From the moment I made my reservation I felt they didn’t want us to come in. I received a phone call asking us to come sooner. When I explained we couldn’t, they would not assure us we could finish our meal and would have to move to the bar promptly at 10. I decided to move our reservation earlier by 15 mins just to make sure we could enjoy. When we arrived they said they had been waiting for us (as if they were annoyed) and sat us at the bar anyway. The server informed us that the kitchen had a “hard close” at 10. It was 9... we ordered drinks and when he returned he told us again that the kitchen was closing ... it was 9:15. We ordered appetizers to accommodate his pushiness. He said “is that all? Can I tell the kitchen that’s all you’re eating?” I said no we were hoping for dinner as well. He looked at his watch and ROLLED HIS EYES. We just got our check from the manager, who was pretty apathetic about the whole situation. What a disappointment. If they don’t want business they should just close early rather than call to passive aggressively ask us to come earlier and treating us with annoyance and disinterest from the moment we arrived. We went down the street to the Newsroom that had a single waitress/bartender working and the difference was outstanding. They were welcoming, friendly, accommodating and the food was delicious. THAT’s what good hospitality is. Mercy does not offer that. They just want to go home. I hope the General Manger would be horrified by the behavior of their staff in a Sunday night.
Staff was awesome, very nice and professional. The dining room Menu was interesting but the food was a little underwhelming for price-point. That’s just my partner and I opinion. Will try the bar menu next time
We got the scallops and the duck. Again, while interesting ingredients and they each were good but didn’t really knock our socks off.
The shrimp and grits was lovely. Don’t bother with the lobster roll
Emma was an amazing server. She was very knowledgeable about the menu. She was also very helpful to the people in our group who had special dietary needs. And best of all was her personality which made for a very enjoyable experience.
Good restaurant pick prior to Orpheum events. Great Sunday brunch service with bottomless mimosas.
Theatre event
Wonderful food and hospitality. Service was spot on. Really made our family dinner special.
I was flying into MSP on Thanksgiving day for a quick trip to see mom and dad. They wanted to cook but never eat the leftovers so I twisted their arms and made them go out. Downtown was great. Easy parking near restaurant door due to the holiday.
Nice small selection of rotating craft beer on draft. Drink menu looked excellent, but I didn’t want to overdo it. Full menu was available, however we all got the turkey and dressing special. Sides were good too... some sort of herbed brussel sprouts and a poblano cranberry sauce. Best part of all, we didn’t have to do the prep work or any dishes. Phew!
When traveling alone eating at the bar counter always makes the dining experience shine. Ani was a stellar mixologist and offered excellent hospitality on Thanksgiving eve. I had the traditional special Thanksgiving dinner and cocktails. Try A Night with Ani ... it is delish. Will definitely visit again and spend time in the Library Lounge downstairs. New baby grand just delived.
Expierence was excellent, my girlfriend and I had our anniversary dinner. We were given a complimentary glass of prosecco to toast our anniversary. The service was great being a packed house with the phantom of the oprah playing across the street . A special venue was repaired to honor the show. My girlfriend had the salmon and I had a fillet mignon with a side of the au gratin potatoes . Both were prepared to perfection . I highly recommend mercy to everyone . Ps. The mercy Manhattan is amazingly good
Very slow service. Food was luke warm at best. Lots of people were attending a show at the Orpheum theater across the street. That must happen all the time. You would think that Mercy would appropriately staff up for the theater crowd...but clearly they don't!
Uningaged server. Lights from hallway was irritating. Appetizers came served with the meal. Was horrible. Hanger steak was so tough couldn’t eat. All 4 meals were cold. Had to send back one meal of pork chop to be heated. Have to say, won’t be back.
Server said management knows about the lights but doesn’t address. I made reservations 2 weeks ago and got the worst table.
Food was very good and to our table promptly. Wait staff seemed genuinely interested in our comfort and pleasure.
Food was delicious and atmosphere was perfect. Great place for dinner before an event, wasn't too loud so that we could still talk and perfect location to walk across to the theatre! Staff was excellent!!
The Ratattouli was wonderful, servers were attentive.
Our drinks were fantastic, but our appetizer and entrees were strangled in seasonings and salt. We've never had a bad meal in the past, so we're hoping it was just an off night!
Really nice location and setting. The food was good, but not outstanding compared to other local options.
Mercy Bar & Dining was a very disappointing experience. The pictures online looked amazing. I was excited for a great meal before a show at the Orpheum. I ate in the library in the basement. A fun environment until water came up through the floor. Worse than that was the food. My potatoes came out cold. Batch 2 was warm with no flavor. The garlic bread seemed like a came out of the freezer. The squash meal was tasty, but small. The desert also seemed to have come right out of the freezer. To top it off, I order a cappuccino to end the night and it came out with absolutely no froth. The atmosphere is fun but the food is horrible. Go only for a drink.
The value just isn't there. The bread was the highlight of our meal.... The crab cake didn't have the chunks of crab we look for. The one thing that would get me to come back is the Verde cocktail sauce in the shrimp cocktail.
One of the best dining experiences in a long time. Exceptional service and food.
The service was slow. It took quite a while for our server to show up. Restaraunt smelled REALLY fishy. It was almost empty at 8 o'clock on a Friday night. Our paper menus were dirty and soiled with oil spots or something. At least give us clean ones, there is no one else here... We started looking for other restaurants on our phones while we waited for a server to show up. Once our server got to us, she was nice and tried very hard to turn us around. The food was ok in the end, but not good enough for me to want to go there again. There are way too many better places in this city.
We went there for dinner before going to a show across the street at the Orpheum Theatre. Even though we had plenty of time before the show, I appreciated that they made a point to be mindful of our plans. The food was really good and the service was great!
We were tested so well at Mercy! We will be back.
We started with a happy hour drink and ceviche at the bar. Very fun bar and the drinks/food were great. Then we had a drink downstairs in the very cool library lounge. All that followed by the best dinner out I've had in a long time. The food, wine and service was exceptional. We shared some great oysters and we all chose seafood for our entrees. I highly recommend the scallops!
Great location across from Orpheum Theater. Split the scallops and caprese with a friend, both were divine. Friendly, welcoming service.
The restaurant is nice, but the menu is quite limited. Our server wasn't great - which didn't help the situation. My biggest pet peeve is when menu items don't list all items in a dish when it's 'not common' I.e. heirlooms tomato salad and including capers.... There's not much to share and the portions don't equal the cost. There's far better restaurants around that the food is worth the price. Glad I popped in, but not worth it for a second visit...
When we arrived it was fairly quite. We received service right away and our appetizers were out within 10 minutes. It started getting busy and much louder and the server was pulled in a million directions. It almost 45 minutes or so after that for the food to arrive. We then waited 15 minutes after we finished dinner before we were able to grab our waitress and order dessert and it took 35 minutes for the dessert to come out. We almost had to leave because we were running out of time. Our reservation for 2 was 5:45pm and we walked out of the restaurant at 7:45pm for our 8pm show. The server was knowledgeable and pleasant they just weren’t prepared to deal with the rush.
The fall menu has many different options that are all well-worth considering. It was very hard to decide what to dine on! The stinger the bar tender prepared was the best one my husband has ever had. The portions were sufficient to allow for another meal for us which was an added bonus. A very nice evening and we will continue to return for more indulgences.
Nice, but expensive. Great cocktails, hangar steak was very good also.
Dion at the bar was fantastic! He took tIme to talk about the menu before we ordered! He took time for us to talk throughout our entire time having dinner and drinks. We enjoy Mercy every time before attending the theater because of servers and bartenders like Dion!
First time for our party of 4. Food was just ok but felt is should have been way better for the prices. We each said we wouldn’t order our entrees again. It’s very noisy and there were too many staff just watching around aimlessly. Best part was the valet parking attendant who had our car waiting at the curb for our convenience when the show ended at the orpheum!
After a couple of visits that were not up to the usual Mercy standards, we returned to give it another chance. We were happy to find that things had returned to normal. Our server Katie was outstanding. She was attentive without being obtrusive. The food was great. Everything was perfect from the garlic bread to the desert. As usual, our wine was not only great but fairly priced. Jace made sure that things were done properly and stopped by several times to make sure. I am happy to report that Mercy is back on the top of the list of our favorite restaurants. You can't go wrong with dinner before a show at Mercy.
Excellent food that changes seasonally and outstanding service! Great place for dinner before attending a show at the Orpheum.
The food and service was wonderful. Scallops was amazing.
Nice food and nice atmosphere and perfectly located & timed to get to the show at the Orpheum.
We had a great pre-concert dinner. Katie, our server, was terrific!
Very expensive for mediocre food. The service was so-so
Maybe we went out of season but our all you can eat crab wasn't very good. we kept getting really cruddy pieces over and over again. our bill for 4 people was over 340. only one drink ordered. lame. first time was great this second time not so much.
What exceptional food! We asked for recommendations and got great food! The crab cake was outstanding! The heirloom tomato burrata was amazing and the BBQ carrots were a delight!
Well done!
Amazing food. My boyfriend and I were just in the cities for a night and this was the perfect place to go. Unique, delicious food and great service.
