Jean-Georges brings a chic vibe to Soho at Mercer Kitchen, with a bright, airy café upstairs and a spacious restaurant on the lower level. The ambiance of the restaurant is timelessly stylish, and sexy, with exposed brick walls. The American Provencal menu features fresh and seasonal ingredients.View Private Dining Details

This dark, energetic venue ebbs and flows between warm and welcoming and just too obtuse on the service. We had to ask more than once for a round of drinks. It’s so dark that camera flashlights were seen around the room - including the neighboring table that ignorantly shown it right into my eyes. A SoHo staple that’s perfect for 2 or a cuddly date but would not go out of my way for pizza and fish & chips on the menu.
Best Turkey burger. Loved it.
I was meeting a girlfriend there for dinner after work. The entrance layout is confusing. There’s a bar and dining upstairs but you have to go downstairs to see the host. By the time I got downstairs and spoke with someone, I didn’t feel like going back upstairs to have a cocktail in the 5 mins my friend said it’s going to take her to arrive. So I opted to be seated. In the 10 mins it actually took for my friend to arrive, no one approached to offer me a drink (which I could really have used after a long day and week of work). Otherwise, food was great. Service could definitely be better- more personal.
It was okay. They had an NYU event/dinner so I’m not sure if this is why it was so loud. We had an 845 reservation and got the early but still didn’t get sat until 855/9. Service was good but my burger was cold. We sent it back and the manager came over and got us a round of drinks which was great. Pricey menu for what it is!
Food was lovely and service was very nice .
Reallly wanted to love this hip, trendy soho hub. However, even with our reservations for four it was very appearant that they were way overbooked, under staffed .
Our waiter was pleasant but swamped and time in between ordering and drinks, apps, dinner took a long long time. The waiter stated the kitchen was behind. The food was warm, but nothing out of the ordinary or special, smidge over priced for what you got my spouse thought . My 18.00 beet salad was nice but served in a cereal bowl serving dish :/. It is the holidays so expect to wait but I would only go back for maybe happy hr. And a nibble and instead go to Gemma’s and enjoy great Italian in a beautiful ambiance setting where noise level isn’t so stifling.
Not happy with the food at all. My dish was full of grease. No be checked on us during our meal at all. My daughters porkchop had more fat than meat. And when we were finished eating it took a very long time for someone to come over to c if we wanted dessert.
Great best burgers!!
When we arrived for our 5:30 reservation they told us we had to be out by 7pm. It would have been fine if there were just two of us but we were a large party and were celebrating the holidays together. It put a rushed atmosphere over the entire evening, the waiters were rushing us to order and started cleaning up while people were still finishing their meals. Don’t take a reservation in advance if you can’t fully accommodate the party.
Too loud !
Service was bad (inattentive waiter)
Food portion small
Prices were too high
We’ve been to this restaurant before & had positive experiences ... based on this trip we won’t be going back
Food was good, server was nice but quite slow. The icing on the cake was the belligerent girl 3 tables down who got more drunk by the minute and went on a screaming and swearing tirade. You know it’s bad when other tables near her were asking to move. Not a knock on the restaurant per se, just kind of put a damper on the mood overall.
Excellent food and service. Would definitely return
Great ambiance and lovely holiday decor!
Service was slower than usual and not very attentive even though it was 11pm on Sunday and the room was half empty. Waited for at least 30 minutes to get the main after the appetizers and plates weren't cleared. Gave us a better table with no issues though, so that's always appreciated.
Voll, relativ laut, Ambiente super, Essen gut
Mercer Kitchen is my go to for special occasions or when friends/family visit NY. The food and cocktails were amazing as usual. Everyone can always find something that appeals and is delicious. The wine list needs work - there are some good wines but not a ton of options for wine enthusiasts. Was also disappointed by the service this time. Normally don’t have this issue but this time around our waiter had zero personality or sense of humor and could not have seemed less interested in being there. Will return because I love the food and ambiance but some aspects could be better.
When we arrived I asked to expand the reservation from 2 to 3. The host made such a fuss. The place was empty. Plenty of tables available. They wanted to stick us at a tiny table under the stairs by the coat check. He was very condescending to one of the woman in my party. I guess since we weren’t 30 something “downtowners” he was less than interested in making us happy. Food and service excellent but his attitude soured the evening for all of us.
I WONT go back.
Great ambiance, but food was very oily .
Food was delicious as always, service was poor and weird. Had to ask for things several people several times before getting drinks, salt, pepper, etc. Good food but annoying bad service.
I am pastry chef of a fine dining restaurant who has worked in the city for 14 years. As such I normally do not post reviews of restaurants because I understand the stresses of the kitchen and service staff; I understand proper timing in a kitchen; when I go out, I am trying to relax and leave all that analysis that I do on a daily business at the front door.
This past Saturday, I was dining with a group of college friends that had not seen each other in years. I wanted everyone to enjoy a well executed meal in a sexy environment, so Jean-George’s Mercer Kitchen was a quick choice. Honestly, the meal was great. Everyone enjoyed themselves and the food and cocktails were great. Even my salmon, which was close to well done (ordered medium-rare) was flavorful.
So why did I give 1 star overall? At the very end of our meal, the Maitre d’ asked us to leave so they could seat a new table in a very off-putting and almost demeaning manor as if we were a table of children. The way he handled HIS problem, was unacceptable, and it resulted in a tainted memory of our dining experience.
Wait staff was inattentive. They initially placed us at a table next to the bussing station. I politely asked for another table and they seated 4 other couples, including walkins, before us. We had a reservation
Mercer Kitchen is a fantastic location and lovely hip atmosphere however we were disappointed by the meager potions - our Eggs Benedict was accompanied by roasted potatoes but there were only an small spoonful on each plate - we were not expecting copious amounts but we left the restaurant feeling hungry!! It’s quite shortsighted for the management and kitchen staff to short the plates in this way. Potatoes don’t cost a lot - there is an economy of scale built in if you were to offer more. Your clientele are smart, educated people and will surely find another establishment if this does not change. I will give Mercer Kitchen one more try but if the meal is he same, I will take my custom elsewhere.
I would however like to add that he wait staff were friendly and attentive.
Food was good. Wine amazing. Service great. And the ambience was fantastic.
Mercer was recommended by daughter's friend as fabulous restaurant and it did not disappoint. We sat at the bar that was flanked by two enormous vases of bittersweet. My Cosmo was perfect; not too sweet. The arugala salad with nuts and a vinagrette was followed by seared scallops on a bed of some vegetable (fennel)? Awesome!
I was glad we had a 7pm reservation because by 8:15 it was full with people waiting and we had at least 25 years on the next oldest customer. (I'm 65). That was a strange feeling.
Delicious food! Also quite generous portions (especially for Soho). Our table was right next to the server station so we frequently felt a bit squished by the various people stopping there. Service was very friendly but lagged a bit. Overall, a lovely meal!
Mercer Kitchen never disappoints! The atmosphere is wonderful, the service always spot on and food/drinks are excellent!
Service was terrible. Food was great!! Manager was ineffectual. Waiter was an amatuer. In these situations, things go wrong but it’s all about “recovery” by management. 6 People, drinks, wine, dinner, dessert and mgr chose to comp 3 cups of coffee. Seriously?? Told her not to bother!!
In spite of it all, Love this restaurant and food is great.
Ordered lobster, but it was two(!) mouthfulls with lobster meat, that’s it! Should have been half the price! Nice location tho, and the little food I has was very good!
This is the best place for a comfy romantic meal ;)
Neglectful service. Out of main entree item on menu on a Thursday night. Alternative entrees mediocre for price point. My salad was overdressed.
Had a 8:30 reservation but we were not seated till 9:30 and didn’t eat till almost 10:30. Not fun.
The fish was to small for the price
Took my mother for her birthday. Staff was friendly and on-point. Food was delicious, and the ambience was great. Definitely a go-to for dinner & drinks.
The food is usual, nothing special. Plates and food presentation simple, nothing to write about. We had a super good waiter so that made a difference. The seats are horrible, old and saggy. It is not a pleasant place as it is in the cellar and there is no natural light. Just very ordinary. Too pricey for what it offers.
Was very good. I didn’t like the burrata. But it’s ok.
The service seemed to be in a hurry to serve us, to the point of bringing the check before we even asked for it! My potatoes were undercooked, the burrata had figs with an excessive acid vinegar taste and my daughters calamares were not tasty at all. A pity !
have been there many times in past 10 years as visitor from Europe
This time; service: very straight, not really hospitality
Price much higher than I recall
Too expensive for what you get.
Mercer Kitchen was disappointing beyond anyone’s expectations. I reserved with Open Table a place for two at 8.30 but all slots were open implying the restaurant was not booked. Indeed once we arrived, the restaurant had tons of available tables. We were joined by a friend and I requested we get a table for 3 but initially the hostess insisted to squeeze us in a small round table by the bar despite the open seats. She said the restaurant was booked so I suggested to make a new reservation on OpenTable and then, miraculously, there was a normal table for us. The service was not bad but the food was terrible. I ordered a tuna roll that had a funny smell to it and the replacement was the same. My friend’s fish was blunt.
Mercer kitchen has always been my default restaurant for our of town guests, good contemporary style food with a lively ambiance. I will have to find a new spot.
