About Mercer Kitchen

Located at the Mercer Hotel, Mercer Kitchen brings a chic, sophisticated vibe to the heart of SoHo. When Mercer Kitchen opened in 1998, it immediately became a destination for New Yorkers, celebrities, and tourists. Situated in the basement of a historic building constructed in the 1800s, the… restaurant was designed by Christian Liaigre as a combination of industrial and classic modernism. Chef Jean-Georges’ American menu features market-driven, seasonal ingredients prepared in a simple yet elegant style, with favorites like the Tuna Spring Roll, Steamed Shrimp Salad, wood-fired pizzas, and classic Warm Valrhona Chocolate Cake. There is an open kitchen, where guests can sit back and watch the show.

A little disappointed by the size of some of the portions (for example I ordered a $10 side of brussel sprouts that came with FOUR brussel sprouts) - when i complained to the waiter he simply laughed it off and didnt do anything about it

Telephoned to ask about arriving at 5pm because of an event at Scholastics Theatre around
the corner. Very awkward arrival because we weren't "allowed" at our table until 5:30 even
though we were anxious to order drinks and keep the evening moving along. We understood
the menu changed at 5:30, but most everything is on both menus and everyone seemed most
inflexible.
We decided to return after the event around 10pm for drinks and other food, but again had
a rather awkward and unfriendly arrival. The Café was supposedly closing and couldn't serve
us, the lobby lounge was reserved for hotel guests (although nearly empty) and we were
directed to return downstairs where we had dinner earlier. Despite being nearly empty
as well, we were not allowed a table and referred to sit at the bar. We really wanted to talk
since we were a group of friends who aren't together often, so we didn't want to be in a long
line of stools at the bar. After fifteen minutes or so, we were given a table were we each had
several drinks and late supper.
The point is that both of our arrivals had 15 to 30 minutes of awkward standing around listening
to the rules instead of being guest friendly. The food was good, the pricing is high and the
attitude was just not worth it.

Bad Iced tea. And they charged for refills. And gave no indication they were going to charge for refills. $24 for three people to drink old, bad iced tea. Took a solid two star meal and placed it in the one star camp for me.

Went here for our anniversary. Table was in the corner which was fine, but the table next to us was so loud we could not have a conversation. I have been here a bunch of times, but this time was abnormally loud. Our food took forever and our server was really nice, but we had to wait over an hour with nothing to eat. My food was just okay, and my husband's was good. our starter was great. I left hungry since I didn't eat my meal and we had been there for over 2 hours. :(

Food was good however service was not. They acted like we were putting them out. Also they were out of common items such as Cabernet and other drinks which was crazy considering this was a popular restaurant in New York. We waited 40 minutes before they would serve us dinner, which was really disappointing.

When we were upstairs waiting for a uber after dinner because it was so cold outside- 2 women and 2 young kids - we were asked to leave because it was the hotel area. After staying in the Four Seasons and SoHo Grand -REALLY? This is completely unacceptable. Last time we will visit the Mercer Kitchen.

I am a customer of The Kitchen, once I live next door. This time, though, we were 12 people, reservation made and had to wait for quite a while. "our" table was not free, because after paying the check, the customers wouldn't leave and it took a while for the waitress to ask them to leave.

We finally secured a Saturday evening reservation and took a visiting friend to Mercer Kitchen. The food was top quality! The noise level was absurdly loud and the service was poor/fair. We waited almost 25 minutes between appetizer and main course. At each course, half the table got food and the other half got theirs 5 plus minutes later. Thankfully we asked for a check when ordering dessert or it would have added to the waiting. With so many quality restaurants in Manhattan, Mercer Kitchen should match its service to its food quality. Glad to have tried it but will try or return elsewhere for future special dinners. At this price point, everything should be wonderful!

The food was delicious. The service was terrible. Our waiter must have had too many tables because every time he walked by he ignored us. It's a fun scene to people watch. We even saw a big tv celebrity.

Waited too long for our reserved table. Food ok but not great. Entree under cooked after specifically stating my concern regarding under cook meat. Compensated with dessert which was a good gesture. Sorry to say overall experience was not what was expediting for the overall cost of the meal.

Service was unbelievable. Took 3 friends for birthdays and they did an amazing job. The food for the price was nothing special. We had a Brussels sprouts and salmon and it had zero taste. Don't order unless you want hospital meal. Friends had a seafood platter and it was tiny. It should be on the starter part f menu. The drinks, wine, ambience is why we not so disappointed. Will go again but only for appetizer.

I took a date here. I would say the food is excellent. The service was great a times and lacking at other times. We kept asking for our water glasses to be refilled, same with the iced tea that took too long to be replaced. We looked to the waiter for some guidance as to what we should order and he basically said that everything is good. I’m sure there are a few stand outs and the advice would have been appreciated. Overall a great place and we would go back. The bill was $200 without alcohol.

Honestly- I was really excited bc I had heard that this place was amazing, but our food came out completely cold, we had to ask for things several times, and it just wasn't at all the experience I was expecting for such a nice place. I wasn't leaving like OMG I HATE THIS PLACE but I definitely wouldn't go back.

It saddens me to write this review, for many reasons. Mercer Kitchen has always been.a wonderful go-to place for my wife and me when we lived in Soho. After moving to Brooklyn a year ago, we continued to stop in for drinks and an occasional brunch with friends and out-of-town family members. When we got hitched in City Hall on Valentine’s Day this year, this is where we came for lunch with our lovely witnesses.

Here’s where the story gets sad...

Last week, I made a reservation for 3 to have dinner with a close friend and my wife. When asked if this was a special occasion, I mentioned that we were celebrating my wife’s birthday. We met our friend at the lobby of the hotel, which I eventually was told was for hotel guests only, but the host was happy to set us up at a table for three in that lobby. I made sure to let the downstairs hostess know that we were not dinning in the main dining room but wanted her to clear it with management that we were being seated in the lobby. 2 mins later, (and two cocktails at the lobby lounge) another host came to our lounge area to inform us that we had to move to the main dining room. Although I appreciate the policy, I also must mention that this was a Monday and the lobby was not full. In fact, on our way out after dinner, the table we were promised wasn’t even used. Again, we did not ask... we were offered the upstairs table. Lastly, there was special attention given to our table or my wife for her birthday (keep in mind, I didn’t voluntarily offer this info, I was asked when I made the reservation and when we arrived. ) Since nothing special happened, I’m not sure why I was asked.

I usually don’t write lengthily reviews... (as you can tell... I’m bad at it) it’s just that this experience left us a bit deflated... We spent most of the time after being seated in the main dining area looking to book another reservation before our server arrived (she was great, by the way... so not a total bummer)

Cheers.
