   What a nice independent neighborhood restaurant! The people are very friendly and engaging. The food was excellent and the serving sizes were generous. We had the salmon and the fish & chips. Both were good choices. Personally, my fish & chips dinner was one of the best I’ve had. The fish was excellent (cod) and the batter was light and excellently prepared. Then there’s desert.... we were too stuffed to really try desert....but forced ourselves to try the bread pudding which was mouth watering good. Next time we may start with deserts.

   All our entrees were delicious. Friendly service. Worth the wait as it is a scratch kitchen.

   We tried the Merit Grill tonight for the first time. The ambiance is just okay but maybe it’s because I remember when the space years ago housed a Friendly’s. It was midweek and not very crowded. The wine list is not very extensive but when the waitress learned that we were interested in Italian wines, she consulted her manager and they brought over the one Italian wine they had for us to try. Since it was our first visit we asked the waitress for suggestions and both the agave-glazed salmon and the shrimp tacos she suggested were really outstanding. They are trying very hard and I hope they make it! I look forward to returning to this nice little neighborhood place.

   Frankly, I was underwhelmed. OpenTable described this as "Modern Latin influenced continental cuisine" but no one at our table got a Latin-vibe from the food. It wasn't bad, but it also wasn't Latin. I brought my leftover Chipotle Pasta home and hit it with some Red Pepper when I reheated it, then it tasted Latin...and 5 times better. OpenTable also described this as offering "Beer, Cocktails, Full Bar, Wine" but they only had a limited beer and wine offering. The options weren't bad, but... I probably won't be back.

   This was the second time our book club decided to meet at Merit Grill. Once again it was wonderful. In fact, we will be back next month!

   Promptly greeted & seated on a Friday night. They were expecting a party of 20, so we were glad to order promptly. They still have to work out how to present their bar beverages, as we always have to ask about rotating drafts & wine offerings. The food, as usual, was pleasantly plated and very good; were also comped an appetizer as the servers were initially distracted by the large group coming in. Not necessary but welcome nevertheless. 2 drinks + 2 entrees + tip = $49.00.
