Merchants is located in a historic building on the corner of 4th and Broadway in downtown Nashville that dates back to 1892. The building has been a myriad things, including a pharmacy, a wholesale drug company, and even a hotel. In 1988 it became Merchants restaurant. In 2010, the Goldberg brothers purchased the three-floor restaurant and gave it new life. The first floor bistro, with its black and white theme, features a lively atmosphere and casual cuisine. The second floor offers finer fare and a more intimate feel. The third floor is reserved for special events.
1st Floor Bistro
Multiple dates availableThe street-level entrance of Merchants leads to a vibrant black and white bistro, often filled with a cross-section of local business men and women, tourists and those attending events in the downtown area. The bistro boasts quality cocktails, comfortable food, and impeccable service.
2nd Floor Steakhouse
Multiple dates availableThe second floor of Merchants is open for dinner has a totally different vibe than the bistro. A little fancier and more upscale, it has a separate menu from the bistro. The dining room on the second floor offers more refined dishes, a more expansive wine list, and several top-tier steak options.
Mac N' Cheese
mixed cheese blend, toasted panko
grilled flat iron, watercress, mint, english cucumbers, radish, fresno chile lime vinaigrette
Duck Fat Tater Tots
spicy ranch, creole honey mustard, smoked ketchup
Sad they took the pimento and cheese off and the bacon off the deviled eggs! Our favorite spot when we come to Nashville and were kinda sad it changed management because it was our ritual to come here first on trips!
We had an amazing time celebrating our wedding anniversary. We had the best waiter and the food was delicious.
Great staff, service, and attention to detail
Everything was excellent !!! Food was delicious !!
We made a point of going to Merchants in Nashville because we’d heard so many great things. The night we went we were celebrating my BIL’s birthday. What a wonderful place to celebrate and be able to hear each other in conversation. We ordered the duck fat tator tots which were delicious. We had the pork chop, chicken fried chicken, and jambalaya. Everyone loved their entrees. We shared the peach cobbler and chocolate cake for dessert. Amazing! Our server Mars took great care of us and was knowledgeable about the menu. This is a gem on Broadway.
Second floor dining experience was excellent for special occasion dinner
Needed a good place on our first day arriving in Nashville. This place was very good. Are on the second floor which was a little quieter than the first floor where the bar is. Really craved the fried green tomatoes and our server got them for us even though they were Tom the upstairs menu. They were wonderful. Option sizes are huge especially the desserts. But definitely worth the visit.
Visited Merchant's with friends of ours who live in Nashville while in town from Detroit. They don't dine at restaurants on Broadway often because it's just too busy and "touristy" so they were skeptical. Both agreed that the food was outstanding and the ambiance was even better. Our reservation was for the second floor which is a little more "upscale" and definitely quieter than the first floor dining space. Our server was Mark and he was spectacular. Our meal was served quickly and all items were exactly as we ordered. I would definitely recommend this spot and our friends agreed they will revisit again as well.
We had a reservation for 5 people & were seated right away. We ordered cocktails. Tennessee Mojito was phenomenal! Two appetizers, cheese curds & spinach dip. Spinach dip was really good, cheese curds were decent. Service was wonderful. Our order was correct. I personally had the Cobb Salad and it was delicious!! We will definitely plan a stop by Merchants the next time we are in Nashville.
Saturday night dinner. Made to wait 20 minutes after reservation time yet 4 available tables when finally seated. The ambiance of the second floor was much nicer than the first floor. Our waiter was not concerned with our experience snd only concerned with getting us in and out. We told him the steaks weren’t cooked correctly and he didn’t offer sending them back to be made properly. 6 oz filet was $42 and it should’ve been cooked to order. They had no flavor whatsoever. We seasoned them with salt and pepper. The potatoes tasted like they came out of a box. We ordered the candied bacon as an appetizer and it was tasteless and chewy. Made another mistake snd ordered one of the three desserts. The brownie smelled very strongly of cleaning fluid so we told waiter who said he’d take it off bill. We didn’t eat a bite of it. He never offered to try another dessert. We never saw a manager to speak to him/her. Someone needs to know the problems and I’m sure the waiter never told anyone about the steaks or the dessert. Very disappointed for an expensive meal.
Don’t bother going to this place. Mediocre service and less than that food.
Not only did we sit right down but the service was awesome and the food was fresh and hot
Our server was amazing!!! The hostesses were not helpful and very short with our group! The food and atmosphere were amazing!
We went here early in a Friday night before a show at the Ryman. Excellent service and great food. Cocktails were very tasty and the people watching out the window into Broadway was very entertaining. I will absolutely go again when I’m in Nashville.
Zander and Debbie and all the hostess staff were phenomenal .. and we highly recommend merchants.
We never got our food after
Love going to Merchant’s before a hockey game. Food is always good with something for everyone. Highly recommend the duck fat fried tater tots.
Service, food and cocktails were excellent. We had a reservation and got seated right away.
Great service. Food was excellent. Will definitely recommend and return.
In town for one night and went there for rare Prime Rib. It was perfect, delicious.
Experience was fantastic. Had a reservation for upstairs dining originally. They reached out and asked if I could move downstairs as there was a big group event upstairs that evening. Management showed up with two complimentary appetizers when we arrived and thanked us for changing. Had a great table right on Broadway and meal was excellent.
Duck fat tater tots are a tasty treat! Generous portion for sharing. We had the strawberry salad w/ salmon and it was delicious! Open Table made reservations a breeze-staff was friendly, atmosphere in the first floor bistro is lively with great people-watching along Broadway! Would recommend.
Love the vibe of the whole restaurant. Has an old time feel but played what I consider almost punk music. The food was fantastic! I got the soup & Sammy combo with homemade chips. Our waitress was also very attentive.
Best food I’ve had!!!!!! The staff was amazing and their food and drinks were fantastic.
Our server, Maddie, was excellent. Made our dinner great.
Came in for dinner during a bachelorette party and everything was fantastic!
Fabulous food, great service
Can be busy so make reservations.
Great alternative to the bars on Broadway.
Wonderful experience! The food was amazing, great service, and a wonderful atmosphere! We would highly recommend.
Always good and I love that it’s not a chain. Amazing service and food
Nice view, quiet compared to other places on Broadway. Food was okay, not outstanding, for the cost. Overall a nice dining experience on Broadway.
Really fun place. We are at the bistro first floor. Our server was very personable and gave great recommendations. The Mac n cheese with pulled pork was amazing..
This place is exceptional! We were seated at a table right next to the window which was great for people watching. Food was delicious and executed just right. Would highly recommend!
The food and service were wonderful! It was a little loud but it's also right on Broadway near all the bars. Wish we had saved room for dessert!
My wife said her pork porterhouse was very good. My prime rib was good but not great. The mac and cheese and 50/50 potatoes were very good.
It was the end of the night - great server, but I was a little disappointed in the pork chop. Always have to get the duck fat tater tots!
Food was excellent and service was great!
On Broadway so you know its going to be over hyped which it was. Service was great . Pricey for the food even for the steaks but thats Broadway. We ate upstairs
I would definitely make this a priority stop for dinner! Our waiter Richard was very attentive and everything he recommended was perfect.
