We love Meridia and our waiter Michael was fantastic ! It seemed the labor shortage and “understaffed” situation currently plaguing restaurants has also hit Meridia but because of Michael’s gracious friendly and efficient approach we thoroughly enjoyed our meal. Thank you !
Kapouche soup, fresh green salad, sea scallops, grilled octopus, roasted sea bass, fried calamari, grilled Kauai shrimp, tasty and served as ordered. Only disappointment was grilled octopus was a bit rubbery.
Food was decent and expensive. Restaurant is buried in the Westin resort.
It was fine, just not matching the excellent reviews we read.
Food was great, but very pricey. It is a resort in Hawaii so that is to be expected
Our 8th meal on the big island and by far the worst. In fact the only meal we didn’t enjoy.
Paella was horribly over cooked. Rice on the edges charred. Rice in the middle mushy. Seafood and sausage in dish overcooked. Found a hair in the rice as I was trying to force it down.
Cauliflower steak also over cooked and not seasoned well or at all.
Brick chicken over cooked and also not seasoned.
Service was fabulous. Manager took over cooked items off bill.
Maybe it was a bad night for the kitchen but feel like we waisted a night out on vacation. Regret going and wanted to share with others that there are much better options out there.
Ahi appetizer was very good. Pork Milanese not so. Wanted a fresh catch, but the offering of the night was linguine. Disappointed there was not a simply grilled fresh fish.
The food was good and service too the sun sets are the best
We were excited to go for Thanksgiving dinner,
As nice as the restaurant was we found it glaringly over lit.
Our server was great, we thanked her for being there on this holiday.
We took a bottle of wine, corkage fee is $40.
The issue was the food, our Turkey dinner was obviously dry and crusty the moment it hit the table I said it was looking dry, took a fork to it and yes it was hard, turned over a slice of white meat to find it was brown like it was put under the broiler.
I sent it back and ask to see the manager. She was nice but obviously did not seem to mind the kitchen thought it was ok to send out a totally insulting preparation of what was meant to be a great treat.
Highly dissatisfied and highly disappointed in management.
Great meal. Great service. Beautiful location
Still spaced due to COVID restrictions, the restaurant was empty but the food very good - appetizers, meal, dessert, and drinks. If you can get one of the few tables you really should if staying at the Westin.
Amazing ambiance and good service but for less money, you can get a much better meal off resort. The Westin needs to step up their game with these restaurants. We ended up eating most dinners off resort because of the low quality food.
Pricy, but not unexpected for high end resort cuisine. The food and preparation was outstanding.
Everything was Mediocre.
The apps were a crudo of mahi mahi. the fish was tough and not flavorful.
the other app Beet salad was OK was underwhelming. Boring.
For a main course we had the Paella was wet and not crispy. The shrimp were good.
Not fabulous considering their pricing.
Great food, beautiful location, very nice staff. A bit pricey, but comparable to other fine dining in Hawaii. Only disappointment was nothing special (ie dessert) offered for our anniversary celebration.
Excellent service (Donna), although food came at weird timing. Open air beautiful restaurant, but needing ceiling fans as it was quite warm at 7pm. Food was lackluster & wasn’t worth price. Very pricey $230 for the four of us. Had pizza, short ribs, kebabs, and fish special. Will not return.
The desserts were incredible. However, the main courses seem to be over cooked and lacked seasoning . The risotto side dish was absolutely stunning, however.
We were pleased with the improvements that have made the Hapuna a destination once again. A lovely cocktail at the Piko bar. At our request, We were seated overlooking the bay. Food was acceptable but not memorable. I would recommend skipping dessert since the molten chocolate cake was tepidly warm. We will return when we are in the neighborhood
Wonderful food and service in a beautiful setting. Do appreciate the nice wine list with moderate price ranges. We got a little hot against the plexiglass, hopefully that is a vivid only aspect.
We enjoyed our evening. Wish we’d had a beach side table
We arrived early and were told we could wait in bar, which we did. We were not approached at the time of our reservation. I inquired and was told that we had not checked in. We were eventually seated but not very nicely. Server and food were fine but reception could use some direction to customer rather than to self importance
After a terrible experience the night before, we had a premium view table and experienced server this evening. We ordered cocktails, appetizers, entrees, wine, and desert. Everything was very good and the service was excellent. We will be going back one more time on our trip. Had to cancel one of our four nights as we had an 11 hour tour and were not able to make our 6 pm reservation.
Fantastic food and ambiance . Service was slow at times the server was over extended.
Everything was perfect! Our table was on the balcony overlooking the ocean for sunset as requested and on time. All the staff was kind and thoughtful, especially our waitress Judy who took amazing care of us! 1000% recommend the octopus app, out of this world delicious! The abalone and ahi crudo were a close second. Their chefs really know what flavors are gunna taste good together even if they dont necessarily seem like they would! Very unique and tasty preparations! We also got the special lobster crusted Mahi which was to die for! We really appreciated their use of local foods like ulu, olena and pipinola in their dishes! Only thing that was sub par was the saffron risotto, which was taken off our tab because we expressed mild feedback about the lack of taste. Drinks were great, tiramisu was delish! Overall very very impressed and we will definetly be coming back!!!! Thanks for making our anniversary so amazing Meridia!!!
The hostess and manager seemed pretty frantic at the reception desk. And for no apparent reason… seemed pretty busy but not crazy.
Hostess grabbed us in the lounge after about 15 minutes (we were early) and didn’t offer to take our drinks so we carried our water and cocktails to the table… not a big deal but it’s a common practice at high end establishments.
She told us that there wasn’t a table outside as we requested but would put us in the breezeway (which is still a nice table) but I noticed an open 2 top outside in the most prime spot. I asked and she said it wasn’t ready but we could have it if we were willing to wait. She walked us back to the hostess stand and then directly back to the requested table. Not sure why we didn’t get that table straight away but we were happy to get it.
Menu looks fantastic. Very interesting menu items. We ordered the Ahi Crudo. Interesting preparation. We enjoyed it. 4 small but VERY fresh pieces of Ahi topped with a variety of herbs and spices.
I had the Branzino and lemon herb rice. Branzino was perfectly cooked and delicious. The disconnect was that they served the rice in a separate dish which I thought was odd. It was just plain white rice that was spooned into a dish… white rice like you get with plate lunch. For $55, the fish was cooked and seasoned well but the rest of the dish was below basic.
Wife ordered the almond crusted Ahi. It turned out to be 3 tournedos. The quality of the Ahi is high but the dish lacked flavor balance. The sauce was sweet but the fish was under seasoned. $45. Not a bad value.
The service was slow but it wasn’t annoying. We weren’t in a rush and the view is spectacular.
Another miss is that earlier in the day, I left a message at the restaurant asking about the corkage fee (the front desk wasn’t sure). No one ever called back.
All in all, the location and view is spectacular. Our food overall was good but not great… especially for the price.
Arrived 10 minutes before our reservation. Asked to sit in lounge for 25 mins. 5 tables that arrived after us were seated first. All of them received premium outdoor tables. We were offered a table with a poor view. We asked for a table that was empty in the premium outdoor section but were told it was reserved. We asked to wait for a better table. Waited another 10 mins for a better table that still had a poor view. We ordered a beer and a wine. It took 25 minutes to get our drinks, 50 mins after our reservation time. Our appetizer was mediocre. When our dinner arrived we had no utensils so we waited 5 minutes for our server who did not show up. Then we had to go get the manger to get utensils. By then dinner was not hot but it was tasty. We asked for our bill as we just wanted to leave as we had been there 90 minutes and it was not enjoyable. We booked this restaurant for all 4 nights of our stay 1 month in advance. The manager did speak with us several times to resolve the issues. It just seems that they were very understaffed and unorganized. She did comp our bill and ensured us that we would have a better experience during our stay. So we will give them another chance tonight. Stay tuned.
Beautiful setting, indoor or outdoors. Very friendly staff. Lots of space between tables felt very safe.
Great meal in an incredible setting.
Service and food was excellent! No complaints.
Very mediocre food!
Our experience was one to remember, but not in a good way. We were the second table to be seated for the evening - rather than seat us at a table were we would be sitting outside overlooking the ocean & sunset (of which there were plenty), we were seated in a separate area enclosed by plexiglass with a view of what looked like an overgrown forest preserve. We were the only couple seated there for 15-20 minutes while other diners were seated in the ocean view seats - in spite of being assured that “there would be others seated” where we were.
The hostesses were indifferent to any request or complaint and clearly did not want to be there. When we arrived and checked in, the hostess was very uncommunicative with us and didn’t acknowledge our reservation. She instead told us to sit to the side and wait to be seated even though we were the only ones there. Then a group came in after us and were immediately taken to their table…
In summary, the only reason we did not rate the overall experience as a 1 or 0 is that the food was good and the server was very pleasant.
Amazing views of Hapuna Beach and Westin hotel!
Service and food were great
Special thanks to our waiter John. He did a great job
Excellent service, our server was knowledgeable of the ingredients and cuisine it was a pleasure to hear the description.
Expensive, decent food but prices are through the roof. Great cocktails.
Beautiful setting, very good food, and exceptional service.
Although we were on our honeymoon AND celebrating a birthday, the staff knew and mentioned it, nothing special occurred. No dessert. No champagne. Nothing. The beef and fish kabob appetizer was not good. The main course came waaaay too fast. We were rushed the entire time. I never had a chance to order wine with dinner. We had one cocktail with the appetizer. Our reservation was at 8 and all servers, hostess, pastry chef appeared to have left the floor by 9pm. Very disappointing.
Wonderful farm fresh food, creatively prepared.
Our server was OUTSTANDING! She could be in charge of training for all servers everywhere. Food was good/very good and the only ding was the paella as the rice didn't have as much flavor as we'd hoped for (I tend to make it with more garlic than required) and 3 of the 4 of us ordered that. The fish special (a Hawaiian red snapper) was one of the best pieces of fish we've ever tasted (the person who ordered it shared bites with the rest of us). The Mai Tai was also outstanding as were the churros and the Green Goddess salad was very good.
We were seated near the kitchen, so that was a bummer as there's no such thing as a quiet kitchen, and we had no view.
We were recommended to eat here and were very disappointed. The green goddess salad came without dressing and was sparse. The octopus appetizer was very good. Then came the main, paella. It was overcooked w dry chicken and mushy rice & had little flavor. Would not recommend.
