
Very good food although some dishes, like the crab cake, don’t give enough food for the price. Ambiance is very nice, not too sports bar, and the waiters are very attentive. I will be back soon.
Outstanding food and service. Jose was delightful.
Outstanding service, outstanding food and birthday celebrations were phenomenal.
Our all time favorite! Great food ,staff & atmosphere!
Lovely Christmas dinner with my sister. The wedge salad was delicious. The scallops and crab cakes were excellent entrees.
The food was absolutely wonderful, from preparation to presentation, very pleasing. We especially enjoyed some of the great shared plates, Avocado Toast, Crispy Buffalo Cauliflower and yes Homemade Tater Tots.
Was just ok- has expected better from a JWM resort. Our server was very nice but not effective- asked for spoon to serve a shared side and he forgot for 5 min - no water refills - and when the food is just ok- the service needs to be really good. Would not go again.
The scallops were wonderful, the waiter dropped off Brussel sprouts by mistake. He left them for us and they were delicious. I will order them the next time I go. The only glitch was when I called for directions the person I spoke to gave me the wrong name of the road leading from Tatum into the resort. In any case we certainly will go back.
Absolutely lovely! Sat on the patio and it was delightful. Music was too loud and, when asked, hostess turned music down low for better conversation. I had the fig and cheese sandwich, and other diner had french dip. Both sandwiches were very tasty and Jerome, our waiter was top notch. Overall was very good experience and will definitely return.
Outside was a function for 1700 or more catered by Marriott - inside was maybe 6 people. Very quiet. Not being so hungry I ordered the mezze plate plus asparagus and Brussels sprouts- excellent! Husband had crab cakes - he says we’re excellent. We would definitely go back. Wondering why there weren’t more customers!
Muarinel was an amazing server. Ambience and menu has changed but the food and service was still amazing! Highly recommend the prosciutto and mixed green salad, fig sandwich as well the chocolate desert! Very accommodating and pleasant all the way around!
As always the dinners, crab cakes and lettuce wedge and dessert had been excellent.
A special place to eat with company!
Great meal with a great vegetarian option offered!
Great experience. I highly highly recommend.
Amazing filet & pork chop.
Meat & cheese plate was superb.
Pretzels were too good not to finish...large servings of all.
Mashed potatoes purée was off the charts with both the filet & pork.
Service was top notch and so pleasant and nice!
Manager came to the table to add a nice touch.
Loved it all.
Stayed at JW Marriott and this was our casual choice for dinner, four friends. We experience varied meal options seafood to filet steak- all very good! No complaints on food or drinks by any of us and service with Jerome was consistent, a smile & attentive. Nice option for meal, but recommend either earlier or later for dinner, as long tables (crowds) made it pretty noisy during prime dinner time. Would recommend this as place to go while staying at hotel, or even after playing a round of golf at the course...Score!
Food was very good, service was excellent but noise level made an conversation difficult.
Food was good not amazing, and the meal which was north of 150$ was 50 minutes from start to finish. Appetizers and entrees. I don’t mind spending on a good meal a especially on vacation but the wait staff was at the table every 5 minutes and out food came out lightening fast. There should’ve been a pace. For those reasons we wouldn’t go back.
We were late getting to the restaurant because of a late arrival at the airport but you were waiting for us with a smile on your faces. The waiter was more than helpful and friendly. The food was absolutely the best I have had in a long time.
The only drawback was trying to find the restaurant in the dark as it is so far back in the corner.
Noise Level: About half the tables were filled and the noise level was so high our table had a hard time hearing one another. If you are okay shouting across the dinner table than this shouldnt be a problem.
Food: Overall food was good, we had New York Strip and Scallops. The steak was a good cut and cooked well but the sauce was overpowering and took away from the taste of the meat. Sauces should complement the main item not overpower it. The scallops were good but scarce - see value.
Value: The steak was a good value - a very healthy size and cut for the price. The scallops not so much. There were three on the plate and we have often received 4 to 5 for the the same or less price.
Ambience: Again, it was loud and bar'ish rather than cozy like a steak room. The atmosphere was somewhat cold in attitude.
Service: Not much to say here. At best it was 'Eh'. For the price point and location (JW) I would expect MUCH better service and attitude from wait staff.
Overall: I can't really go above a 3 star on this one and I had to force myself to go that high. So many small things could have been so much better.
Had an amazing experience. Celebrated my boyfriend's 28th birthday here. Service was awesome.
Great service, great meal. Cullen our Server was outstanding. Can’t wait to return.
Excellent food! We dined with children and everyone enjoyed their meals. The wine list was wonderful as well
Great food and wonderful service!
