Merchants is located in a historic building on the corner of 4th and Broadway in downtown Nashville that dates back to 1892. The building has been a myriad things, including a pharmacy, a wholesale drug company, and even a hotel. In 1988 it became Merchants restaurant. In 2010, the Goldberg brothers purchased the three-floor restaurant and gave it new life. The first floor bistro, with its black and white theme, features a lively atmosphere and casual cuisine. The second floor offers finer fare and a more intimate feel. The third floor is reserved for special events.

We returned to Merchants to savor the atmosphere before the Preds game.
This is a very high priced restaurant upstairs with limited menu items. We knew the prices going in, but expected higher quality considering price. $56 steak which was about 50% fat. Salmon was not cooked - sent back and still not good. Note: two people ordered Salmon, one of them was okay. The one we had them redo did not come back to the table until well after everyone was done with their meal. The general manager, or whoever it was walking around restaurant was personable, but in general was not the experience we were hoping/expecting.
Great evening spent with friends over a wonderful meal and drinks. The staff were very accommodating and attentive. We had a wonderful experience. The gnocchi was amazing as was the dessert. Great place to enjoy dinner while being entertained watching the excitement outside.
Wonderful food & even better service! Even on noisy Broadway, it feels intimate & relaxing while dining.
Pork chop was a tad under cooked. However, the rest of the meal was very good.
Long wait for table even with a reservation. Decided to give up reservation and eat at bar. Salmon was delicious. Inefficient process when 4 hostesses waiting around and no one can be seated.
Very business and a little late getting to our table. But everything wA just fine. Would do again
We enjoyed it snd the history of the building made it better.but I expected more prices.the seats were uncomfortably music was too noisy so everyone seemed to shout to have to hear each other.service was good food was ok.
Another great dinner at Merchant's! Staff was awesome, menu is perfect - food is delicious. I loved the entire night. I Strongly Recommend the Onion Rings to start (trust me, not your typical onion ring!), sides Mac/Cheese and Brussel Sprouts - WOW
Definitely worth the price and experience! Location is perfect
The food was very good and I would definitely recommend on that basis; we ate on the second floor in the steakhouse. However, the drinks were pricey and there was a large party seated near us that was very, very loud. We'd hoped for a quiet dinner after a busy wedding weekend for my daughter, but that's not what we got.
Waited 15 minutes before flagging down, what appeared to be a manager, for a $7 Stella. I guess they were short handed.
Our waitress came by in the meantime and asked if we were ready to order. We said that we were not given menus.
She said we "had to scan the QR code here under this plate". We didn't pay much attention since it said "online orders". Prime was good. Mashed potatoes were cold.
Everyone we can into contact with was very friendly snd welcoming. The restaurant provided a quiet escape from the craziness outside snd great food!
Waitress had dirty nails with chipped nail polish- unappetizing and unappealing when being served our food. Tator tots looked and tasted like they were straight out of the ore ida bag. Terribly disappointed in this place which had great ratings.
Outstanding Restaurant. Any time I am in Nashville we have dinner on the second floor. Wonderful food ,service and ambiance.
Incredible food and service. I recommend the 2nd floor dinner service. The 50/50 potatoes will change your life.
Beautiful restaurant with lots of character. Lots of menu options to satisfy everyone in our group. The bistro downstairs was the perfect option for us.
Fantastic restaurant in a fantastic Broadway centric location! All the food was phenomenal! 2nd floor is exquisite for around 100
I was really looking forward to eating here after reading other reviews as well as the history of the restaurant and the building...but I have to say I was disappointed. We had an 8 pm reservations and were led to our table almost immediately. We were seated beside the kitchen, so right away points for ambiance were deducted. The room was brightly lit and the table closest to us was very loud - to the point it distracted from our enjoyment of the evening. Our server was very sweet and efficient - food and drinks were served promptly. The food was just ok. It wasn't bad, but it wasn't outstanding. The prices aren't bad, so I didn't feel like it was a bad value...it's just that when I eat out, I hope (and somewhat expect) to have a meal that is better than the ones we cook at home. So--sorry, but I can't recommend it.
Nice change of meals on Broadway. Sat upstairs on second floor. It was cozy, romantic, much quieter and small but good menu. If you’re tired of eating bar food and are looking for a a nice sit down meal this is definitely the place.
Overall everything was near perfect, including the people watching from my table at the corner of 4th and Broadway. My only complaint, which made my visit mildly unpleasant was my server rushing me. First it was for the app, then it was for my main, then my check. The server did a great job of serving, but asking every 3 or 4 minutes if, when I wanted to order was annoying. After a long few days in Nashville I just wanted to chill and enjoy. That did not happen!
We sat in the bistro downstairs. It was ok.
The server we had was not great. Food and atmosphere was good. I would not come here for dinner due to price but lunch price was average.
Great food and location is perfect! Everything was perfect for a girls night dinner!
Great option for dining in the heart of all the action. We ate in upstairs dining area. Had a great server, comfy chairs, food was delicious. We would go back!
I live here and had never been! It was excellent, and basically the only plane to eat on Broadway!
Great all around
Place is nice, we liked the table and setting. Waitress was excellent, only reason didn't rate lower. There is a relatively limited menu and when we went to order, they were out if Prime Rib and RibEye steaks. I can maybe understand the prime rib but there's no excuse to run out of a steak. Two, if the six or seven main meat items. Sorry, not acceptable in a town with so many restaurant choices
Everyone at the hostess stand was cordial and professional. Jimmy our server was on top of it and got our drinks and order out quickly.
The food was great and ambiance was fun. We enjoyed the background music too. Great location as we were able to walk down Broadway after dinner. Thank you for a nice experience!
Fun place with great food and service in the middle of the great Nashville Broadway bar scene.
Just what we were looking for in Naahville, not a burger and not fussy dining...it was just right!
Was very happy with menu selections and atmosphere.
Great food, even better service. Don't miss the chicken fried chicken or the deviled eggs. Make a reservation so you don't have to wait. Only complaint is that the cocktail prices were on the high side.
The service was really good, our server (Mario) was friendly. The food was just ok overall
The service here was great! Very kind, knowledgeable servers. The atmosphere was so nice and it was nice to dine somewhere clean and not as rowdy as other places on Broadway. We all enjoyed our entrees and the appetizers of fried green tomatoes and the pimento cheese dip were big hits!
We are both air line employees who try different restaurants everywhere we travel to. This is the only restaurant out of my 9 years of flying that I will come back to immediately. Our waitress was amazing and the manager on duty was so friendly. I will be back next week to eat more of the chicken friend chicken and chess pie. Thank you for a great experience!
Awesome peach mojito and chili. Such a quaint vibe and bar scene. Great ingredients and fresh quality.
I would recommend, local staple restaurant on lower Broadway.
Went to Merchants and sat upstairs with 5 friends. We all ordered filets and none were prepared as requested. The service was great but both the food and drinks were mediocre at best. I did enjoy the a la carte crab cake but the price was a little high, $17 for one crab cake for a single individual is a little steep for this caliber of restaurant.
Great waitress! Go Blue!
