Mercat a La Planxa Ratings and Reviews
Arrived for dinner early, 5:00 as we were attending Chicago Opera that evening and ordered COT special. First courses arrived promptly and were OK. 2nd course was a rubber gristle "steak" and a couple of dry meatballs that took over 45 to 60 minutes to arrive after three pleas to the floor staff for help. (Our waitress had disappeared) The cold tough "steak" that finally arrived was really a disappointment. We were given a couple of glasses of cava to settle us, bur the poor service and really bad main selection were beyond excuse. We've dined at Mercat before, enjoyed it and recommended it to friends. This visit was beyond bad!
Not as good as I remembered when I went 3 years ago. Menu is much more abbreviated than before, liquor program completely changed and new chef. Very empty on a Saturday night before VDay and I now understand why after eating there. Service was good but the restaurant has changed for the worse unfortunately.
Loved this place! Everything was delicious. Our server was very helpful with recommendations (food and wine). We enjoyed the bacon wrapped dates, the serrano ham croquets, the garlic shrimp, the Succretta (similar to the Pluma Iberia Bellota, a pork tenderloin steak with great flavors) ... and the Cannelloni filled with short rib, farm raised chicken, foie-gras, creamy truffle béchamel. We finished with an Olive Oil cake and Patron XO over ice. Oh so good.
Perfect pre-ballet dinner spot. Small plates for sharing, great views (if you can score a window), lovely staff. We are always asked before dinner if we have to finish by a certain time; then staff cares for timing and gets us on our way at the right moment. We never feel rushed, though!
Very disappointed with the value for the food provided. ??$14 for 3 microscopic pieces of grilled octopus and a few greasy potato slices? The salad was tasty, the service was extremely attentive and the setting is great.
This is my second time there and both times felt the meal was very mediocre...needs a lot of attention to get me back.
Simply Amazing ... have been here several times but the last experience was icing on the cake. Our server Doc and the manager simply made our experience that much better. We were lucky enough to stop here during restaurant week, great value for the experience.
Its higher end tapas with higher end prices, but totally worth the price because this place is amazing. The food is as good as the best restaurants I visited in Spain, and the service was top notch. Coupled with an amazing view-this makes for a real winner! Must have the patatas bravas!
Our second visit to Mercat a La Planxa and we enjoyed it as much if not more as last time.
A special way to dine and taste a variety of special unique, fresh dishes...all were delicious!
It is nice to order a few, test your hunger level and order more if you'd like.
I have discovered that it is nice to order one of the fresh, very tasty salads to add to the flavor of the other dishes.
Not one bad thing to say from host to server to assist staff.
Steps from the hotel we stay at and it can be as fast or leisurely as you would like to enjoy!!
The friend I was meeting had recommended this place, and I'm glad she did! The food was yummy - we met for brunch, and they had options for both breakfast-type food and more traditional (and savory) tapas. We also had the option of ordering any item a la carte, so you could get one pancake or piece of french toast alongside a breakfast meal, without having to order two complete meals. It was also quiet enough for us to have a lovely catch-up conversation without having to shout. The weather may have dissuaded many people from going out for breakfast - we met at 10am, which is normally a busy time. Definitely a new favorite place!
Fabulous! Hadn't been there in a long time, so didn't know the chef had changed, but every course was fabulous--we did the luxury wine paired courses - yumm!
Mateo, our waiter, was SO KNOWLEDGABLE, and courteous and proficient, as were all the other staff who kept appearing throughout our dining experience.
I mentioned sadness that the chocolate croquettes I had so fondly remembered were no longer on the menu, and they brought us complimentary chocolate bon bons as a substitute. (Quite nice! Still would like to see the croquettes back, though...)
The ham croquettes were maybe my favorite, but the bruschetta course was oh so good!!, the beef filet was perfectly prepared, and the seafood paella, the last, crowning course, was so good - but truth be told, most of it came home--was absolutely satiated, and very content!
Indeed, a very pricey evening, but was extremely pleased with the fabulously prepared food, wine pairings, and the kind of service you always hope for! Thank you for a great evening!
We had a 6:30 reservation on New Years Eve, and were called at 3pm to be informed that they were only offering a fixed menu that evening. Hardly time to make alternate plans. Our real concern was over the fast pace that they delivered each course, before we were even close they would set the next dish on the table along with the wine pairing. We felt rushed throughout the dinner. Surprisingly the restaurant was only have full when we left, not a real issue to provide a second seating for the evening. This is not the restaurant that I remember from 20010. For a $400 dinner, they need to pay far greater attention to the details.
Attentive service. Quiet, intimate setting. In love with the decor and ambience. After spending our summer vacation in Barcelona, we were so thrilled with the excellent and authentic food. Try the tapas - we had the pulpo, papas bravas, cured meats, scallops. The sangria is also a must. The staff went out of their way to make us feel special. Would come again next time in Chicago!
The restaurant was a perfect location for our post movie dinner. The food was fantastic and service was very fast. We tried many of the plates and everything was excellent. Great views with the floor to ceiling windows. Would highly recommend for a nice quiet dinner.
We appreciated the chef offering us a vegetarian tasting menu, which we expected to be on the smaller end, but were surprised instead to receive plate after plate of delicious vegetarian tapas. The vegetarian paella was divine! The mushrooms and potato dish was delicious! Samuel, our server, put in an extra effort to get us to "Hamilton" on time, which we deeply appreciated. His service was spot on! Even the host was extraordinarily friendly and remembered our coats without looking at the ticket. Thank you for a wonderful evening!
Everything was going so well until the serving of the Beef. The Beef was rare but extremely tough. We observed that the Chef has cut the steak with the grain and it was like eating a rubberized Beef Jerky. If the Beef portion had been Tender, we would have given a much higher rating. Its difficult to pay your prices and get such poor quality beef. After spending more than two weeks in Spain we expected more from the food you prepared.
