Merchants is located in a historic building on the corner of 4th and Broadway in downtown Nashville that dates back to 1892. The building has been a myriad things, including a pharmacy, a wholesale drug company, and even a hotel. In 1988 it became Merchants restaurant. In 2010, the Goldberg brothers purchased the three-floor restaurant and gave it new life. The first floor bistro, with its black and white theme, features a lively atmosphere and casual cuisine. The second floor offers finer fare and a more intimate feel. The third floor is reserved for special events.
1st Floor Bistro
Multiple dates availableThe street-level entrance of Merchants leads to a vibrant black and white bistro, often filled with a cross-section of local business men and women, tourists and those attending events in the downtown area. The bistro boasts quality cocktails, comfortable food, and impeccable service.
2nd Floor Steakhouse
Multiple dates availableThe second floor of Merchants is open for dinner has a totally different vibe than the bistro. A little fancier and more upscale, it has a separate menu from the bistro. The dining room on the second floor offers more refined dishes, a more expansive wine list, and several top-tier steak options.
Mac N' Cheese
mixed cheese blend, toasted panko
grilled flat iron, watercress, mint, english cucumbers, radish, fresno chile lime vinaigrette
Duck Fat Tater Tots

We had an excellent dining experience celebrating a wedding anniversary. The only disappointment was regarding my cocktail. I wanted either green olives or cherries in my drink. Neither one was available. It seemed unusual that they were out of a those common garnishes.
Picked this f=without knowing anything bout Nashville. Excellent choice for me as this is real southern cooking in authentic Nashville facility. No loud noises or crowed spaces.
Downstairs booths are far to small...extremely tight for normal size adults. Duck Fat Tater Totes and Grilled Salmon were delicious. Unfortunately the bartender could not make a Dirty Martini....no olives per our server. Disappointing!
Had the chili and cornbread before a show. Chili was just warm and unremarkable and cornbread was dry but warm. Great service and nice atmosphere.
Great dining experience! Paul, our waiter, was wonderful and attentive. The Cobb salad was delicious and the tater tots were so good!
Exceptional service and very accommodating for a bigger party.
Overall a solid meal in a comfortable atmosphere. The server was attentive but not too intrusive. Definitely would come back again.
We had a wonderful experience at Merchants. Mark was our server and he did a great job! Very kind and attentive. Everyone in our party’s steak was perfectly cooked! We will be back.
Our server was impeccable- patient, gracious and knowledgeable. The meat was exquisitely cooked and served. And the atmosphere was perfect for my mother in law’s 86th birthday!
Service was not great. My prime rib was over cooked and server did not even check with me after the meal was put on table.
We enjoyed it
We enjoyed our time, the upstairs was comfortable & minimal noise.
Service was ok. The server was less than enthusiastic and his patience was less than stellar when we asked for a minute to look over the drink menu. We asked for our carafe to be refilled so he took it but never returned with water. Food was food and hot. All in all it was pretty good. He did take his time bringing our bill.
Great food and location to people watch on Broadway. The Thanksgiving plate was delicious as was the rest of the meal. Will be back to try more of their selection.
Fabulous. Great Thanksgiving dinner. Friendly staff. Beautiful environment and great food! Highly recommend.
We had a wonderful Thanksgiving dinner right on the corner of broadway!
A great historical place, good classical food, super friendly waitress, a good place to catch up with old friends, although too noisy for talking.
Weve dined at merchants for lunch and found the food tasty and the service excellent. This recent visit was above and beyond what i expected! This time we dined on the second, beautiful setting with a great view. The food was phenomenal but the service was probably the best I have ever experienced! Our server was the sweetest, all of her recommendations were on point. She made my daughter feel so special on her bday! Thank you Merchants!
Expensive for steaks that were nothing special. Brussel sprouts were mushy. Wine and drink were best part of meal.
We enjoyed our dinner there. I thought the Prime Rib was a bit "stringy," but tasted good. Our server forgot to do separate checks for two of the people who requested them, but graciously took care of it when reminded.
The ambiance was nice and the service was great but for the price we paid, we expected more. The steak was over cooked and the sides were bland with little flavor.
Excellent food and service. We arrived a little late and with not much time before the kitchen was closing but they did not rush our party of four and we thoroughly enjoyed the ambiance and delicious food. The salmon and steak were both beautifully prepared and plentiful. Don't miss the mac and cheese appetizer!!
A delight. Highly recommend! Sanity in an otherwise crazy Broadway St experience!
The experience on the second floor was interesting and different from downstairs. Not many options but the food was good.
The tomato bisque was outstanding. The lamb rack was good, but it came unaccompanied by anything like rice and a vegetable. Just meat. The waiter should have informed me of that fact. The dessert was very tasty--a butter scotch brownie with ice cream.
The ambience was somewhat harmed by an idiot out on the sidewalk drumming on five gallon buckets with an amplifier attached. When I walked by him to get into the restaurant the noise literally hurt my ears and it was clearly audible inside.
We love visiting here when we are in Nashville. Favorite wings. Great dry rub. Cocktails are unique and delightful.
Incredible meal, everyone's dish was perfectly done, nice ambiance. Bit noisy in the Bistro, but not too much.
The service and the food were wonderful but it was so noisy we could not carry on a conversation at a table for four.
Paul our server was awesome, very attentive and went above and beyond accommodating our special request. Would definitely dine here again.
Favorite dining experience in Nashville. Unique and historic building, great location and service with traditional very good food.
Great food and service. Vibe was relaxed. Good coffee and popcorn fun surprise! Highly recommended for tourists or natives.
Another great experience at merchants. It’s a shame they don’t have a brunch menu, originally wanted to go to another spot that had a 90 minute wait. We got into Merchants and glad we did. Always good food.
Food was great, atmosphere was fun, music was terrific and Sam, our server, was awesome! Will be back!
Service & food were outstanding. Our server was a lot of fun!
Great service. Super fast and food was great.
Went for the prime rib. At 8:00 pm they were out. Had to pivot to a strip steak. It was not anything close to a strip steak. Very grizzly not edible. Broccoli burnt. Do not recommend there are lots of better option in the area.
Best Prime Rib in a restaurant ever.
It was possible to have it rare something impossible in most restaurants.
Only drawback is the wine list is not at the level of the quality of the meat.
Hands down one of the best restaurants in downtown Nashville! Food was amazing, Brett our waiter was fantastic! Highly recommend!
