Excellent service and food
Maybe our expectations are different being from the South but one would think that a table would be checked on at least once after drinks and food have been served. The restaurant was not busy at our arrival and we were promptly sat. We were given the brunch menu and sticker shock went into affect. I ordered the eggs with home fries and a side of bacon. The eggs were cooked very well but the bacon was over cooked. My wife and son split the fish and chips. It was two pieces of fried cod and some fries. They say it was good. My daughter had the fried chicken sandwich. She said it was good. Nothing was bad but for the price it could have been better. The restaurant offers great views as it faces directly across the river into Jersey. If knowing I had friends in the area visiting I would suggest them thinking about trying however I don't think we would return.
Not thrilled with our first experience there. We went relatively early for happy hour. The tequila soda that I ordered was way too strong so I had to send it back and then the drink I got back was vodka (???). Didn’t want to send it back again so I just dealt with it. Then, I asked if we could get spinach & artichoke dip but with tortilla chips instead of the pita chips since my SO has a gluten allergy. The server responded by saying no, that they couldn’t substitute and that the kitchen doesn’t even have those available. I was confused because chips & guac are also on the HH menu and I assumed it would be an easy substitution. A few minutes later, after we told the server that we wouldn’t be getting food since we couldn’t make the substitution, I see the kitchen eating nachos with tortilla chips???? I was so confused and a little upset because I thought they weren’t available.
Anyway, a bit disappointed because this was our first time and we were excited to have a place this close to our building.
Merchants has been and remains one of my favorite restaurants. Staff consistently accommodating and kind, as is the view (one of my favorite sunset spots). The food , cocktails and wine are relatively straightforward and delicious. I go here for special occasions and
“just because “, as the experience has you feel like it’s a special occasion. They also have a few clear heated tents outside which looked magical.
Overpriced food. Also why would you cut my steak for me?! Ruined it. Server barely checked on us. Would have had more to drink but I could see her hanging out by the bar. Won’t be back.
This is our favorite restaurant in Manhattan. Every time we visit NYC, we go to Merchants Riverhouse, because it’s a cozy and beautiful place with great service and very good quality food. The view to Jersey city across the Hudson River is beautiful and also our favorite view, especially at sundown! Thank you! Marina
Made a reservation to dine outdoors. Really, it's an indoor greenhouse, but it was a quiet night and my friend and I were the only ones in there. I worried we would be forgotten, but that was not the case. The wait staff was attentive throughout, even though we were the only ones out there. The food was delicious. We split two appetizers and an entrée and frankly, overate. It's a lovely spot with a river view, though it's partially obscured from the greenhouse. I highly recommend the avocado fries!
Merchants River House probably has the best view of the Hudson River available from any Manhattan restaurant. It’s fun to watch the river traffic, including the occasional cruise ship going by. They open at 4 p.m. and don’t generally don’t get crowded until much later.
Pre theater on a cold December Sunday.
Opened at 12, with a bunch of reservations and they were still setting up. Hostess was doing many tasks including checking vax cards.. we are aware that every place is short staffed, but it felt like we showed up unannounced to hosts that were is a frenzy. Food was good.. it was, pricey but not for the city or current times. I had a glass of red whine that was nice and served in an appropriate glass
My friends Aperol Spritz was in a small white wine glass, 1/2 filled w ice for 16 bucks. Could have been worse.. across from us were 2 bloody Mary’s served in a rocks glass. I’ve not yet seen that done before.
Coffee in very annoying large espresso cups.
Not much down here, beautiful view after they tried to seat us in a 2 top in a corner even though we were second group in with a resy.. poor couple after us got that table.
If you are in the area and want a nice view with a less than sophisticated service team, it’s fine. I wouldn’t travel to go back down there. Burger was great even though over cooked to my medium rare order
The cauliflower “steak” is just half a head of cauliflower. Frustrating for a vegetarian since these are commonly a vegan steak made from cauliflower. This was not. Portions were fine but the pear and spinach salad was underwhelming. Views are great. Service was good. The kitchen had some sort of burning grease issue and the place filled with the scent of it. Won’t return.
I made a reservation for an outdoor table because we have a newborn at home and are still trying to play it a little safe these days. After reading some reviews on some prior issues with outdoor seating I called a day ahead to confirm there would be a heated outdoor section and that my reservation was locked in for that area, which they confirmed. When we arrived and checked in we were told that because the restaurant was busy with a party we would need to eat indoors. After explaining the situation to them we were allowed to be seated outside in a very cute greenhouse type structure next to a heat lamp. The beginning of the meal went great, but about 1/4 of the way through another couple was seated in the outdoor section and once they turned their heat lamp on it tripped the electrical system and the lights and both heat lamps went out. This happened no less than 10 times throughout the meal and by the end of our meal we all gave up on even attempting to run the space heaters and just ate the rest of our meal in the freezing cold. Given the outdoor section was set up for at least 4x as many diners you would think that this is something that they would have a solution for. While they kept resetting the circuit breaker and attempting to turn everything back on, no one came out to formally apologize or even acknowledge the fact that we were eating our dinner in the cold. I never expect anything free but typically in that situation when the customer is so inconvenienced the restaurant will try to make it right. If this was just a normal dinner I wouldn't have been so disappointed but this was meant to be a special night out for my husband's 40th, and unfortunately it just turned into a frigid cold meal that we could barely enjoy.
Très bonne adresse
Service très bien
Nourriture frais à à un prix raisonnable pour New York
Très jolie vue
Merci pour votre accueil
Friday date night , dinner and then the theater.
everything great except sometimes music is too loud
Took our kids to eat and see the Statue of Liberty during sunset. We had reservations, but we were almost the only ones there. Food was good. Pricey but no more than anything else in the city. Great views!
The merchant has spectacular views of the skyline and the food was delicious. We’re definitely going back!
Loved the view. Great waitress.
Great location plus great service and food. Will definitely be returning!
The view was great. The food was great. Service was very good. We were just too close to the opening / entering door on a cold night. I would take clients again!
The appetizers (avocado fries and lobster mac n cheese) were very promising for the meal to come. I was underwhelmed by the steak I got with my caesar salad. Our server Kamilla (?) was very quiet and short with us and gave us an awkward vibe making the night even less enjoyable. All the other employees that stopped by our table were very friendly and kind!
Excellent view of the Hudson River and I would definitely be returning.
Very good experience! Beautiful location right on the River, service was attentive, and food was very good. The random photographer was a little weird but I’d definitely recommend the restaurant.
absolutely amazing. the food is great, service is top notch, vibes are immaculate. i recommend this place to all.
Nice atmosphere and tasty food. Server might have been on the job for the first time but an overall nice experience.
We are not from New York. Servers and hostess look down their noses at us. We won’t return.
The view and food are amazing! However, the server’s attitude put a sour taste in me and my friend’s mouths. The not so enthusiastic server is the only reason for less than 5 stars.
Great location and view! Good value, as well. Will definitely recommend to friends visiting that area.
This is a good place to have dinner in lower Manhattan with a river view. An unexpected storm blew in and the staff stood outside over a large family and held umbrellas over them. The restaurant was too small to move them inside. These guys went out of their way to help this poor family. We were really impressed with the staff.
Bad wifi and few outlets
It had beautiful view, helpful staff, amazing food
Slow waiter, delicious food! Worth it
This was our first time here at Merchants River House. We sat outside to enjoy the weather. The food was excellent. Our service was alright. We were seated immediately and placed our drinks and appetizer order which came out quickly. After that our server kind of disappeared. Eventually another server arrived and took our entree orders. Aside from that, there were no complaints. The managerial staff stopped by our table at least twice to check in on our evening. I would definitely eat there again.
Do something about the bathroom lines! Staff waiting on tables took too long to bring items requested. For the price paid for their starter appetizers $17 for spinach dip that was not worth that price. Half would have been better.
The weather was nice so we ate outside, with views of the river and the Esplanade. Service was efficient and friendly, food was very good. Reasonable for NYC
Ice machine not working for frozen drinks
Asked for a birthday dessert on opentable reservation no dessert was provided
Steak took over 35 mins to come out
Starting with the rat that ran behind me, there were flies, bees, nats, and mosquitos everywhere including our food that was inedible and cold. This restaurant has so much hope from the outside but it does not live up to the image portrayed
