Merchants is located in a historic building on the corner of 4th and Broadway in downtown Nashville that dates back to 1892. The building has been a myriad things, including a pharmacy, a wholesale drug company, and even a hotel. In 1988 it became Merchants restaurant. In 2010, the Goldberg brothers purchased the three-floor restaurant and gave it new life. The first floor bistro, with its black and white theme, features a lively atmosphere and casual cuisine. The second floor offers finer fare and a more intimate feel. The third floor is reserved for special events.

The hostess stand was overwhelmed. We had reservations and were still asked to wait. Our waiter, Angelo was great. Our wine and cocktails were good. The food was fine, but nothing special. The burger was very small for a 'gourmet' burger. The music was a bit loud. Some seasonal options would be a nice addition. The facilities need attention. We noticed elevator buttons that didn't illuminate, soiled chair covers and wobbly toilets. Overall, there are much better options in Nashville.

Food was very very mediocre for the price- bill was $140 and most (max n cheese, jambalaya, Cobb sald) was not eatable. I suspect this is a common theme… as our waiter asked if we wanted to box our leftovers and put on ledge outside for their regular homeless friends… which of course we did. If you want expensive but mediocre food in great spot… and an opportunity to help the local homeless… this is your pick

Food was very good. Had a delicious Caesar salad and shrimp and grits. My companion had fried chicken. Noise level was too much for us. The piped in music was extremely loud so conversation was difficult.

The appetizers and dessert were fabulous but my entree was not good i got the buttermilk chicken and it was soggy being served over the mash potatoes and collards and the gravy on top was unexpected and was too peppery. My son had the double cheeseburger and like it.

Always amazing food and service. Does get pretty loud so you’ll be yell talking. Staff is great and really works table, ambiance is pretty cool and right in the heart of things on Broadway. Downstairs is a nice bar type atmosphere while upstairs gives you a nicer steakhouse feel. Definitely recommend dinning.

My girlfriend and I first experienced Merchants 4 months ago when we visited Nashville. With it behind downtown and close to the action, we kind of stumbled on it because we were looking for a restaurant that offered gluten free options. The atmosphere was excellent, the service was great and food was amazing!!! We ended up eating there twice during the visit. Fast Forward a few months and we decided to visit Nashville once again and celebrate New Year’s in Nashville. Of course we needed to add Merchants as a definite stop. We stopped in for lunch and once again did not disappoint. On New Year’s Eve, we had lunch and ran into a familiar face in MICHELLE (she had served us months ago). Her pleasant personality and amazing food made lunch wonderful and it was because of her that we cancelled a reservation at another restaurant and give UPSTAIRS Merchants a try. During that lunch, the GM (Jimmy) came along to see how things were going and we discussed our pleasant experience with Merchants and said how thankful we were that gluten free options were readily available. We jokingly discussed how awesome it would be if the crab cakes were gluten free. We finished lunch and we’re very much looking forward to dinner upstairs the following day. We arrive upstairs and the atmosphere upstairs is amazing. We were welcomed by our server Cassidy and once again were thrilled with her service. After placing our order, she surprised us with GLUTEN FREE Crab cakes!!! Amazingly, after our discussion the day before, Jimmy made it happen and we were absolutely blown away by this because we certainly did not expect that. That was an amazing start to another wonderful experience at Merchants. I apologize for the lengthy review, but with so many amazing experiences at Merchants, I wanted to ensure that I captured it all. If given the option, I would rank Merchants 6 ⭐️’s out of 5!!!

We went for our NYE dinner. I ordered the ribeye steak as my entree and it was average. It was tough more like a sirloin. It wasn’t worth $60. My ordered the salmon and she said it was good. The ambiance was nice and it’s a great location if you want to eat near the bar scene.

We were on the first level for NYE so it was expected to be high energy and loud. Our server was great! My husband had the ribeye which was not as enticing as my prime rib. The ribeye didn’t have as much seasoning and it was thin. The collard greens were PHENOMENAL! We also had spinach and artichoke dip as an appetizer which was ok. Overall this was a cool place that I’ll try again and will probably try the 2nd level next time

Great little gem for a fast but good meal. We had a table right by the window. Great people watching and the waitstaff is amazing! Highly recommend the tomato soup and grilled cheese. The prices are fair the food is great and the bar is super cute.

Fantastic! Definitely will return! Enjoyed Steaks, 50/50 potatoes, creamed corn, crab cakes and crème brûlée. Our sever Brendan was great as well. Comfortable seating, right on broadway. Service moved quickly but we weren’t rushed.

Food was really good, except the French onion soup, which was thin and not flavored well. Shrimp cocktail was great, so was the prime rib. Drinks were perfectly made. We had mules and old fashions. Service was subpar, it was obvious the server was only doing this job until he made it in the music industry. Music level was good. Atmosphere very good too. Overall we enjoyed our meal and the experience. We will probably not go back, but it was a good place to eat.
