Merchants is located in a historic building on the corner of 4th and Broadway in downtown Nashville that dates back to 1892. The building has been a myriad things, including a pharmacy, a wholesale drug company, and even a hotel. In 1988 it became Merchants restaurant. In 2010, the Goldberg brothers purchased the three-floor restaurant and gave it new life. The first floor bistro, with its black and white theme, features a lively atmosphere and casual cuisine. The second floor offers finer fare and a more intimate feel. The third floor is reserved for special events.

We are both air line employees who try different restaurants everywhere we travel to. This is the only restaurant out of my 9 years of flying that I will come back to immediately. Our waitress was amazing and the manager on duty was so friendly. I will be back next week to eat more of the chicken friend chicken and chess pie. Thank you for a great experience!
I would recommend, local staple restaurant on lower Broadway.
Went to Merchants and sat upstairs with 5 friends. We all ordered filets and none were prepared as requested. The service was great but both the food and drinks were mediocre at best. I did enjoy the a la carte crab cake but the price was a little high, $17 for one crab cake for a single individual is a little steep for this caliber of restaurant.
Great waitress! Go Blue!
I ate here previously and greatly enjoyed. Unfortunately this meal I had the NY strip that had excessive fat.
Great food and great atmosphere
Went here for our 20th anniversary, everything was great from food to drinks, ambiance was great!!
Got our table right away. It was very cold during our meal even though we requested the fan be turned off so suggest sweater or jacket. We both got salmon and it had very little flavor. Would not order again. The meal was not hot. Very dissatisfied.
Great food! We got carried away with the appetizers and sides and ever ordered a main. We really enjoyed the bacon appetizer and the biscuits were to die for.
Great food and service! Would definitely recommend!
Excellent food in the steakhouse! Amazing biscuits!
The music is deafeningly loud, to the point of having to shout over it. Turning it down just a little would be greatly appreciated!
The service was extremely slow our food was subpar spent an hour and a half total most of that was waiting for our food or our waitress to come back ask if we needed anything refill our glasses it was terrible I will never go there again
Our dinner was a complete joy with food, service and value all being at an above average level
Our waiter wasn’t trained enough. He brought us the wrong wine & opened it before he looked at it. We took it, but there were other things that went wrong. The manager comped our wine.
Great service. We have celiac disease and they were very accommodating. Would recommend to a friend
The popcorn was fantastic. We also ordered the tator tots and they are wonderful. It is a huge portion. I had the pork loin and it was good but a tad dry. My daughter had the Mac and cheese. It was fantastic. Overall a good meal. Will be back for sure
Service was great. Food can always be cheaper I think, but the quality of the service made the price almost irrelevant for me. I was treated with so much care and respect and enjoyed getting to know my waiter and bartenders.
Stopped in for lunch and had a great Salmon BLT with homemade chips. Alcoholic drinks are pricey but the food was great and reasonably priced. KB was our server and he was very friendly and attentive.
Crab cakes were delicious and hardly any fillers.
Although we are Nashville natives, we had never dined at Merchants before! We love the vintage vibe and decor as well as being seated at the window for perfect people watching. Our server was a bit absent minded and we had to ask for things multiple times but overall a good experience.
Easter weekend vacation with family.
Nice place, great service, saw the manager help walk a blind person back to the seat from a restroom, thought it a great gesture
We enjoyed every aspect of our brunch, from the beautiful decor to the extremely knowledgeable and kind waiter to the amazing food.
Always a great break from Broadway!! Food is wonderful. Service great. Felt like they wanted us there. #trythetots
Great casual Atmosphere
The rotisserie chicken is Amazing
Good place to meet up and have an enjoyable meal
Atmosphere, location, and service are great! The food was VERY mediocre. The worst prime rib I have ever had as far as texture/toughness goes. My fiancé also got sick from the grilled chicken sandwich.
Perfect place for dinner on Broadway!
This was a great find. We ate upstairs and the meal was awesome and the service very good. The prime rib and crab cakes was as good as I have tasted. The Lobster Dogs were a great appetizer. You can’t go wrong.
Visiting from California. First time here and everything about this restaurant was great! If you go on the weekends be prepared to wait. However, so many cute shops to browse through while you are waiting.
Upstairs dining was quiet and cozy.
A little expensive, but the quality of the food was outstanding.
Taking mom for her first time in Nashville and wanted to go somewhere we could have a good meal and be able to talk to each other.
The signature cocktails were delicious and our server was very attentive. He told us stories of the history of this amazing building. The oldest freestanding building on the strip! Amazing stories and history on the third floor which we were able to tour thanks to a friendly and proud manager.
Chili was thick and mildly spicy.
Cobb salad was delicious as was their blue cheese dressing.
Grilled cheese was gooey as it should be.
French dip was perfect with hardly any fat, a hint of horseradish and a flavorful aujus for dipping.
It was a perfect welcome to Nashville!
We arrived on-time but our reserved table was not ready for another 10 minutes or so. Not a big deal. However, what was a deal was they put us directly next to main door that was a heavy foot traffic area and bad draft from outside which was about 40 degrees. Definitely the worst table in the house, I’m surprised they even use it. Didn’t realize how bad it was until after we ordered drinks. Waiter was new, but my wife and I were servers before and not a big deal to us.. we all start somewhere. The appetizer was good, the main entree was good as well... although I don’t really remember what I had (it’s been 4 days).
Food was OK. Much hype about the tater tots and they’re nice but nothing special. All around a nice place for family dinner. Cocktails were excellent!
Squash soup! Oh. My. You’ll do yourself an injustice to miss out on the soup. Great ambiance, superb service by Gary and delicious meal. Next time I’m in Nashville this will be a must.
DELISH burgers!!!! Definitely a must visit and the decor is SUPER cute.
Wonderful place, amazing food, and great service!!!
Amazing service and food! We had a celiacs person and they were so knowledgeable. Very special place.
Jimbalaya was horrific. Practically cold and the seafood tasted old. The fish tacos looked like scraps from a pan tossed into a shell. The caesar salad was wilted. We paid our bill and moved on, so as not to ruin our kids first experience in Nashville. Very disappointed.
Great place nice atmosphere jambalaya was delish!!
