About Mercer Kitchen
Located at the Mercer Hotel, Mercer Kitchen brings a chic, sophisticated vibe to the heart of SoHo. When Mercer Kitchen opened in 1998, it immediately became a destination for New Yorkers, celebrities, and tourists. Situated in the basement of a historic building constructed in the 1800s, the… restaurant was designed by Christian Liaigre as a combination of industrial and classic modernism. Chef Jean-Georges’ American menu features market-driven, seasonal ingredients prepared in a simple yet elegant style, with favorites like the Tuna Spring Roll, Steamed Shrimp Salad, wood-fired pizzas, and classic Warm Valrhona Chocolate Cake. There is an open kitchen, where guests can sit back and watch the show.

Jean-Georges brings a chic vibe to Soho at Mercer Kitchen, with a bright, airy café upstairs and a spacious restaurant on the lower level. The ambiance of the restaurant is timelessly stylish, and sexy, with exposed brick walls. The American Provencal menu features fresh and seasonal ingredients.
Mercer Kitchen Ratings and Reviews
We arrived for a 6:15 reservation and were made to wait "over there" by a rather disinterested reception team. The meal was good although the value was lackluster given the cramped and awkward table placement, as well as, an impression of indifference to our party. We anticipated a special experience and unfortunately, the food was just not enough to deliver.
Seating for three was a bit too tight, as three of us were seated at a small round fit for two. Atmosphere was quite nice overall. Lighting was just right. Food was presented well, was delicious and served hot. We enjoyed the prosciutto pizza, roasted chicken and the seared scallops. Our server was knowledgeable, friendly and made some nice recommendations.
I love this place for business lunches. Delightful staff, nice aesthetic/ambiance, and the food is excellent. I don't know if this was the fault of the kitchen or the waiter, but during my last visit they forgot one of the sides and then later, the madeleines for dessert. He brought the side dish after we had finished lunch and the madeleines after the cappuccinos were done...barely apologized. It most cases, I would imagine some part of that being removed from the bill, but that wasn't proposed by our waiter. When you want the lunch to be about business, you don't want to have be chasing down the waiter. It won't keep me from going back, but it did make me a little less likely to make it my first choice.
Very disappointed in the meal we had. Used to eat here all the time (probably haven’t been in 5 years since we left NYC) but won’t ever go back. Portions were child size, wine was maybe a 4oz glass - at the most, service was inexperienced and inattentive. Such a shame. Was a favorite for a long time.
Bad inattentive service, had to repeatedly ask for our server who never checked on us. Wrong menu was given, the area around our table was leaking from rain and throughout the entire meal they were attempting to deal the situation which was distracting. Too many other great restaurants to give this one a 2nd chance.
Had a lovely experience dinning at Mercer Kitchen! Came a little early for our reservation but the hostess was able to sit us down right away. The menu had a lot of amazing dish options to choose from and the bellini’s we ordered were extremely delicious! The food tasted fresh and great just wish the portions were a little bigger for the price you’re paying. Otherwise service and atmosphere was great. Would definitely come back to try other things in the menu for the next get together with friends.
I've had perfectly good meals at the Mercer Kitchen in the past. The space is a little dark and funky but the ambience is nice, the service is fine, and the food can be quite good. But do not repeat my mistake and go there on New Year's Eve, unless you are prepared for a prix fixe menu of their normal food for $188 without wine, and for the stunning, deafening din of an unadvertised DJ. Our waiter was kind enough to move us up to the cafe on the lobby level, where the volume was at least 5 dB lower. Oh, you also get a silly hat and a noisemaker. But we didn't stay around till midnight to use them.
One of our favorites!! we have been here several times but each time the food is better. I think the waiters need more help. although they were extremely nice there were not enough. of them.We love the theme and the cozy lower floor dinning room. They had Russ and daughters salmon over avocado toast! and Russ and daughters with bagels! And we walked in without a reservation! it is an oasis in Soho especially on a cold day such as this last December 31st. would highly recommend it
We were a bit disappointed. Heard so many good things and was really looking forward to dining at the Mercer Kitchen. Service was terrible. Food was mediocre especially for the price. One plus was the atmosphere. Great interior design but it did not make up for the over-all experience. We won’t be returning unfortunately.
The room was super cold, so cold that almost everybody was wearing jacket!!
The food was ok but nothing special considering that u pay 30 to 40usd per dish...they dont know what a real milanesa is...almost no cheese, no tomato sauce, horrible salad...plus food with no salt, pepper or any other flavor!
Dont recomend at all
We were seated on the ground floor and it was freezing. The bus person informed us the heating system broke. Take in consideration the temperature outside was 11 degrees and felt like 2 degrees. We were seated beside the bus station which resulted in us requesting to move because the wait staff butts were at the same level with my boyfriend who is 6’0, elbow. The seats were too close for comfort. When we finally moved to another table it was worst because the cold air from the entrance door followed to our seating area. Then we had to wait an additional 15 mins and finally flagged down the lead wait staff and request our waitress. The food was sub par. The table next to us ordered a burger and French fries and that looked more Appetizing than our sea bass and pork chops. We choose not to stay for dessert. Overall the experience was horrible. I was miserable the entire time. We have spoken of going to a Jean George restaurant and we choose this because of the location closer to the broadway district. I was very disappointed. They comped our drinks but that did not make up for the horrible experience. This was our date night in the city and we were very disappointed. I will never return and I will never patron another Jean George restaurant. This was the worse restaurant experience. And for such a high acclaimed chef!!!! SHAMEFUL!!!!!’
As usual, personnel were very arrogant. Since we had a stroller with us (as mentioned on the reservation), they have tried to accommodate us at the table that is in front of the bathroom and behind the hostess desk - the WORST table in the restaurant. Honestly, we only keep coming for the food. Service is always a disaster, when will they learn?
Te meal was perfect, unfortunately the waiter informed us of a problem on the heating system and we had the bad experience to eat our meal freezing so we couldn’t enjoy it completely! The food was great and the service too! I will go again in the future hoping the heating system will be working.
