Great server - Jenna. Food was delicious, did not come too quickly, nice timing between drinks, apps and entrees.
Food is great. Very loud and servers all seemed over worked. Very rushed.
Great menu, well-prepared. Always a good experience.
Very good food
Inside is loud
Can be difficult to talk
The bread was amazing. The waiter was amazing. Ambiance was great. The drinks were pretty good. And the food was good, if a little overpriced. Overall -- great place for dinner and drinks.
Service was phenomenal and food was outstanding.
We enjoyed the food, the service and hospitality. This is one of West Chester's finest restaurants.
I made reservations, asked for a table of 5. Was asked if it was a special occasion and I answered yes it was a birthday. No one mentioned anything about that. We were given a table by the kitchen and it was very warm. There was plenty of empty tables and I asked the girl for a different table and she said could not do that. We've dined there plenty of times and love the food.
Very good food and very good service provided by Kevin!
Thank you for the beautiful night!
Had a great dinner there The staff was good Good service food was too. It was a bday dinner
It was a little warm in there for the most part E everything was great
Our server was simply fantastic. Thank you, Tom! :-)
Truly my favorite go to in West Chester. Blood orange cosmo is fabulous; Grilled Calamari is always perfect! So many good entrees!
Food was excellent although the cheese plate was sub par. Noise level inside was so high it was hard to conduct a conversation. Friendly and attentive service.
Delicious food, great ambiance
The service was excellent, which of course is basically luck of the draw depending on your server, we got a good one so no issues.
The food is just so generally mediocre unfortunately, I love the boro of West Chester, so I try to be a booster but alas.
The cheese & charcuterie tray was uninspired and mundane and certainly not worth $25.
The sausages in sausage and broccoli rabe starter were overcooked and undersized, reminiscent of Jimmy Deans, any grocery store butcher section sells better looking and tasting Italian sausages, simply pathetic.
The arancini were as good as always though a bit overcooked and hard, I understand they are deep fried but not for that long.
The Caesar salad was very good.
The grilled calamari was cold and the messy pile of cannaloni beans that accompanied were searing hot out of the microwave, subpar at best.
As I said I love the boro and want good things for it, Mercato is a nice looking restaurant with a great vibe and consistently good service, the staff are all very pleasant and eager to do a good job, but the quality of the food has definitely dropped off in recent years, I hope they can recover it.
Very nice. Sat outside. It was packed so our service was slow but it was not our waitresses fault and we could tell. They were just very busy. Our waitress was very sweet and did a good job. I would definitely go again but may be on a weekday.
The Veal was excellent.
Been meaning to stop here for dinner for a while and now that we did we’ll probably never return. With expanded outdoor dining in place along with a full house inside, plus take-out orders, the restaurant and staff were completely overwhelmed. The tiny kitchen could simply not keep up with the orders. As a result I feel the quality of food suffered. The restaurant came with a lot of positive reviews but we found our dishes simply lacking in any depth of flavor. Seemed more throw together in such a rush just so they could get the next order out. We sat for a while awaiting our main and because of our proximity to the tiny kitchen we could see the mayhem take place. Quantity seems to be a much higher priority here than quality.
For the gluten-free diner: While there is no separate GF menu, you can sub GF penne in their pasta dishes. The server can tell you what else is safe. However, my spouse did suffer the ill effects of gluten in her dish, so even though the pasta was certainly GF, something else was not, so gluten-free beware.
Additionally, for some reason, on a day when the temperatures were in the mid 90s, they kept the front door open so that the inside ended up being hotter than the outside. There’s nothing like sweating in an air conditioned restaurant. We kindly commented about closing the door, and it was... but only until the next staffer went out and it was propped open again. This practice may work on a normal day, but please think about it when the temp is that high. A bottle of red served to us was disgustingly warm and needed ice (shudder) just to be quaffable...
Perhaps a winter dining experience here may be a better option, without the expanded outdoor seating the kitchen may have a better chance to keep up and let some quality get back in.
It was busy and had good service at first. As dinner progressed didn’t get a check back fir a second drink. Ordered dessert and waiting a long time. Finally caught the waiters attention to cancel.
Not great service. Waitress must have had too many tables. Didn’t seem to have patience, was rushed, didn’t offer specials, and took our wine before done. Changed the experience dramatically from previous visits.
Unfortunately the service is slow at least that was my experience dining outside. Drinks and bread room at least 20 minutes to arrive and the server (Juliana) was not attentive at all. Perhaps servers are a bit rusty after covid …
Our server Tommy was very enthusiastic and friendly. We had a good time.
I ordered a cocktail and sent it back because it was pure alcohol and not enjoyable to drink. They replaced it with a an alternate drink at no extra charge but that drink was not mixed well either. I ordered the Chicken Caprese entree and the chicken was rubbery and hard to cut. The dish was overwhelmingly salty and looked like it had been sitting under a warmer for a long time. I only ate a few bites before giving up on it. The outdoor ambiance was great. The food was a total disappointment.
Jessica, We are sorry to hear that you had a less than stellar experience with us. We appreciate your comments and are working to put out consistently good food and cocktails. We have taken your notes into consideration and hope you will give us a chance in the future to wow you.
Loved it!!! Alexandria was awesome!
Food was awesome but service was exceptional! Our server Kennedy was awesome. Always two steps ahead of her customers. Thanks for a great Anniversary celebration.
Service was extremely slow. We waited over 20 mins for silverware to eat our meals with. No one came to check on us. Went to the manager twice, water requested and never received until we complained. Manager was very nice and willing to take care the situation.
Service only received 3 stars mainly due to what seemed to be a staffing shortage, IMO. Other, the place checked all the boxes of a high quality casual restaurant.
This will be definitely be on my rotation in WC. Can’t wait to go back.
Always pretty nice there, though quite noisy. I had the grouper which was good though the bed of rice underneath it was tasteless.
Great night out post Covid. Everything was perfect
Excellent food. The halibut special was amazing!
The meatballs and pizza were amazing. The lobster ravioli wasn't good at all. The lobster was very dry. But I will totally be back for the pizza and Meatballs.
We had dinner with some friends outside in front of the restaurant and the food was delicious and the service was very good.
Consistently our West Chester favorite. Deliciously prepared food, great service, yummy cocktails, perfect location. And be sure to try the Kennett Mushroom Crostini!
Food was pretty good but also pretty typical and similar to many other restaurants in West Chester. Ambience is great, particularly this time of year with the outdoor seating option.
Service on the other hand was abysmal. We arrived at 6:30 and did not leave until around 845 sImply because we had to fight to get the food server’s attention. She seemed to have too many tables and would disappear for a half an hour at a time, presumably helping tables on the inside of the restaurant. When she did finally serve us she wasn’t particularly helpful or friendly. (It was just my daughter and I and we only ordered two courses.) I’m a pretty easy grader when it comes to service and had the server just apologized and explained that they were very busy, that would’ve been fine. But there was none of that, and we barely even got a smile out of her. We had to practically beg her to take our order for our entrées. When we asked to do that we got a look that was either annoyance or confusion, in any case, it was not a pleasant experience for us at all. Usually, with borderline service I’ll give a restaurant another chance. But, this experience was so bad and turned what was supposed to be a rare opportunity for my daughter and I to enjoy a meal out together, to a stressful uncomfortable nightmare. I waited tables in college a long time ago so I know what it takes to give good service. I also know it’s a hard job but if you are friendly and engaging with your customers it is pretty easy to make most customers happy. The fact that Mercato would hire someone like this and not train them appropriately or vent them appropriately is enough for me to be done with them . Definitely won’t be back.
Our waitress was very nice, but it took a long time for our food to come out and it was cold. We sent back to reheat but it didn’t taste good. Very disappointed we will not be back!
Our food took an hour and a half to come out without much (if any) communication from management
Birthday dinner - was in reservation but never acknowledged. We were seated and waited more than 10 minutes before the server acknowledged our table and that was only after we informed the hostess that no one had come to our table.
I have had great experiences until this dinner. Service was way off - slow, unresponsive, and curt. My fish and risotto were over cooked and bland. We have loved it here in the past so will go again - but it was a very different experience this time.
The food was very good, especially the beet and burrata salad. Our server was wonderful and the outside dining atmosphere was very nice.
Courtney was great as our server. Wonderful time with wife and family.
