Merchants is located in a historic building on the corner of 4th and Broadway in downtown Nashville that dates back to 1892. The building has been a myriad things, including a pharmacy, a wholesale drug company, and even a hotel. In 1988 it became Merchants restaurant. In 2010, the Goldberg brothers purchased the three-floor restaurant and gave it new life. The first floor bistro, with its black and white theme, features a lively atmosphere and casual cuisine. The second floor offers finer fare and a more intimate feel. The third floor is reserved for special events.
seasonal succotash, herbed aioli
Duck Fat Tater Tots
spicy ranch, creole honey mustard, smoked ketchup
Great experience...we went for a birthday dinner. Super nice interior and good food. The restaurant staff was very careful with their dining experience. Our temperatures were taken as we entered and we sat at least 6 ft apart from other tables. Menus were single sheet, recyclable paper and the utensils were carefully wrapped in sealed paper bags. Hand sanitizer was available at our table. Great location off Broadway with parking near by.
Great place to people watch!
Deviled eggs and duck fat tots were amazing.
I had the salmon BLT and friend had the turkey club. Both with sweet potato fries.
Zero complaints. Will definitely be back.
I enjoyed the restaurant but they have changed so that there are actually two restaurants—one a “bistro” and the steakhouse. I thought I was reserving the steakhouse and was stuck in the bistro. The selection not as extensive.
Merchant's was awesome! It was our anniversary, and they really helped make it special. The food, especially the duck fat tater tots, are amazing! Highly recommend Merchant's to anyone!
Great food and service. Noise level louder than a regular restaurant because of its location and patrons from Broadway.
Awesome restaurant.....great food and staff. We love it! Just hard to get in prime times without a reservation.
The tables are extremely wide and with the noise in the room we really couldn’t have a conversation
This is my third visit, and I love it so much. Order the Old-fashioned! And this sounds odd, but I love the Wedge Salad with Salmon added on. It's the perfect spot before any event in downtown Nashville.
The deviled eggs are amazing. The rest of the food was okay. We were expecting a table away from the noise, but didn’t get one.
Clearly not as good as it once was. From the start it felt like our server was wanting to turn the table. Returning 3 times to see if we were ready to order. We had ordered cocktails and said we wanted to wait for our drinks before ordering. It got to the point of annoying. The night before we ate at the Black Rabbit where the food was far superior as was the service so the contrast was startling. Our prior experience was much better but now the restaurant has the feel of a tourist trap. Hopefully it was an isolated experience but I suspect not.
Excellent food and even better service. Thanks KB and Ashley!!
The atmosphere was very nice. We were seated for at least 5 minutes before we ordered drinks.
There were 4 of us so we ordered the 24oz porterhouse to split and the Caesar salad to split. They tried to tell us that the salad is just for two people but there was plenty for 4. The porterhouse was cooked to our liking but my first bite told me that it was sitting a while before they brought it out because it was not hot at all. The brussel sprouts were too sweet and not roasted, they looked and tasted boiled.
The desserts were great. And the deviled eggs were awesome.
Not great. Salmon BLT very fishy and not good. Great view of downtown. Music was very loud but I’m okay with that Place is usually good but never order the salmon BLT. We ordered two - waitress said it was great. Probably worst tasting fish I’ve ever had. I did Not complain or send it back — we didn’t even eat it. I took From friends from out of town and was very embarrassed, ugh.
excellent service and food....wait staff was outstanding...had family visiting from Quebec and they were very impressed with restaurant. i am local and eat there often.
Serving the salads with the loose mixed greens is a cheep way to go and is not good ... go the extra mile
And add Romain and iceberg. Chili was not hot ...
Ambiance, convenience, service and hospitality were all great. Service was timely and servers were attentive and southern polite. It was all good except for the 6oz filet. The steak was ordered medium rare and the cooking was right on. However the steak was not tender but very "chewy".
All else was very good and we will return.
It was my husband’s bday.. food was great & service was exceptional!
We ate on the second floor and is was a bit chilly, they needed to bump up the heat.
I had the filet medallions and there were just three small ones. Thought they could have been thicker cuts or more of them.
Meghan was our service and in training. She did a great job!
What a great place & food was excellent! Great wine selection!
Robert was the very best and made the entire experience for us! Talk about going above and beyond! He was so detailed and observant. I eat out 3-5 nights a week and Robert was the best I have had in many years! Congrats to Robert and keep up the amazing work!
I would recommend it, but not for a nice quiet evening out. The music was so loud that the server couldn’t hear me order and I had to practically yell. He tried to get them to turn it down. This was at 5pm. I think the restaurant is trying to compete with the bars and honky tonks surrounding it. The food was good, but too pricey given the bar feel.
Limited lunchtime menu but excellent food and excellent service. I often schedule lunch meetings here.
We took our two daughters here before a show downtown. The food was wonderful as always, the service was great and the whole family enjoyed it.
This was our first time in Nashville but we ate in Merchants twice for pur dinner, something we don't normally do in a new city. The food, atmosphere and the staff were second to none.
We had the flat iron steak coupled with a glass of Greystone which was devine. Could not recommend this establishment high enough.
Everyone enjoyed their meals, and we order tator tots for an app. You won't leave hungry. Nicholas was great and funny too.
Met family at Merchants before the Preds game. Everything was great. Especially love the Mac cheese and brisket
Food was good. Mistake on order was handled professionally and removed from our bill. Good experience overall.
Server had an extremely dirty apron which was discouraging from the get-go and then they bugged the heck out of us - to hurry up. We were there less than an hour and spent around $140. Won’t be back.
Should have asked to be moved to a table upstairs. We were seated at a booth in the bar area. The music was so loud we had a difficult time having a conversation.
Tater tots and pork chop were both very good. Macaroni and cheese was bland and mushy.
Been to Merchants many times on visits to Nashville before. This was the worst experience of them all.
Great dinner! Definitely make reservations. Very cool vibe
Service was great. Food was great. A little noisy at first but was a really good experience overall.
Great place. Our server, Nick was terrific. It was my wife's birthday and he made us feel very welcome. The hostess gave us a quick tour of the restaurant and told us about the history of the place. Manager thanked us for coming and made us want to come back next time we’re in town.😋😋
Spent a Saturday afternoon @ Merchants a couple
Years ago. Great service and food then, had to go back with my daughter during our visit this week. Loved the Duck Fat Tator Tots! Our waitperson was Darryl and he was awesome!
It was just ok! Food was ok. Nothing special.
Awesome service! Even had a little birthday surprise!
We had a special Sunday lunch on the 2nd floor. The meal was delicious. Our waiter, Gary, did an amazing job. The entire staff went out of their way to ensure things were just as we liked them to be. I have been to Merchants several times and am never disappointed.
Haley was the best server. The restaurant is warm and welcoming. They let us order off the steakhouse menu down in the bistro. The steaks were perfectly cooked. Sides were Delicious. Great wine selection. Best meal we had in Nashville
Delicious, but very overpriced -- especially the drinks.
I made reservations for the restaurant on the second floor but we were seated downstairs at the bar/ lounge. When I asked about it I was told they were completely full upstairs and they would have to redo my reservation.
We got to sit at the table next to the swing doors and we were feeezing as it was extremely cold that night and people were constantly in and out.
