About Merchant's Restaurant
Merchants restaurant is located in a historic building on the corner of 4th and Broadway in downtown Nashville that dates back to 1892. The building has been a myriad things, including a pharmacy, a wholesale drug company, and even a hotel. In 1988 it became Merchants restaurant. In 2010, the Goldberg brothers purchased the three-floor restaurant and gave it new life. The first floor bistro with its black and white theme features a lively atmosphere and casual cuisine. The second floor offers finer fare and a more intimate feel. The third floor is reserved for special events.

Merchant's Restaurant Ratings and Reviews
We lived in Franklin for 5 years . We frequently go downtown when our if town visitors come in town . We have been to merchants and recommending merchants many times . Our son was in town and he wanted to go downtown for xmas eve day brunch - the titans were playing that day . The food was terrible . My husband had gumbo and he could not eat it - it had the consistency of flour/gravy - he loves gumbo and has had it all over the country - and IT WAS $18 fir a bowl! My son had turkey club - cane in plain white toasted bread and the turkey was dry and no flavor - I had a Cobb salad with rotessire chicken - same as the turkey - no favor - dry
We will not going back soon - try party fowl or the southern - have not been disappointed by them yet
Service was great, although the food was a bit lackluster. The much lauded tots were not hot, and the food to follow was much the same. Overall, the taste didn't match the value of the food in my opinion. Great atmosphere, nice selection of drinks, but not quite what I was looking for.
Our first trip to Nashville and we wanted to eat downtown. I mentioned this was our first trip to Nashville when making the reservation, and we were given a great corner booth with windows on two sides. Great for people watching! We sat on the first floor which is more casual, but still was not too noisy. Great option for casual dining.
MTY wife, son and I went to Merchants before the 9:30 PM Ryman Auditorium show on Saturday. Very convenient- only two blocks away.We ate in the 2nd floor dining room and it was a nice quiet alternative to the craziness of Lower Broadway. Our appetizers and entrees were served very timely and were absolutely delicious. The Tuna tartare and heirloom tomato salad were awesome and two of us ordered the steak cut of Teres major (grilled beef shoulder) that I had never had but was really flavorful. Merchant's is relatively expensive but not out of sight for a very nice meal. If you want an alternative to the bar food and specialty houses, Merchants provides a very nice and impressive setting for a genuinely good meal. We will definitely return.
The steaks were delicious and on par with New York City prices. However, the server did not ask if we would like a second drink and the food came out so quickly we did not enjoy a leisurely dinner. As a wine drinker, paying $13 for a 4oz pour from what I know is a $15-17 bottle of wine is seriously overpriced. We did return for lunch on the first floor and had a fantastic experience.
A fun and delicious night! Our server, Eric, was friendly and engaging. The cocktails were creative (love the names). Do not miss the whipped ricotta or smoked corn soup - both outstanding appetizers. The baby romaine was one of the best riffs on a Caesar salad I've ever had - the toasted bread crumbs were so much better than croutons! My scallops were cooked perfectly. The lobster hollandaise is a a must with the steak. The only miss was the truffle mac'n'cheese which was rather bland. But when we mentioned this to Eric, he immediately offered to replace it. The bacon & potato gratin was a yummy substitute.
We were a party of 6 and the service was flawless. Just the right amount of pacing. All six of us were presented each course at the same time and each course from cocktails to dessert was 5 star! The food is upscale without being pretentious. The atmosphere is charming and lively.
In Nashville for an evening to enjoy the music scene we made a reservation on the 1st floor as we did not want a formal dining experience. The place was very busy, but service was attentive and food came out quickly. My sister and I started out with a salad which we shared - it was MASSIVE - seriously enough for at least 4 people. I then had the BBQ pork which was disappointing, rather dry and without flavor (the onion strings and pickles were good). As expected the duck fat tater tots were amazing. My sister's double cheeseburger was okay, nothing special. The highlight of my meal was one of the best cocktails I've ever had: the Roughin' It Old Fashioned.
Great evening. Matt was our server and he was good. Drinks were very slow to arrive and he and the manager both apologized. The fried green tomatoes were just ok as were the tater tots. The wings were awesome!
Yvonne makes some really good drinks which we had on Sunday!
This happy place is right on Broadway, making for a welcome break from the fun but bar-centric honky tonks. Service was great, although the menu is simply diner food. Apparently there's a fancier restaurant upstairs with a separate menu. Maybe we weren't dressed up enough but that option wasn't mentioned when we checked in.
We chose Merchants mostly so we could valet before a symphony concert. When we arrived, we were told valet was not available; leaving us scrambling for parking in downtown Nashville on a Saturday night; which sucks.
Once we were seated, the food and service were outstanding as usual.
