Atmosphere and good food comes in spades here at Braintree’s Merchant Spice Indian Restaurant, situated on the town’s Fairfield Road. Though food is traditional, Merchant Spice’s interior couldn’t be more contemporary, a white and scarlet colour scheme light and bright, with light ash flooring, blue neon statement lighting, large fish tanks and colourful modern art works. It’s a superb setting for relaxed dining with friends, family or indeed with business associates, providing not only great food and friendly, unobtrusive service but, often, fantastic entertainment from live musicians including tributes to chart topping acts, both bang up to date and classic. Turned up at the time we booked the table only to find out the restaurant wasn’t open and they had no booking for us was told to go away and come back in an hour! The slowest service we’ve ever experienced the previous management was so much more organised. Never again!

Me and my friends had a great experience at the merchant spice. It was easy to book on open table and this was the first time I'd ever used this service. The food was great, all of us had commented how tasty it was and I was so overwhelmed with choice I told the waiter to surprise me. He asked roughly what I like and his choice was perfect. I can't wait to go back their.

Great service. we really liked the table, card system, that allowed us to turn when ready to order and when we had finished eating. This meant we were not pressured or pestered at any time. Very attentive staff when we needed. More restaurants should adopt a similar system. Really good food possibly the best special biriani I have ever had. We will be back.

Have been visiting Merchant Spice for year's and it doesn't disappoint. Staff are very friendly and helpful and even got a song! On this particular visit the restaurant was quiet but we still had a nice time celebrating my birthday.
